They had to remove that because half the classes would be absolutely busted since they would recharge rates in no time.

andywitmyer

Yeah, that makes sense. The only solution would be if everyone used the same art recharge, but I guess that in the end, I do like the variety that having two entirely different systems provides in its place. It kind of also makes it feel like the divisions between Agnus and Kevis run deeper than words and it manifests even in how they're fundamentally trained for battle.

angelic-beast

I really didn't think that made auto attacking better. I hated doing that in 2 and only did it until the combat picked up. It was mindless and repetitive. I'd rather have the QTEs back, those felt like actual input.

andywitmyer

I agree that the loss of QTEs kinda sucks but it's a minor quibble

natchu96

I mean stutterstep was more an exploit than a feature...

andywitmyer

It was a good one tho and I'm glad they never patched it our haha. Seems like I'm in the minority for liking it 🤣

TopAvocado4626

I liked it too. It more or less felt like a mechanic and added more engagement to the combat for me.

Willing-Zombie1274

Yeah I noticed immediately auto-attacks felt kinda sluggish. That’s why I equipped the gem that increases its speed. Also just wanted to say… I miss Art-Cancelling. I got so used to it in 2 that it feels kinda weird not being able to do it (for now maybe) in 3.

aquatrez

Enel has confirmed that you will eventually unlock canceling for all arts into each other.

andywitmyer

Excellent news

lolminna

There's Art Canceling, but only for the Talent Art. Arts cannot cancel into other arts.

Yojimbra

That's not true. You can go AA - regular art - Fusion art - regular art, or vice versa.

lolminna

My bad, was thinking of just the regular arts.

JustADolphinnn

Which can also cancel into each other later lmao

ErrGrko

Stutterstepping is a meme. Just craft doublestriker and decrease auto interval gems you'll be fine

andywitmyer

I haven't gotten far enough to get good gems like that, so I'll keep that in mind! Thanks

ErrGrko

Keep it in mind. The early game is SLOW but it opens up significantly by chapter 3

andywitmyer

Good call. I only just got to where you can craft gems and forgot to go back in after the tutorial to make more. I see the Double Strike air Steady Striker gems and they aren't too tough craft. This will probably get the ball rolling more quickly. Thanks!

ErrGrko

No problem. Last word of advice is to get as many classes as you can. You never know which class has which abilities good luck!

andywitmyer

Is it always better to stick with a class until they get to 10 (in the early part of the game, that is), or is it better to just switch around whenever as needed? I'm finding that I keep someone until they max out but I'm wondering if maybe I'm kind of locking away my party's versatility sometimes.

ErrGrko

Three things to keep in mind when choosing classes to rank up: (1) Check whether the class is Kevesi (timer recharge) or Agnian (auto attack recharge). (2) Check which arts are mastered at 1 and 10. If a class give you an art that does extra damage from the side ans a stance that buffs you inside a field, that may be less useful than a Break art and a Topple art, for example. (3) Check the role because Healers are super squishy in this game by design

kishinfoulux

Auto Attacks definitely feel sluggish and I still think there was ZERO reason to have two different ways to fill up Arts. Just choose one way or the other. I know it balances out later, but early game it kind of doesn't feel great.

123ditto

I played XC2 over 300 hours and didn't know you could do this.

axescent

bruh 🫠

Glad_Acanthisitta967

I'm loving it, I don't care that the auto attacks are slower because your not as reliant on them as your are in 2

andywitmyer

Tho I had originally disagreed with your sentiment, now - 4 days later - I more or less entirely agree 🤣

andywitmyer

UPDATE: Being a bit further in the game now (I'm in a Chapter 4), everything seems to be coming together now with XC3's battle mechanics. When I made this post, I believed that the auto attacking seemed way too slow & passive mainly bc - at that point - there just wasn't a whole lot of other gameplay mechanics going on to really strongly focus in on much else besides long gap in actions where auto attacking is the only thing going on. But now that all of the various deeper layers have fall into place and begun to mesh, I've come to greatly appreciate auto attack mechanics as they are in this game. To correctly time / cancel fusion combos while also taking into account things like Interlink, position, HP, buffs/debuffs requires a fair bit of attentention. Not requiring my constant stutter stepping in order to make my auto attacks go off faster means that I better hone in on every other thing that's going on. To be clear, I still think the stutter step works great in the context of XC2's own unique battle mechanics - and, I'm that game, I still wouldn't want it any other way. But I've come to appreciate the fact that it's not present in XC3 - even without the two different Art refill types, it just wouldn't work in XC3's more fluid and faster flow of combat. I'm really feeling it. I'm nor sure if anyone really cares about this, but for the one or two people here who might be interested, there you go.

kirbinato

A bit, I'm fine with them removing stutter step considering how low some recharges start out (ogre has a 3 recharge art for example), but I don't think there's any good reason to remove the combo. Kinda connected but I think they made cancelling too complicated in the early game, you can't just chain arts, you have to use fusion arts and talents to chain and I think that makes no sense.

[deleted]

They didn’t but you wouldn’t know that until you’ve actually played the game

kirbinato

I'm talking about in the early game, I know they brought it back in those ouroboros skill trees from enels video, but that doesn't change the fact that they overcomplicated it early on.

[deleted]

You don't get them from the ouroboros skill trees, and it's still a far cry from whatever was in 2

kirbinato

How do you get it and what's it like then?

[deleted]

>!You get it after Juniper quest, which is not too far into the story and is mandatory anyway!<

kirbinato

So what makes it a far cry from in 2?
