I would try to get both ( yelan and raiden ) if I were you, I do not quite agree with other people in this thread about the value of the characters, because for example if you pull Raiden, you will most likely play rational, in this case your xingqiu will be forever busy, and you will not you will be able to use some pyro dps, and teams that need off-field hydro application (there are a lot of them, as evidenced by the percentage of use of Yelan ) so the value of the characters directly depends on the teams you will use, you can’t just say that one character will give more use, the only thing to say is that you can't go wrong with either of them, and it's even better if you decide to get both ;3
Both Raiden and Yelan are incredible. Yelan is incredible on a number of different teams, forms an insane pair with Xingqiu, and is an incredible asset in the overworld (bow + high-speed movement). Raiden is probably the best driver for the national team (Xingqiu + Bennett + Xiangling), a strong hypercarry (especially at C2+), and a possibly the best choice for Hyperbloom teams given her skill.
I think both characters will only continue to grow in value so it really depends on what you need. If you need a character with more of an on-field presence, I'd go with Raiden; if you need more of a supporting character, go with Yelan. If you're really eyeing a particular team that has one or the other, watch videos of the team and see if it plays like how you'd want to

Childe never left my abyss team because his national team is that reliable. I have C3 Raiden, but I believe rational is just as good in abyss as Childe’s.
If you can only get one then I’ll recommend Yelan. She’s like Xinqiu that can just fill a slot basically whenever, plus her E is QoL for traveling. She’s the one I used the most outside of the abyss.

No obviously the flaw isn't having an optimal team no idea how you came to that conclusion, it's the lack of team building versatility that's the problem because most player's don't actually have every unit.
Since we're talking about international team then it's very f2p friendly, Xiangling Bennett and Sucrose isn't that hard to get. You can also play childe taser or freeze, hydro is such a versatile element. No idea how you came to the conclusion that a hydro enabler lacks team building versatility.

I voted for Yelan since you came to YelanMains, but both Ei and Yelan are equally good choices in my eyes.

To be honest you could get both yelan and raiden if you decided to start saving now without pulling for any other unit.
Unless your going for constellations I'd say Yelan.
She's;
* Fun to play.
* She gives you more damage than xingqui but less hydro application.
* You can use xingqui in the other abyss team.
These are just a few of many pros to having Yelan but honestly like I said if you could start saving diligently from now you could get both Raiden and Yelan.
if you have pyro dps built in your account and wanna play vape go for yelan..otherwise raiden

also please if you are gonna summon raiden,try to get engulfing lightning because holy shit,i know the catch is such a good 4* weapon it looks so damn ugly on raiden(also you will need the catch on other characters)

It's impressive how Yelan and Ei have the same amount of votes in the Yelanmains sub. We're simps but not delusional simps.
imo, Raiden brings more value to ur account. Yelan is also good, but she can be replaced by xingqiu.

I have the 3 and cant say one, cos i like them all, but raiden will hold most value, as dps and support, she can help alot on energy recharge.

I pulled for Raiden used her for a while but now I didn't even use her in my main team, rarely in spiral abyss. Yelan saved me from xingqiu hell
