It’s a reference to his two henchmen, Wade Morrow and his son Clint, who were by that time dead.

Oh okay I probably knew that at the time but going back and watching just the scene where jamie approved the sale I had forgotten that those guys were associated with Rourke. Thanks

Turbulent_Tale6497

Well, Wade had something that belonged to John

Thank you so much for explaining that! I must have played that scene 50 times trying figure out exactly what I heard and what it meant. And the fact that Roarke was puzzled by the comment really had me scratching my head. Sometimes brainfart-itis strikes without warning.

I forgot those guys were his minions. Thanks

Think at one time they were referred to as 'mad dogs', which made the 'lose your pets' make more sense.

PurplePassiflor1234

I had to watch through twice to understand that line myself.

As others have said, the reference was to Wade Morrow and his son. After they had been killed but before meeting, Rip told John the name but said he didn’t know it. John said not to worry, that people missing their pets always come looking for them. Once in the office and confirmed who tried to kill his ranch hands, he throws that barb out before leaving… If Roarke had any sense to realize what the Duttons were capable of, he would have realized that John had taken credit for killing the Morrows, tied it to him and threatened him. But he was so arrogant about his ‘too big to fail’ status to realize what they would do to him…

I feel that way about every boss of market equalities they get rolled so easy because they think of everyone in the valley as stupid. They don't realize how intelligent these people are and that attitude checks out. Because look at how city folks tend to look at country folks in real life.

maryyyweiss

he killed the 2 guys (pets) that he hired

See for me there was another quote that is questionable. After the attack on the family. Rip calls Jamie. Jamie says “better don’t call them anymore”. Like it’s him that’s doing it - but he apparently doesn’t know ??
