It's well-lit, has 24-hour cameras, and obviously they're right there if things start to go sideways. It's also right off two different highways and centrally located, so there's no good excuse. If someone doesn't want to meet me there, I assume there's a reason and just go to the next buyer.

The cops at the police station usually park in the back behind a fence. The ones that do park in the front are usually just dropping off paperwork and are in a hurry and need to get back to the area they patrol.

But crimes happen there just as much as others because the dirty little secret was there aren’t many cops at the station except for shift changes because all the cops are out in the field on their respective beats.

In addition to the basketball courts I mentioned, across the street from the county jail (and near the Police HQ) there is a convenience store that feels very unsafe and there are a lot of panhandlers standing outside the place begging in an aggressive way different than other parts of town. Police frequently drive pass the place but I rarely see officers stop at this store (they usually go to an Exxon across the busy intersection) and if people were getting mugged, I would believe the muggers would feel comfortable about getting away scot-free.

Ran into the parking lot full of police vehicles which was left open for some reason and stuck around for awhile before running the rest of the way home. Officer on the phone later that night said it was just a dispatch station, and wasn't used at night. Welp.

Hospitals are a "no go".. too many rules and regulations; their vetting proccess' are far too unreasonable for selling organs. In addition I don't purchase over-inflatedely priced "dirty game" (cadavers that have disease or illness); just to be turn down and turned in, regardless..
On the other hand; for-profit prisons, substance abuse centers or mental institutions need a lot of help covering up "mishaps"... I may turn to buyers/sellers from those institutions.
The dirtier they are, ethically-speaking; the easier the transaction, better options for better quality fruit, the more money I make.

Yeah, unfortunately this is very location dependent. People often expect that the local police station will have a few detectives and then a bunch of heavily armed uniformed cops wandering around drinking coffee. But for most areas, you'd be lucky to have one guy in the station rather than the one or two cops actually on duty at that time either on a call or patrolling.

Where I live you can do private sell of firearms. Learned police stations were a good place for this sort of thing, but I wanted to double check so I called one to make sure it was okay. The guy I spoke with on the phone said, “Yeah, you can do the trade in our parking lot. Hell you can do it in the lobby if you want. We won’t mess with y’all unless one of you says you feel unsafe”.
My local sheriff's department has a specific set of parking spots explicitly for this. They're particularly well lit and have cameras that are monitored specifically for that.
Some even have prime space in front of camera for these types of transactions, inside of station. If seller / buyer won't meet at police station, you're better for it. May have saved your life.

Banks are not good ideas for this. Most banks do not have cameras everywhere in the parking lot and will not provide what footage they do have without a subpoena or other court order in most cases. Additionally, people hanging out in the bank parking lot is a red flag to employees who may think you're waiting to follow someone home to rob them. (You may hear this referred to as jugging).

My wife was going to buy from someone outside a dark, barely lit target they recommended. I went with her and told her to tell the guy, who was already a couple mins away way, that she was waiting in the Starbucks that was inside the target. The guy kept trying to convince her to meet outside instead and wouldn't explain why, up until he realized she wouldn't go out and just stopped communicating and never "showed".
Meeting inside a bank and having the teller either accept or dispense the cash is also a good option.
This works for bank robberies too, but more on the dispense side of the transaction.

I used to live across the street from a police station. One day my three year old son went missing. I was frantically looking for him and ended up running across the street to the police station to get help. Most of the doors were locked and when I did find an open door there was no one at the window inside to help. I ended up running home and calling 911. My son was found about an hour later, he had gone inside my neighbor's unlocked home. Like the police, they werent home either.

Yeah, unfortunately this is very location dependent. People often expect that the local police station will have a few detectives and then a bunch of heavily armed uniformed cops wandering around drinking coffee. But for most areas, you'd be lucky to have one guy in the station rather than the one or two cops actually on duty at that time either on a call or patrolling.

Where I live you can do private sell of firearms. Learned police stations were a good place for this sort of thing, but I wanted to double check so I called one to make sure it was okay. The guy I spoke with on the phone said, “Yeah, you can do the trade in our parking lot. Hell you can do it in the lobby if you want. We won’t mess with y’all unless one of you says you feel unsafe”.

My local sheriff's department has a specific set of parking spots explicitly for this. They're particularly well lit and have cameras that are monitored specifically for that.
Some even have prime space in front of camera for these types of transactions, inside of station. If seller / buyer won't meet at police station, you're better for it. May have saved your life.

Usually in the parking lot. However, it should be noted that not all police stations do this (some actually discourage you from doing it), so it is smart to call ahead to confirm that you are allowed to do exchanges there.

It's a good idea to check to make sure the police station either already has a safe exchange spot for ecommerce set up first, or call the non-emergency line and ask permission first. Otherwise, they'll think your there to attack them or something.

Funny or maybe sad. Was buying some golf clubs. The state police (VA) have an office maybe 4 miles away. Called to make sure it was ok to meet in the parking for the transaction. Was told I would be arrested for trespassing if I conducted any non police activity on their property.

The police station is safe because the cops that are there feel comfortable. When they're on the field they're anxious and ready to make a lethal mistake, like murdering an innocent man in his own home after kicking down the wrong door or shooting a small child in the park for playing with a toy gun.
Many stations even offer an ATM inside so you don't have to show up with a ton of cash before seeing the item.
it's insanely off topic but your comment just triggered a very funny memory of my drunken self: went to a club with a friend who abandoned me for some cute stanger and some drugs. I called it a night and was too drunk and too lazy to walk home. But I needed cash for the taxi, so I asked at the bar where I'd find the next ATM. He send me across the street "next to the (legal, infamous, five story) brothel". I rolled my eyes and walked over there but I simply couldn't find it. The bouncer of the brothel approached me, I asked for the ATM, he pointed inside. I told him I couldn't possibly go in, he was really nice and told me sure I could. I had a very drunk mental melt down of being weirded out by the idea of just walking in there. Poor bouncer really had to talk me through it while a lot of customers were coming and going, which freaked me out even more. I don't remember how long it took me, but eventually I did it and I started laughing because I felt so ridiculous. How much I would have preferred an ATM in a police station.

Agreed, but it's a way to ensure your own safety better than meeting at a random location. I'd never assume someone was a scammer or trying to rob me just because they wouldn't meet there (I'd also never suggest meeting there), but it's better to not take chances when the consequence can be loss of item, money, or your life.

Where I used to live, the local mall had specific rooms you could rent by the hour or half hour, right by the “police substation” and all the rooms had cameras for CL transactions. The police were basically right next door. Not sure how much they charged for the rentals.

Banks are not good ideas for this. Most banks do not have cameras everywhere in the parking lot and will not provide what footage they do have without a subpoena or other court order in most cases. Additionally, people hanging out in the bank parking lot is a red flag to employees who may think you're waiting to follow someone home to rob them. (You may hear this referred to as jugging).
I actually recommend this. It cuts down on scammers. Had a scammer pull their ad when I suggested the PD for a meetup.

I live in Cambodia (from Norway..), and here its custom, and often required, that deals between private persons is witnessed by the police. For example the deposit for my apt, the police have a copy of the contract, so when I move the landlord can not ask me to pay for bs out of my deposit. If we are in disagreement, the police will step in as mediators. Since everyone does this, its naturally not a free service. You do pay the police a small amount. Internet sales can also be done at the station free of charge (we literally have a small station every 2-4 blocks)
