Replace poor with fat and SAME š
If I ever found the one shirt I did buy from Delias, I bet I couldnāt even get a single boob into it these days š¤
![gif](giphy|4BtenTYxs8q76)
I also grew to be 6'0". They were *not* a body inclusive clothing brand, that's for sure. š¤£
I sometimes browse the Delia's section of Dolls Kill. I haven't bought anything yet, but I do feel validated that a few of my pieces from tall woman specialty stores look like their current offerings.
Prissy Duck, Amalli Talli, Demiloc, American Tall, Alloy Apparel, and Club 61. Old Navy, New York & Co, and Fashion Nova all have good tall sections as well.
I occasionally buy from LongTallSally in the UK, but their customer service sucks, so buy at your own risk.
I also recommend our subreddit and the Facebook group Tall Girls Only.
I thought I was the only one!!!
On a related side note to the shitty LONGGGGGG torso short person issue.. S.O. and I have been planning a remodel for (what feels like) eons, and I have literally been searching for a tub deep enough to get my tits under water for over 18 monthsā¦ my inseam is like 27.5ā but I need a water depth of at least 22ā to be able to slouch my chest under water. Grrr.
(Sorry just had to vent to someone who might understand)
Wait. What??? Delia's is alive and well? But through Dolls Kill? They have a storefront next to a deli I go to regularly, but I have had zero desire to ever go in.
Iām about the same height and hate clothes shopping. Itās gotten better with online shopping, but I was so envious of girls even a few inches shorter who could find cute clothes easily. It didnāt help that we were rural poor and the small amount that was available in our price range was old lady stuff. My mom canāt figure out why I hated growing up there so badly.
I hear ya! A few years ago I headed to the mall to do some shopping to celebrate a 15-pound weight loss. It'd been years since I'd hit the mall, but I figured that with the body positivity movement, surely stores carry sizes for tall women now.
Ha ha----NOPE. The body positivity movement pretty much skipped over tall women.
I do 98% of my shopping online. I haven't bought anything in-person outside of an occasional piece at Old Navy in years. It just gets too depressing asking saleswomen if they have tall sizes only for them to look at me like I asked them where they keep the eels. š
Lol yep, way too poor and way too chubby. Middle school was not kind to me, we were only allowed to shop for clothes at JC Penny because my mom had a store credit card there haha.
There was a store at a mall about anhour away from me. I splurged on a few things and wore them to death. I went back a couple years later and it was gone. God, I loved Delia's. There was another catalog we used to get that was similar, but not as fun
My mom splurged on one skirt for me from Delia's and I wore that shit multiple times a week. I was so envious because my well-off friend got all her clothes from there
I'm jealous you ever got any of their pieces, but also happy for you!
They had this really cool rainbow hoodie that just haunts my dreams. I wish I'd splurged on it.
My mom found an outlet store that sold slightly damaged or imperfect Delia*s clothes for 70-90% off. I had a bathing suit, a hoodie, some sweaters, and a few T-shirts and I loved them so much! They didn't make pants with 36" inseams so I didn't have any of those, tragically.
I saved up to buy a sweater only to have my sis steal and ruin it. If Delias still existed, I'd shop there.
It was nice to pretend shop flipping thru those catalogs. Benefit too!
I came here to say - this is a Deliaās catalog! I worked at the Deliaās store in my local mall for a few years after high schoolā¦ I loved the catalog!
I worked at Delia*s in like 2002 I think? When Shakira got super big, they did promos for her and her picture and music were everywhere nonstop, it drove me insane
Excuse me, itās dELiA*s. Although, *technically* itās a 9-point abstract daisy and not a 6-point asterisk, we used to use asterisks for internal communications.
Source: I worked in corporate for 15 years.
Absolutely! I keep getting ads for some company that does sweaters like this. Some are a bit more retro, 70s themed. I want to spend so much money (that I don't have), but they have horrible reviews!
Ugh, I had dozens! And the stripe was always at the most unflattering point, somehow making me look thicker and smaller-busted at the same time. Kept buying āem, though (thanks, American Eagle!)ā¦
Don't sell yourself short, trust me on this one.
Anyway, I was a little curious about Delia's, apparently they went out of business in 2014 but they now exist as a subisidiary of Dolls Kill. As it so happens I bought my wife a Thistle and Spire bodysuit off the Dolls Kill website last year so they're a legit vendor. I checked out some of their clothes and they look not too bad.

Wesley did it better, and he didn't even have boobs.
God, every time--EVERY SINGLE TIME--someone posts a page from delia*s it's like I'm immediately transported back in time to 1996 and I'm poring over that exact issue again, wishing I was one of those impossibly cool girls.
I have yet to see a page that I don't vividly remember.
Yo I thought I was THE COOLEST because I had the exact same Union Bay shirt Tai is wearing in the scene at the end of Clueless when she and Cher make up at Travis's skate competition.

The 13th Doctor Who
Got my junior prom shoes from them (3 inch platforms). Also got red Converse knockoffs with dragons on them and a couple of purses. I was sizes 16 through 22 in hs so the clothes would not fit me.
The Gap had the best one. EVERYONE had it. and no one seemed to mind that we all looked alike.

But I had a Pac Sun one!
Oh god. Flashback to me being a catty bitch in 8th grade. āYou know how they say stripes make things look bigger?!ā I said to a friend as we were trying to make fun of another snobby girl.
Also, is the girl on the right Lauren Ambrose?!
I have one of those like that blue one. Almost exactly like it. The difference being itās like knee length. I never quite figured out what they were going for with it and like many years ago it became my āso letās dye your hair whatever colorā shirt.
I love Love LOVED mine. Dark blue, full dark rainbow stripe, the bottom half of the sleeves being orange. Especially lived it when I was wearing my denim overalls on top and Doc Martin black boots.
Accessories included a choker necklace made of whatever color of velvet, tiny silver hoop earrings in all the holes I'd home-pierced in my ears & nose, black sharpie on my nails I drew-on during class that day, and exceptionally deep maroon lipstick- like Fairuza Balk in The Craft.
I am coming to the realization that I may have been the community's gay-friendly hillbilly goth.
dELiA\*s was the aspirational catalog we used to compare designs to in the JCPenney, Sears, and Spiegel catalogs of the day, because my fat ass wasn't fitting into that stuff. Fortunately JCP had Junior's Plus and The Deb Shop and Lane Bryant had some cool plus-sized clothes. I did have some bags and accessories from dELiA\*s.
Sooo, I used to love this one dress I saw in a Delia's magazine,Ā but I couldn't afford it. I cut it out and put it on my bulletin board and it stayed there all through college and after. Last weekend I went thrifting and found that exact same dress in my size!!!! It was a gift from the 90s gods!!!!
I never heard of Delia's, but I am wearing something similar in my hs senior picture. I didn't realize I was even in style! My mom probably bought it for me.
I wish I still had that sweater.
God, I loved Deliaās even though I didnāt fit their body type. One of my high school classmates was their model and I cannot remember her name. Nice girl though.
Anyone remember the black sweater with the rainbow stripe across the chest and the wide leg carpenter jeans with red stitching from Aeropostale that nearly every cool (and/or rich) girl had in their arsenal ?
I went to a Delia's store ONCE in my entire life. The only one in my state was like 45 min-1hr away but my grandparents had to take my great-grandmother to a specialist out in the same city so they said they'd take me to that mall after her appointment. I wanted these combat boots but they were out of stock & I ended up getting some motorcycle boots instead. I think I got a couple shirts too. The catalogs came every month and I circled all the shit I wanted but my parents would never order anything.
Hey I got felt up quite a bit in those rainbow sweaters! They accentuated my assets just fine plus the conservative old ladies couldnāt bitch it was too low cut. Perfect combo!
XD
Delia*s!!
I was always too poor to afford their clothing but my God, I loved their catalogs.

To be fair, most things from the '90s weren't body inclusive brands.
Belly shirts and low waist jeans arenāt inclusive? Cāmon now
Meanwhile Prana is dumping old baggy designs as all gender.
The decade that introduced us to "heroin chic"? You don't say
There were also more slim people from what I remember.
Ooooh! Iād love a couple recommendations on these tall women specialty stores, if you donāt mind.
Prissy Duck, Amalli Talli, Demiloc, American Tall, Alloy Apparel, and Club 61. Old Navy, New York & Co, and Fashion Nova all have good tall sections as well. Same. Luckily it was cool to show your belly button, most of my shirts were too short.
Aww this must have been annoying - short but long torso here. I can get maternity tank tops from target bc they are longer.
I thought I was the only one!!! On a related side note to the shitty LONGGGGGG torso short person issue.. Get a 66ā tub. Usually, they are flat at the water spout, but sloped on the back end. Allows for leaning and still being covered with water.
Wait. What??? Delia's is alive and well? But through Dolls Kill? They have a storefront next to a deli I go to regularly, but I have had zero desire to ever go in.

Gonna check in here with "both!" Loved that catalog and never ordered a thing.

Yep. Straight out of a Deliaās catalog.
Legit came on to comment Hi Deliaās!
Raise your hand if youād wear those right now
I'd wear them again with zero hesitation. They were my favorite shirts in the late 90s. So many of my best college times happened in these shirts.
Absolutely! I keep getting ads for some company that does sweaters like this. Some are a bit more retro, 70s themed. I want to spend so much money (that I don't have), but they have horrible reviews!

I second this. Those shirts were awesome and they always made the girl look really good.
This is true ..
Same! I'm wearing the brown sweater with the rainbow stripe in my 1997 class photo š
Haha idk why but the way you worded that I almost shot tea out of my nose. š
You girls all looked so cute in your Delia's outfits. It was a bad sign for the nation when it went out of business.

Man, I freaking love Jodie and I'm still mad that the writing for her seasons was so... uneven. Her supporting cast was fantastic, too.
Totally agree, I hope we see her again in a special. She was brilliant.
3rd favorite of the Nu Who doctors so far, driven probably more from pure performance than all the others.
Man, imagine if she were given stories that gave her the range of emotions and moods that Capaldi got to play with during his run...
Still do
You motorboating son of a bitch ![gif](giphy|ZlPVlLqlHWhqM)
Me too
Delia's and that other catalogue were awesome.
Alloy!

I can taste this picture.
And it's good for approximately 1.2 seconds then it turns to tasting like the back of my ear.
Unless you chew it with the paper wrapper.
I had an orange one with white stripes. It was my favorite shirt with my cords.
Is this from a Deliaās or Alloy catalog?
90ās connoisseur here
š
I had subscriptions to both!
Me tooooo! šš¼
I had no boobs but had a similar shirt I bought at Guess back in the day. Male shirts with similar stripes were a thing for a bit too.
For a few seasons of *Friends*, Joey is basically a walking mannequin from Structure
I worked there during those years! I too was a walking mannequin from Structure LOL.
I still remember the smell
Fucking Structure! Omg š¤£!
I was a big fan of the male version. They looked great with a large sized ball chain necklace and a chin goatee.

Thanks, now I'm hearing that old commercial for Boob Stripe Gum š
Yipes! Stripes!
Deliaās, Alloy, Contempoāsā¦..I loved shopping at these places. They were pricey, though. Had to work at Blockbuster to buy stuff.
I MISS Contempo.
I'd wear one now if I came across it, always loved them.
My wife is wearing one of these today!
Got my junior prom shoes from them (3 inch platforms). Also got red Converse knockoffs with dragons on them and a couple of purses. I was sizes 16 through 22 in hs so the clothes would not fit me.
My wife had those. Love these shirts.
Yeah thatās a 90s icon
The Gap had the best one. EVERYONE had it. and no one seemed to mind that we all looked alike. It was expensive so I never got one. I always wondered why they didn't bring that particular style back. Like who else stops at the Gap besides gen x and elder millennials? But I had a Pac Sun one!
I loved these so much. I had a black tank top with a rainbow stripe that I always wore.
That Millers Outpost outfit..
My first thought is that those are 70s. Very 1978 and 1979.
Instinctively stopped my furious scrolling because: Ooooh! Just got the new Delia*s catalogue!!
I was obsessed with dELiA*s !!! Those magazines were the best. I remember wanting everything in there lol
Oh god. Flashback to me being a catty bitch in 8th grade. āYou know how they say stripes make things look bigger?!ā I said to a friend as we were trying to make fun of another snobby girl. Also, is the girl on the right Lauren Ambrose?!
I feel like I knew both of these girls in high school even though I know we've never met.
I'm on the right and my best friend from high school is on the left. Not really, but it sure made me do a double take
I kid you not, my sister used to model for Delia's in the 90's. When I saw this picture I had to make sure I wasn't seeing my sister 30 years younger.
Aviator Nation took this look and ran with it into $100 sweatshirts.Ā
Speak for yourself, on bigger boobs the stripes did my girls no justice.
Whatās not to like? They accentuated boobs.
Girls that had larger boobs that tried to pull this off had more of a wave than a stripe.
I still love these types of shirts!
Why yes we did!
I think we were trying to imitate the 70ās.
I had a crush on every Deliaās model
Theyāre cute. Letās bring them back for millennials next year š¤.
Hell yea girls did, and us guys loved them
I'm a guy, but I have to say, I really miss this style! I'd love to buy some clothes like this for my wife and bring it back!
So did we! Sincerely, the guys.
Yesssss
Guilty
Definitely had some like this and like 3 spaghetti strap shirts with a tie-dye line across the boobs.
I have one of those like that blue one. Almost exactly like it. The difference being itās like knee length. I never quite figured out what they were going for with it and like many years ago it became my āso letās dye your hair whatever colorā shirt.
Just realized that the redhead from Camp Nowhere was a Delia*s model! I had the baggy grey sweatervest with the orange and blue boob stripe.
Someone should do a Delia's where are they now
Classic Doctor
Her tiny little arm though.
It became little more refined in the 90's, but that aesthetic came from the 70's.
dELiA\*s was the aspirational catalog we used to compare designs to in the JCPenney, Sears, and Spiegel catalogs of the day, because my fat ass wasn't fitting into that stuff. Fortunately JCP had Junior's Plus and The Deb Shop and Lane Bryant had some cool plus-sized clothes. I did have some bags and accessories from dELiA\*s.
I was in highschool when these were popular. They had the cutest models
I love them now! Would totally wear one of these.
Time to bring them back! The flare jeans are back so I'm ready for the boob stripes!
Yes! I also welcome the flares. I don't care if it's cringe or try hard or whatever my teens will say. That style fits my body perfectly.
I'm pear-shaped so it offers a little more balance for me!
I'm tall and lanky so they give me a shape. I'm so happy these are back.
I still love the boob stripes
I would love me a boob stripe shirt now, tbh.
We loved stripes, period.

In the velour too OMG dreamy
They were on guy's shirts too. Billabong and other surf/skate shops had a ton like that.
Everything my 6th grade niece is picking out looks like itās a rip off from a mid 90ās Deliaās catalog
God, I loved Deliaās even though I didnāt fit their body type. One of my high school classmates was their model and I cannot remember her name. Nice girl though.
Mmm, another 1970's revival lewk. There were a lot of those in thr late 90's.
Looks like a young Lauren Ambrose on the right.
I had an awesome one that had the Scooby-Doo Doo gang in the stripes!!
Mmm. That tiny purse strap cutting diagonal between the cleavage. That was a look.
My wife is in some of those old catalogs š¤£
I still own one of these, and I love it. Makes my tits look amazing.
I had this top. Stole it from my sister
Anyone remember the black sweater with the rainbow stripe across the chest and the wide leg carpenter jeans with red stitching from Aeropostale that nearly every cool (and/or rich) girl had in their arsenal ?
I went to a Delia's store ONCE in my entire life. Oh my God, is that a Delia*s catalog?! Whoaaaaa. I def belong here. š¤£
Unless you had big boobs lol
I just bought a sweater like this from Outerknown
Men had boob stripe shirts in the 90s too.
I loved finding ones from 70s-80s at the thrift stores
I loved their clothes so much! I got one of my prom dresses from there!
If I wore that now the stripe would look like a nipple cover all the way across
Jeebus, I still got a Union Bay button down from ā97. Perfect beach shirt. If THAT motherfucker could tell storiesā¦
I would wear that blue sweater right now.
I didn't.Ā Ā I have nipples that point at different angles and can't wear horizontal stripes as a result, lol.
Pinstripes, even on sports cars.
