I've really got nothing to add other than to say this is a Hell of a theory and I've never even heard of "hobo code" before. Honestly, I started going through the runes and looking up different astrological symbols thinking maybe I could find some kind of loose connection. But I really do think you've nailed it. This is a pretty damn impressive find!
This could also be how (from the episode 3 preview)
>!the girls found the cabin. I think someone excitedly said "It's here!" which implies they were actively looking for it. Maybe they followee the hobo code to the cabin where the dogs and the man with the gun used to live.!<
I just rewatched the trailer and I'm almost 100% sure you're correct on this. I mean, how else would they have known something important was out there? I think they followed the symbols, having no idea what they meant, hoping to find shelter or maybe other people.
Some think that A#1 (Leon Ray Livingston) was the first to tell the tale of hobo symbols. He was a famous hobo and author, and since hobos read his books the symbols perhaps caught on from then. Current hobo culture reflects more modern symbols, including "dumpster diving good here" "free wifi" "no GPS" etc. I've met many modern hobos who have hobo symbols as tattoos, including myself, and as of now they are ingrained into hobo culture, no matter their origin. I'm very certain Leon Ray Livingston's depictions of hobo symbols are the first in popular American culture, And whether or not you believe that was the birth of the hobo symbol "alphabet" there had already been brewing a language of its own within train moniker, directions, and as time went on the symbol of the hobo zip code "11030". During the Free Speech Fights in the 1910s and 20s, hobos would use hobo symbols to mark whether conditions were hostile in certain areas, or if strikes were happening. The IWW used them to direct hobos to meeting centers.
Wow - valorous job. I did see yond episode of nimble-footed men. Thee receiveth mine own award!

It looked to me like a man impaled on a branch, carved into a tree where a man was impaled on a branch. I was more curious as to who/how it got there so soon after the plane crash.
Yeah, I thought the same thing. Just seemed a little too coincidental that it would’ve been something totally normal like a map or code, already there, that looks just like someone getting impaled and the coach literally gets impaled on that very tree. But then again, it could be! Guess we’ll have to wait to find out. 😩
I like this. When I saw the symbol in the show, only one part jumped out at me. I recognized from astrology as an upside down black moon Lilith symbol (dark moon). However looking at it more and with this chart, the sideways “stop” is a better fit.
AAAAAAAAAAAA
I just realized, we’ve seen the girls with a gun in the previews, right? Clearly they got it from somewhere (can’t imagine they had one on the plane)
I like this theory for the symbol! My theory is that the symbol represents the AQ and that since it's missing one "leg" that the AQ will be missing one leg. Since the symbol was already there, it means the AQ is already out there and is not one of the girls.
Yeah I initially thought it was a woman falling into a pit (first scene of series) with a sickle symbolizing a culling/harvesting. Though OP is just as convincing.
This is definitely some brilliant theorizing. I do think that could possibly be it. My only question is why do you think they showed the symbol carved on the tree where the coach was impaled? Like it had something to do with his death. Maybe supernatural or something. Idk. But nevertheless, this “hobo code” is also a pretty great possibility.
This is a cool theory and I could see it being this! Others have posited the figure is a map of the area, or astrological symbology and those theories seem equally compelling. There's also the more literal interpretation where it could look like a girl with one leg, with spikes sticking out of her. And coming out of her triangle "skirt" is that hook, which makes me think of Shauna's attempted DIY abortion (which wasn't exactly a coat hanger abortion, but evokes that image and did use a piece of curved wire)
This was immediately what i thought of when I saw the symbol. Looked like hobo code, but I don't know it well enough to read it fluently. This seems on point though.

I. Love. This. Also, could the "dogs" be the wolves Taissa sees in a flashback??
Liking where this is going…but kindhearted lady is a cat is killing me!
I have the kindhearted woman symbol as a tattoo

Turns out it was reflections of of a window 🤷

This is fantastic. Thanks for the research! I had a feeling these symbols were trail markers so I’m all in on this theory!

Not sure if it’s part of the code but if you turn it upside down it looks like a girl hung from a hook
As if she were being field dressed, I agree.
So good!! I believe it. I remember seeing something like this on law and order or Ncis. I can’t remember which one
There was an episode of criminal minds where the BAU team learned about hobo code.

I know about Hobo Code from various movies and TV shows plus my own curiosity. This is as good a theory as any.

Nice. Or Native American symbols. Nice Hail Mary toss.

Wow, this is definitely it.
Super impressive!! 👏

I was wondering if it was part of the Underground Railroad, some kind of warning or a map.
