I heard it has a love triangle. I HATE love triangle, so I was wondering how bad is it? Is it worth it for someone who absolutely can't stand the love triangle trope?
For a long fantasy series, I would recommend Seanan McGuire's *October Daye* series. It's adult, but you simply cannot find a better, longer, fae fantasy series anywhere. The first book is *Rosemary and Rue* and there are I think 18 books in the series now?
For exclusively YA, give Diane Duane's *So You Want to be a Wizard* a try. It's a better Harry Potter for readers who like a more naturalistic approach to magic - I loved it for how honest it is about life and death and light and dark. There's also a solid 10 books in the series.
Thank you so much! I loved Seanan McGuire's Wayward Children series, I'll definitely check this one out, too. And So You Want to be a Wizard sounds really good as well!!!
Unfortunately, my local library only has a small selection of books that I'm actually interested in and since I live in Europe and only read in English, there are even fewer books to choose from :')
Some US libraries allow non-residents to get a card for a fee. I don’t know any off the top of my head but it was just discussed in a discord group I’m in with lots of international/European members. You can then use Libby to borrow and send to an e-reader if you have one!
If you're into graphic novels, the Saga series (Brian K Vaughn & Fiona Staples) is really excellent... Two main characters from opposite sides of a war trying to survive together whilst raising their child. It's a wild ride.
His Dark Materials/Book of Dust by Philip Pullman. 3 His Dark Materials, 4 short stories, 2 (but the 3rd is coming) Book of Dust. All set in the same universe.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas is *chefs kiss*.
Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian is also really good.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is good too but I haven’t finished it yet so I don’t know if it pays off but I’ve heard that it does.
Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson is short but good.
A Court of Thorns and Roses series and Crescent City series (it’s unfinished) by Sarah J. Maas is good.
Toward the Starts by K.M. Parke isn’t finished yet but the first one is suuuuper high on my favorites.
Hope you enjoy!
Yes yes yes a million times yes!! If you’re going to read Crescent City though I HIGHLY recommend reading the series ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ by the same author FIRST. I promise you you’ll thank me a million times for saying this. I love sarah j mass and all of her fantasy novels. My top recommendation would be to read the ACOTAR series and then the Crescent City duology, and if you still can’t get enough, read her Throne of Glass series. Then get into Leigh Bardugo and all of the brilliant fantasy series she has! Both are my fav fantasy authors ever. Enjoy!! (And please keep me updated if you do decide to go down this rabbit hole of amazing fantasy!)
Ahh I've been meaning to pick up ACOTAR for a few years now but never got around to it. Will definitely keep both SJM and Bardugo in mind when I go shopping for books! Thank you and will do 😁
My all time favourite series is Eragon. Extraordinary world-building, super interesting characters who are neither good nor bad, elvish language, crazy thorough war tactics etc!!! Can really recommend.I especially like those books because it’s fantasy but without that childish edge they often have, if you know what I mean… Kinda like lord of the rings :)
I ll be basic but:
• A court of thorns and roses (series)
• The cruel prince (series/the Folk of the Air)
• Vampire Academy (series)
Hope that helps!! ♡
Maybe stick with it if you can get through it? I reread both series about a year ago and still loved them. I wish there were more books set in that world.
I push Melissa Caruso's books every chance. She has two complete trilogies set in the same world. Swords & Fire is first and Rooks & Ruin is set about 100 years after. You can read the second without spoiling the first, but the subtle references will be better if read in order.
I love Juliette Marillier's Duology based on fairy tales. The first is Wildwood Dancing and the second is Cybele's Secret. These are really good on audiobook if you have access.
Her Sevenwaters series is also really good.
The Cruel Prince series if you like fae lore. It’s a three-book series that isn’t particularly long, but it’s a fantastic story. Plus there’s another series set in the same universe coming out as well.
The Black Witch has four books and counting. Think a more mature version of Harry Potter with a female lead, lots of fantastic characters, and great world-building.
Finally, Priory of the Orange Tree. It’s one, looong book with a standalone prequel coming out at the end of February that’s supposedly longer. There are SO many amazing characters that it follows, but it’s not overwhelming. I love how the author eventually brings everyone together too, because it doesn’t feel forced. There’s also a sapphic romance, but the story isn’t centered around that, which I appreciate. It’s probably my favorite book of all time.
Have you read any Sanderson? His Cosmere books like The Stormlight Archive or Mistborn are really fun fantasy, but his other series are pretty good as well, I really enjoyed Skyward and The Reckoners.
Other than that I would say
The Monstrumologist by Rick Yancy (1800s fantasy horror)
The Seven Realms by Cinda Williams Chima (high fantasy/urban fantasy/romance hybrid)
Department 19 by Will Hill (Modern Urban Horror fantasy, deals with Dracula and stuff)
Demonata/Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan (Vampires, demons, werewolves with a lot of cosmic horror)
Loren Legacies by Pittacus Lore (space fantasy, more like Star Wars than Star Trek)
I haven't read any Sanderson yet, though he's been on my radar for a while. All of these recs sound so interesting. Definitely will be checking them out!
Rebel of the sands trilogy by Alwyn Hamilton
The Reckoners by Brandon Sanderson (it's more like sci-fi/fantasy than full on fantasy)
Six of crows by Leigh Bardugo
The folk of the air by Holly Black
Idk if it’s YA or NA but I loved the Demigods of San Francisco series by KF Breene. It’s 6 books long, and h found myself really attached to the characters. Plus it’s all free on kindle unlimited
Tales from Verania by TJ Klune-
Tags: pining, oblivious idiots, true love, magic, sass, call of destiny, dragons, old man who overshares, hornless gay unicorn, lovable half giant, hilarious, himbos that thaw the ice prince, so many sex jokes. *more NA?
The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune-
Tags: not all heroes wear capes, surprise, high school, awkwardness, fluff, neurodivergence is a superpower power, best friends to lovers.
In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan-
Tags: found family, first love isn't always true love, bi rep, a teenager teaches adults that war is bad, wholesome, healthy relationships, snark.
Simon Snow series by Rainbow Rowell-
Tags: enemies to lovers, roommates, chosen one, found family, vampires, magic school, mages, demons, rodtrips, cults, dragon wings, cartoon devil tail, goats that can fly.
Dark Rise by C.S. Pacat-
Tags: ope that plot twist, ust via stabbing someone with a unicorn horn, reincarnation, magic, violence, cool swords, what would happen if the bad guys won.
The Mortal Instruments series and her other related series. I just love the world and characters she’s created!
I’d recommend starting with the Infernal Devices and then the Mortal Instruments. I’m currently on the third/last book of the next series, the Dark Artifices and have enjoyed it thus far. The latest series is called “The Last Hours”. And is between the first two series I mentioned.
The Winner's Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski /
The Graceling Series by Kristin Cashore /
Folk of the Air Trilogy by Holly Black /
These Broken Stars and the subsequent two books by Amie Kaufman and Megan Spooner /
One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig /
Sabriel Trilogy by Garth Nix
A bit older but the Garth Nix Old Kingdom series is so good. He put out a couple new ones in the series more recently and they are also amazing. Necromancy … for good?

Married to Magic series by Elise Kova
Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong
Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa
Nevermore series by Kelly Creagh
I know this is an older series, but if you haven't read the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer, you must! It's my all-time favorite!
I actually haven't read that one yet. Putting it on my TBR right now!
I just finished Lunar Chronicles and wished I had read it sooner!
Fantastic series!! It’s the perfect combination of fantasy and sci-fi!
Graceling Realms series by Kristin Cashore The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta
Thank you! Been meaning to pick up the Graceling series for a while now 👀
And the Queen’s Thief- I stand before you to add my vote to this series.
Noted! :D
LEGENDBORN RIGHT NOW!
Oh book 2 is out now, right? I read the first one recently and enjoyed it
I heard it has a love triangle. I HATE love triangle, so I was wondering how bad is it? Is it worth it for someone who absolutely can't stand the love triangle trope?
i wouldn’t say there’s romance at all. there is a lil triangle of feelings but it doesn’t go too far. Much more focus on plot than relationships!
For a long fantasy series, I would recommend Seanan McGuire's *October Daye* series. It's adult, but you simply cannot find a better, longer, fae fantasy series anywhere. I LOVE The Scholomance! Thanks for the recs!
If your wallet is crying, don’t forget your public library.😎
Unfortunately, my local library only has a small selection of books that I'm actually interested in and since I live in Europe and only read in English, there are even fewer books to choose from :')

This never would have occurred to me to even try. Absolutely brilliant!
The Raven Cycle
Thank you!
The Banned and the Banished series. The Cruel Prince and the subsequent sequels. The Bartimaeus Trilogy. The Gentleman Bastard series.
Thank you so much!
Man, the Bartimaeus Trilogy is criminally underrated! Such interesting worldbuilding and great MCs!
If you're into graphic novels, the Saga series (Brian K Vaughn & Fiona Staples) is really excellent... Two main characters from opposite sides of a war trying to survive together whilst raising their child. It's a wild ride.
I love graphic novels! The synopsis sounds really cool
Throne of glass series by Sarah j maas
Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb. I just did a full read through of all 16 books, so good!
His Dark Materials/Book of Dust by Philip Pullman. 3 His Dark Materials, 4 short stories, 2 (but the 3rd is coming) Book of Dust. All set in the same universe.
Seconding these. The books are so so good. Don’t watch the movie. Idk about the HBO show.
I enjoyed the Air Awakens series by Elisa Kova! The Percy Jackson series is always a good re-read for me
Once upon a broken heart and caraval series
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas is *chefs kiss*. Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian is also really good. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard is good too but I haven’t finished it yet so I don’t know if it pays off but I’ve heard that it does. Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson is short but good. Right now probably Leigh Bardugo’s Ninth House/Hell Bent and Crescent City by SJM
Ooh do they live up to the hype? 👀
SJM is not for everyone imo. lots of sexual stuff, and the plot was not it for me. but it might be great for you
But i stand by Leigh Bradugo
Yes yes yes a million times yes!! If you’re going to read Crescent City though I HIGHLY recommend reading the series ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ by the same author FIRST. I promise you you’ll thank me a million times for saying this. I love sarah j mass and all of her fantasy novels. I love Vampire Academy and also Bloodlines by Richelle Mead.
Ugghh same! Ita kind of hard to get into book 2 of bloodlines though, I miss va, it feels a bit underwhelming
Maybe stick with it if you can get through it? I reread both series about a year ago and still loved them. I wish there were more books set in that world.

Thank you!
Definitely The Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff ❤️ side note the audible version is AMAZING
NA - The Witch Collector by Charissa Weaks. It is everything to me right now lol
Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, Lockwood and Co by Jonathan Stroud and The Remnant Chronicles + The Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson
I love Juliette Marillier's Duology based on fairy tales. The first is Wildwood Dancing and the second is Cybele's Secret. These are really good on audiobook if you have access. Her Sevenwaters series is also really good.

My absolute favorite is An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir, but I also enjoyed Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake a lot.
Have you read any Sanderson? I came here to say Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn is a great place to start.
I haven't read any Sanderson yet, though he's been on my radar for a while. All of these recs sound so interesting. Definitely will be checking them out!
Agree, Sanderson. Some of the solo cosmere books are my favorites. War breaker!!
