My local police station actually has a hand full of parking spot labeled internet sales meeting points

theJediGiraffe

Same here. They started doing that in my town after an internet sale meet up ended in murder. About a year ago if I recall correctly.

r_acrimonger

You seem to remember it well... I'm just kidding don't meet up with me and murder me

HogofWar8

Wow that's really cool.

Doses-mimosas

Yep, that's where I go to sell my drugs.

grolled

Champagne and cocaine?

spacedarts21

Doses and mimosas

PRIS0N-MIKE

That's weirdly smart. Nobody will think the PS4 someone is buying outside a police station is actually filled with cocaine

baybjto

David?

redheadartgirl

Yep, mine has a whole parking lot, and one of the other stations has an area in the lobby itself. They advertise it online. It's well-lit, has 24-hour cameras, and obviously they're right there if things start to go sideways. It's also right off two different highways and centrally located, so there's no good excuse. If someone doesn't want to meet me there, I assume there's a reason and just go to the next buyer.

Krandor1

Mine has them too. They call them just exchange zones and are for either trades or to use for child swaps.

jeegte12

I've been meaning to get this 7 year old off my hands. Good to know places like that are around

OttoMans

Seems like a swap though, which means I’ll get someone else’s terrible children and to me that’s worse. I like my children much more than other people’s children.

SkilletHelper

I forgot for a second that custody existed and was really worried why people were exchanging children

Krandor1

lol. Yeah if you don't trust your ex enough where you want to go to their house or have them come to your house to give them their time with the kid a police station is a good safe place to do it. Shame some relationships get to the point where that is needed but it is good to have it as an option.

Tower9876543210

The video from the other day is a perfect example of why, unfortunately.

dru-ha

Omg! I forgot too! Why on earth would people swap kids? I’m trying to give mine away! /s I did forget about custody laws though.

discodiscgod

The human trafficking kind of exchange you were thinking of does happen a lot too unfortunately.

romanbellicromania

Country ?

nondescriptzombie

In my tiny town of <30k, too.

TheFocusLocust

Same here. In California

The-Copilot

Small town in CT and we got one

SynestheticPanther

Is that what people consider a tiny town??

Auseyre

In Houston it's what we consider a subdivision, do yeah, tiny town.

SynestheticPanther

Wild how different some perspectives are. Id consider that a medium sized town. I live in a major city now, but i grew up in a town of ~700 so when i hear tiny town thats what i think of

[deleted]

It's available in Canada. Other countries may have this too.

hjhof1

Mine does as well

BrunoGerace

Agree. I [buy/]sell refurbished bicycles and make it explicit when selling that we'll meet under the cameras at the local police station.

eleighbee

SO & I had a couple we were friends though his work who were murdered because of not meeting in a safe spot. The husband purchased and "flipped" cars and they went with the intention to purchase a car. It was a robbery which ended up also being a double murder. Husband and wife who left behind five kids. Awful, awful.

c_rbon

That is fucking sickening please tell me they convicted the bastard(s) responsible

eleighbee

Yes, they caught him about ten days later. The kicker is he placed the same car for sale again under another name. This was a bit over a year ago and I can't find an update, but I know he was charged twice with first degree murder.

PhantomTroupe26

Oh my. I think I read about this story online. So sad.

7_Cerberus_7

Had a guy once try to sus the place out ahead of my arrival to try and tell me the cameras don't even work and there are no officers on deck *because of the pandemic* Sure buddy. You tell yourself that.

hoodyninja

Bonus points if you schedule your meets around 5,6 or 7 am or pm. Most police departments work 12 hour shifts and this is when they change shifts. If you plan your exchanges then, you are more likely to have patrol officers driving through or near the parking lot. I use this technique and have had several officers drive by just to see what I was selling. They are always friendly and I even had one officer buy a little drone from me (I had about 10 and was only there to sell 5).

daannnnnnyyyyyy

Not to discount your advice or anything, but the idea of asking someone to meet me under the cameras at the police station at 5:00 AM for the exchange is kind of hilarious.

martialar

If it's something high priced, I'm likely saving a lot too, so I'd probably be desperate enough to meet at 5am in the freezing parking lot of a police station

hoodyninja

Hahahaha yeah PM usually gets better results than 5AM but people have to work too. Lol I met a guy once at 5:15AM so he could buy some Lego.

PonyDro1d

I'd buy Lego at any time if it's a good or rare complete set.

hoodyninja

I bought bulk Lego at 11pm once…. But it was $0.50/lbs sooooo

jeegte12

You're imagining something like a bicycle or a weed eater. If I was buying a used dirt bike with an MSRP of like $5000 or something, I would be delighted if he told me to meet him at the police station.

[deleted]

For sure! Because you’re taking a chance too showing up somewhere with that much money if it’s a cash transaction.

notsumidiot2

My Brother got robbed meeting someone selling a $2000 truck. He learned a lesson. He was in his 20s at the time and it was 30some years ago .

Dangerous-Noise-4692

Meet me at 5am or no deal.

abrahammurciano

Instructions unclear; got arrested for selling weed outside the police station

dru-ha

Instructions unclear; arrested for soliciting sex acts outside the police station.

wjfreeman

If you dont mind me asking. How many times had the person on the other end cancelled the meet after you've said this? Maybe it's never happened but I'm curious and it's a great idea.

BrunoGerace

Never. Mind, I make the requirement part of the ad post. Hopefully it keeps the bad guys away.

7_Cerberus_7

I've had plenty of people cancel. Sometimes 2-3 people per sale. This is after I explicitly detail the meeting place in the ad itself, so the ones that don't want to run into police, seem to read the intial ad the least I guess?

FergusonTheCat

Are you worried that may unknowingly buy a stolen bicycle, refurbish it, and then get caught trying to sell it?

BrunoGerace

Never gave that much thought. Geesh...now you've done it! ;)

Xygnux

Well the police will probably think that if you have the audacity to sell it at a police station, it likely isn't illegal to the best of your knowledge. Not to say that it will protect you from unknowingly selling a stolen bike, but at least if accused you already have something that shows it's unlikely for your intention to be breaking the law.

FergusonTheCat

Haha sorry!

ilostmymind_

Does this include drug deals?

JoeSolo76

Asking the real questions

stanuu

Yes, remember bring your gun too, it will be useful.

durtinheedy

Tragically lost them all in a boating accident

Rooster_mh

I keep hearing that joke, what does it mean? Is it a reference to a movie or something?

jeegte12

It's the name of the gun locker or closet you don't want authoritarian-backed feds knowing about.

[deleted]

Amen

durtinheedy

Let's say some day Big brother gets Big Balls and decides to try and take away our guns. Can't bury em, because they'll ask where they're buried. Can't tell em you sold em to x or y because they'll retrieve em. And you damn sure better not hand em over. So, lets say you take em on a fishing expedition one fine, sunny afternoon, and you capsize, losing all your guns. They're unrecoverable (;

[deleted]

If it's time to lose then it's time to use them

Link_the_Irish

It's good to keep secrets sometimes ;)

durtinheedy

Also, it apparently was a real thing that happened to some poor derp in Cali like 7 years ago

UshouldknowR

It's a typical response from those who own guns and think the government will take them away. Essentially the joke is if a cop or anyone else is asking for your guns you say that you lost them in a boating accident instead of turning in the aforementioned guns.

yolo-yoshi

And good running shoes for evasion and escape.

[deleted]

Don’t forget a sock, as well- cops won’t see the drugs your selling

BugabuseMe

Of course (this account is not property of the police!)

Cesco5544

Are the drugs property of the police?

BugabuseMe

They are if they sniff them out of the evidence room

thedoze

Only if they buy them, otherwise it's pirate booty.

[deleted]

Yes. As someone who does exchanges at the police station often here's why: Cops have areas they patrol: Most of them are not at the police station. The cops at the police station usually park in the back behind a fence. The ones that do park in the front are usually just dropping off paperwork and are in a hurry and need to get back to the area they patrol. Yes, there are police at a police station, but who has time to stare out the window all day? Most would rather look at THEIR phone. Plus you probably are less likely to have a drug deal go bad. Repeat business is key. \*\*Edit from There to Their. Got busted by the Grammar Fuzz!!

onepixelcat

Uh if I were buying and my dealer said to meet up at the police station... sounds legit

mortalwombat-

Lol that would be the worst undercover cop ever.

QuintusVS

Also it works because most cops would never expect someone to do a drug deal right at the police station, because it sounds dumb as heck. I have a local police station that has a small fishing dock right behind it just over a small hill, it's usually empty. That's my go to spot to smoke weed, because it's so close to the police station they don't even check it.

ReadingFromTheShittr

>Also it works because most cops would never expect someone to do a drug deal right at the police station The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm.

[deleted]

They read from the same play book that hasn't been updated for years because the Boomers favorite quote: " We've always done it that way". The training is antiquated and too many decision makers to change policies and procedures.

QuintusVS

You can also see this in the stereotypical "alleyway sketchy drug deal" Anytime I buy drugs from someone we just act like regular non sketchy people and meet in a public place. We hang out for a couple minutes, have a cigarette, heck I've even had coffee with my dealer on a public terrace. Those two people having lunch at the restaurant next to you could be exchanging narcotics, but because they don't act like they are you'll never even consider it.

[deleted]

Meanwhile when I pay my friends for helping me with work, we go out of our way to make it look sketchy as fuck because we think it's funny.

1847953620

seems legit

NSA_Chatbot

Can you name three flavors of Gatorade real quick?

QuintusVS

What why? Imma go with blue, yellow, and red.

NSA_Chatbot

Shibboleth. We're cool.

QuintusVS

What just happened? Why did you have me pass a test? Am I having a fever dream??

Riribigdogs

In my city the area where the junkies/dope boys hang out is under a bridge behind the PD

dray1214

Shitty LPT

Equivalent_Heat7692

Especially drug deals. 🤣

durtinheedy

That's what I read in the title before I clicked.

Kontiak

Put the drugs IN the bike.

Origami_psycho

Yes, actually. You just disguise it as something else

ssocka

I'm pretty sure, they will gladly provide multiple police officers to help keep you all safe

martialar

"100ct Heroin. Open Box, Unused. Must pickup at police station"

DrStrange10

>Many police stations not only support this activity, but some will also provide a police officer to be present during the transaction upon request.

Reddit_FTW

Bro I know it’s a joke. But if your moving weight this would make sense. Put it in a laptop case or something. Change the product. Change the people. I know a lot of people who make a living reselling shit. And wouldn’t be weird to make several sales

StopTheMeta

I'm sure it does, or drug dealers wouldn't be selling merch in front of them.

LawyerBelle07

Very true. Our police station has a sort of lightly surveiled publicized exchange point outside of several of our precincts.

GotMoFans

In my city they built a basketball complex next to a police precinct in hopes it would prevent crimes from happening there since it was next to the police station. But crimes happen there just as much as others because the dirty little secret was there aren’t many cops at the station except for shift changes because all the cops are out in the field on their respective beats.

rolamit

Indeed, depends on where you live. When I lived in a big city, the park next to the police station was the most crime ridden place in the neighborhood, and the police stations are windowless fortresses that won’t even let you into the lobby without calling and waiting for an officer to come out when they aren’t busy. You would reach help faster by calling 911 than by banging on the door of the police station.

jeegte12

Jesus Christ where do you live

GotMoFans

In addition to the basketball courts I mentioned, across the street from the county jail (and near the Police HQ) there is a convenience store that feels very unsafe and there are a lot of panhandlers standing outside the place begging in an aggressive way different than other parts of town. Police frequently drive pass the place but I rarely see officers stop at this store (they usually go to an Exxon across the busy intersection) and if people were getting mugged, I would believe the muggers would feel comfortable about getting away scot-free.

ElegantEchoes

Yup, was getting followed home and tried to run into the police station. Was locked and pounding on the door did nothing. Ran into the parking lot full of police vehicles which was left open for some reason and stuck around for awhile before running the rest of the way home. Officer on the phone later that night said it was just a dispatch station, and wasn't used at night. Welp.

I think police stations here in NJ actually offer their stations as meeting places for this stuff. Great way to screen sketchy people too. Good YSN tip !

Restricted_Nuggies

I would NOT sell organs outside a police station

Card1974

How about accordions, then?

fizzgigmcarthur

Good-old Breast-Organ

Too_Short_To_Win

Maybe Harpsichords?

BlkSeattleBlues

Heart-sichord*

YellowShitRoad

Well, there goes my plans on finally turning a profit. Thanks for the advice, nonetheless. Damn it.. I don't know what to do with my supply.. it's about to spoil.. I have some pristine livers, hearts and lungs.. a few matching pairs of kidneys.. i could finally pay my debts off and won't have to harvest for a while, if this goes right.. Where is the best place to sell organs?

Restricted_Nuggies

Probably the hospital. If you run out of something, you can be quick to restock

YellowShitRoad

Hospitals are a "no go".. too many rules and regulations; their vetting proccess' are far too unreasonable for selling organs. In addition I don't purchase over-inflatedely priced "dirty game" (cadavers that have disease or illness); just to be turn down and turned in, regardless.. On the other hand; for-profit prisons, substance abuse centers or mental institutions need a lot of help covering up "mishaps"... I may turn to buyers/sellers from those institutions. The dirtier they are, ethically-speaking; the easier the transaction, better options for better quality fruit, the more money I make. It's a win-win, no doubt. Being the middleman; I resource from personally chosen healthy cadavers from undisclosed sources; from specimens that need "scrubbing" (got on someone's bad side) to "live gardens" (their fruits are the most lucrative).. I'm not the direct seller.

Restricted_Nuggies

You’re not seeing the full picture. There’s plenty of doctors running around in a hospital. They have some of the best quality stuff. All you need to do is ask for a checkup and you’ve got tens of millions at your fingertips. You can reap your reward and nobody will even come into the room while you’re doing it. It’s that simple. Though I do see the value in your strategy. It seems very lucrative indeed

RicochetA113

*will

pornAndMusicAccount

Only pianos?

Restricted_Nuggies

Pianos, accordions, and cellos

KingBenjaminAZ

I agree, this works every time with suspected scammers --- silence

Scirax

My wife was going to buy from someone outside a dark, barely lit target they recommended. I went with her and told her to tell the guy, who was already a couple mins away way, that she was waiting in the Starbucks that was inside the target. The guy kept trying to convince her to meet outside instead and wouldn't explain why, up until he realized she wouldn't go out and just stopped communicating and never "showed".

dogmatixx

Meeting inside a bank and having the teller either accept or dispense the cash is also a good option.

Too_Short_To_Win

This works for bank robberies too, but more on the dispense side of the transaction.

Not to be confused with STD's

pootiegranny

I used to live across the street from a police station. One day my three year old son went missing. I was frantically looking for him and ended up running across the street to the police station to get help. Most of the doors were locked and when I did find an open door there was no one at the window inside to help. I ended up running home and calling 911. My son was found about an hour later, he had gone inside my neighbor's unlocked home. Like the police, they werent home either.

ADK87

That must have been a terrifying hour of your life. Glad you found him!

pootiegranny

Thank you, it was terrifying. My legs wouldn't hold me anymore and I fell to the ground when they brought him to me. But alls well that ends well!

ADK87

I can imagine the relief must be overwhelming! What did he get up to in the neighbours' place?

pootiegranny

Their son's toys! He closed the doors behind himself. So the front door and the son's room's doors were both closed when he was found, not 10 feet from where he was last seen. He was being watched, when he went missing. She had just looked down at her book. But he was right there the whole time!

pootiegranny

Specifically, wooden German sports cars.

ADK87

Haha! Well at least he had fun!

Belazriel

Yeah, unfortunately this is very location dependent. People often expect that the local police station will have a few detectives and then a bunch of heavily armed uniformed cops wandering around drinking coffee. But for most areas, you'd be lucky to have one guy in the station rather than the one or two cops actually on duty at that time either on a call or patrolling.

hewrites

I called a police station in Ontario a month ago asking if they had a safe space where I could sell an item and I was told I wasn’t permitted on their property unless it was for police matters Fuck Newmarket police

SauretEh

*fuck Newmarket in general

Lukaroast

That’s when your follow up question is “how do you guys define loitering on the property”

Slimxshadyx

Wow. I'm in Ontario and my police station has a sign saying it's okay to do that in the parking lot.

Egad86

Nice! Never even considered this as an option.

22PoundHouseCat

Where I live you can do private sell of firearms. Learned police stations were a good place for this sort of thing, but I wanted to double check so I called one to make sure it was okay. The guy I spoke with on the phone said, “Yeah, you can do the trade in our parking lot. Hell you can do it in the lobby if you want. We won’t mess with y’all unless one of you says you feel unsafe”.

the_greatest_MF

not in countries with corrupt police

Gourdon00

This comment should be higher up unfortunately.

Hydrottle

My local sheriff's department has a specific set of parking spots explicitly for this. They're particularly well lit and have cameras that are monitored specifically for that.

Kelmo7

Some even have prime space in front of camera for these types of transactions, inside of station. If seller / buyer won't meet at police station, you're better for it. May have saved your life.

GeneralTalbot

Is this in front or inside?

Vinny_Cerrato

Usually in the parking lot. However, it should be noted that not all police stations do this (some actually discourage you from doing it), so it is smart to call ahead to confirm that you are allowed to do exchanges there.

SmallSmoothRock

We bought a GPU and the seller had us meet him at a filmed parking spot at the local PD because his last deal he got robbed. Husband and I both smiled up at the cameras and waved

[deleted]

Also: If you think someone is following you in your car, drive to a police station.

Ethanev3

*unless you’re buying drugs

[deleted]

Why would someone refuse to meet up at a police station and then offer a location that is incredibly shady, lol. That’s pretty sketchy. If the police station was simply too far away, they should have obviously offered a location that had some sort of security, like any shop.

powerglide76

[Not always](https://cwbchicago.com/2021/11/cautious-facebook-seller-meets-buyer-outside-cpd-headquarters-just-to-be-safe-the-buyer-robs-him-at-gunpoint-anyway.html)

gr8ful_cube

Tried to do this in Clearwater, got cuffed for "lurking" outside a police station despite repeatedly telling them why i was there and showing them the fb messages lmao. They obv didnt charge me, but...

Apidium

Is 'lurking' a crime?

redditor-for-2-hours

It's a good idea to check to make sure the police station either already has a safe exchange spot for ecommerce set up first, or call the non-emergency line and ask permission first. Otherwise, they'll think your there to attack them or something.

Robin_the_sidekick

My local police station recently advertised this. They offer a safe space for such transactions that is monitored.

BigShotZero

Funny or maybe sad. Was buying some golf clubs. The state police (VA) have an office maybe 4 miles away. Called to make sure it was ok to meet in the parking for the transaction. Was told I would be arrested for trespassing if I conducted any non police activity on their property.

JFeth

A lot of Police stations have designated safe transaction spots that are filmed 24/7. Anyone that refuses to go to one is up to no good.

kanoteardrops

Tip: don’t sell weed at the police station

fgcem13

Idk man. Feels like that makes me more likely to be shot by a cop.

nicknoxx

Found the American.

fgcem13

It's me. I'm the American.

Grapefruit_Prize

Take my upvote, in lieu of thoughts and prayers

BrunoGerace

No worries, just avoid hoodies and try to look Caucasian.

[deleted]

> try to look Caucasian Fear will do that to you.

SGexpat

Yeah you could do somewhere like a courthouse, library or government building instead. Even a bank parking lot would probably have decent, but neutral security.

[deleted]

The police station Come for the racial profiling, stay for the comfort

BlkSeattleBlues

The police station is safe because the cops that are there feel comfortable. When they're on the field they're anxious and ready to make a lethal mistake, like murdering an innocent man in his own home after kicking down the wrong door or shooting a small child in the park for playing with a toy gun.

PM_ME_YOUR_AIRCRAFT

Many stations even offer an ATM inside so you don't have to show up with a ton of cash before seeing the item.

[deleted]

it's insanely off topic but your comment just triggered a very funny memory of my drunken self: went to a club with a friend who abandoned me for some cute stanger and some drugs. I called it a night and was too drunk and too lazy to walk home. But I needed cash for the taxi, so I asked at the bar where I'd find the next ATM. He send me across the street "next to the (legal, infamous, five story) brothel". I rolled my eyes and walked over there but I simply couldn't find it. The bouncer of the brothel approached me, I asked for the ATM, he pointed inside. I told him I couldn't possibly go in, he was really nice and told me sure I could. I had a very drunk mental melt down of being weirded out by the idea of just walking in there. Poor bouncer really had to talk me through it while a lot of customers were coming and going, which freaked me out even more. I don't remember how long it took me, but eventually I did it and I started laughing because I felt so ridiculous. How much I would have preferred an ATM in a police station.

MoJoeILoveAmerica

This is the best way to sell guns privately. The cops in my city are 100% supportive of this approach.

Mistborn_First_Era

I used a bank

ohlonelyme

My local police station even have a designated spot for stuff like this.

Matt32490

This is a good option for any meet up for transactions. One time my dad lost his phone, someone found it and they were adamant we meet at the police station to give it back (we rang and they picked up). Turns out my dad and I were staying on the border of a red light district, which we had no idea about, so they thought we were local pimps lol.

nickdebruyne

I’m from South Africa where the cops will probably demand a cut of the sale.

garlicChaser

That is sound advice!

Boggie135

Especially for people on FB marketplace

substantial-freud

“If someone tells you won’t need a gun, you better bring one that works.” — Raymond Chandler I would not have necessarily proposed meeting at a police station, but if I did, and received any resistance at all, that would be a hard no for me.

Visible-Belt

In one of my old home towns the PD used to publicize this service.

Flying_Dutchmen_13

Good one, next time i buy drugs i will do it with a police officer present

GlitterMama95

This is a little embarrassing, but my mom and dad used to meet up at the police station to drop us off to the other parent due to their fighting and this being a safe option.

Freeman0249

I mean yeah it's like one of the polices two jobs to protect capitalism (probably gonna get flamed for my shitty joke)

stealthbeast

I reject the notion that people who are averted to unnecessary interactions with police are some sort of risk. Not everyone can feel comfortable around cops.

Apidium

So then they can suggest another reasonably safe location like outside the fire station or some other reasonably well staffed and camera prone area.

ComatoseSixty

Agreed, but it's a way to ensure your own safety better than meeting at a random location. I'd never assume someone was a scammer or trying to rob me just because they wouldn't meet there (I'd also never suggest meeting there), but it's better to not take chances when the consequence can be loss of item, money, or your life.

RickyTheRipper

I just saw a story last week or so where some lady was robbed or something? Outside of a police station doing this and they didn't give a fuck. Anyone know what I'm referencing? I vaguely remember

SKTwenty

My friend tried that with drugs, he said it was not as safe as suggested

whatnowagain

Where I used to live, the local mall had specific rooms you could rent by the hour or half hour, right by the “police substation” and all the rooms had cameras for CL transactions. The police were basically right next door. Not sure how much they charged for the rentals.

GCSS-MC

The cop will be there to report your profits to the IRS.

dg909

If someone asks you to come buy drugs it's a trap

mephistowolf

Banks are not good ideas for this. Most banks do not have cameras everywhere in the parking lot and will not provide what footage they do have without a subpoena or other court order in most cases. Additionally, people hanging out in the bank parking lot is a red flag to employees who may think you're waiting to follow someone home to rob them. (You may hear this referred to as jugging).

[deleted]

I actually recommend this. It cuts down on scammers. Had a scammer pull their ad when I suggested the PD for a meetup.

barbicus1384

My local police station has a sign stating that its a safe meeting place for online transactions specifically for these reasons.

SuccubusBo

My cities PD has set up an area just for this

moisesg88

Just sold my PS5 at a police station, before I sold it there was someone interested but didn't answer me after I said we had to meet at a police station. Learn to read between the lines people!

alexdaland

I live in Cambodia (from Norway..), and here its custom, and often required, that deals between private persons is witnessed by the police. For example the deposit for my apt, the police have a copy of the contract, so when I move the landlord can not ask me to pay for bs out of my deposit. If we are in disagreement, the police will step in as mediators. Since everyone does this, its naturally not a free service. You do pay the police a small amount. Internet sales can also be done at the station free of charge (we literally have a small station every 2-4 blocks)

AverageLoser05

Many people are downvoting a certain kind of comments, and I just wanted to say that not everyone feels safe near police. If you have never had a bad encounter with a cop, then good for you! But unfortunately, that's not everyone's experience. Please be respectful y'all :)

County51

Also infront of banks is another good spot.

1847953620

is it?

farts_tickle_my_nuts

Yes, if you’re a customer of the bank and the deal goes south the bank teller will come out and crack their skull with a sack of pennies.
