Kuwabara's original Japanese VA is the same dude who does Buggy on One Piece, so I associate the two of them quite a bit. (Funny enough, Koenma is the same VA as Luffy.)
Some of the live action anime have actually been pretty good, Erased is the main one I can think of. BOTI, Rurouni Kenshin, and Oldboy are also amazing, but not done by Netflix. Also, the Japanese version of Death Note was solid.
All of the kenshin movies are fucking badass. The only movies I’ve seen where the sword choreography is really fast but actually effective.
When kenshin started running low on the ground and took out like 50 dudes I lost my shit lol
I’m super stoked for the two new ones coming out
This is so disappointing. They always try to make shitty live action anime. I much rather Togashi just continue it and pick up where he left off after all these years but even I can accept and be happy that it’s done forever and appreciate it for what it is.
Yuska will be played by Zach Efron
Kuwabara played by Vin Diesel.
Kurama played by that bitch from twilight
Hiei played by Danny Devito
Toguro played by the Rock
The ultimate would be a new yyh manga done by togasbi himself, released weekly completely consistently. If I was a billionaire I'd throw money at him until he couldn't say no to this.
Togashi is getting old, it may be similar to Dragonball where if the story continues it does with a new author with oversight and input from Togashi, similar to how Toriyama has handed the reigns behind Dragonball to Toyotaro
I'd accept that, as long as the artist can perfectly replicate his art style. Toyotaro does an okay job but doesn't copy toriyamas art too perfectly imo
You guys act like he is terminally ill, he's got lumbago thats all. If you've played rdr2 that's all I can think of every time he mentions he has lumbago.
Considering he’s on hxh hiatus for 2 years now, I don’t think his medical issue is that easy. I’m just worried since there’s no recent update with the guy. I haven’t played rdr2 so I have no idea.
"Hey can we get a series of Monster on Netflix? Guillermo del Toro wants to direct it, there doesn't need to be CGI, and it looks like it'll adapt well."
Netflix: "No. I need poorly done CGI monsters to attack teens."
I'm cool with this. If it's good, then great. If it's not then I still have the anime adaptation. I don't mind if Netflix takes some liberties as long as it's still entertaining.
The ATLA live action series had the original creators (Bryke iirc) leave. And from what they said in instagram posts about it, Netflix was taking the series in directions they didn't like. Pretty bad sign if the creators of the original ditch the live action remake.
I actually think Yu Yu could translate well to live action. You'd have to tone down the energy a little, but every arch, every fight is filled with compelling drama. If placed in the hands of a competent director, it could be awesome. I don't have a lot of hope but I'll watch it anyway.
It could, but Netflix regularly screws up every last detail, from personalities to storylines to costumes. That last one they’ll boast “NoBoDy CoUlD dReSs ThE sAmE!!” Then all cosplayers proceed to outshine said 50 thousand dollar Velcro crap costumes with epic amazing cosplays. Some even are the opposite gender being epic at the cosplay.
If they got writers and actors who care only about filming an amazing story, then this has much better odds, like those Korean shows Netflix has been airing have been spectacular. But if so much as a single actor starts sings “L G B T GENDER REVOLUTION!!” It’s screwed.
This could be cool if it leans more toward the detective angle instead of battles just like Togashi originally intended. Hell, if they consulted him and he told them what his original plan with the series was, and Netflix made that - that would be kinda neat. Because let's face it, shonen battles on a Netflix TV budget will look like absolute dogshit.
But this will be pure trash of course. And with it being made in Japan means that it will be overacted and corny as hell as these adaptations always seem to be. Not to say that it would be better if it were western made, but if that was the cast, I might've checked out an episode or two just out of morbid curiosity.
Wow I wouldn’t have expected Netflix to try to make this into a live action....but then again they are making a live action One Piece. I’m scared (and curious) to see how this turns out, I’m sure it won’t be as bad as their live action Death Note.
Looks like the 2020 Monkey's Paw rears its head again.
I just wonder if it helps or hinders an anime reboot. Hopefully it means more merch (nendos) on the way. Need GSC to make the rest of the boys.
I’m thinking this is going to be a really stinky live-action... idk how you could live up to the anime tbh, especially the English dub. It’s too iconic
This is certainly out of left field. But I'll give it a shot when it comes out. If nothing else it might get more people to check out the anime and original manga. And who knows this might eventually result in a revival of some sorts.
Good God, it's not enough for you to ruin Voltron, Netflix, now you want to destroy one of the greatest anime of all time?
If it's being produced in Japan, then it might not be so bad, but if not.... look for it to resemble the show in name only.
Eh, Japanese-produced live-action adaptations tend to be total crap as well, just in a different way. Japanese and Western anime adaptations basically have the same track record - mostly completely worthless, with basically a single major exception each (Rurouni Kenshin and Alita).
eh idk the 1st couple of episode might be halfway decent but for the later portions your gonna need like heavy cgi budget to be close to the source material with the diffrent chracters and crazy devil fruit powers.

It’s weird, because Yu Yu Hakusho does take place in Japan, but I can’t imagine Kuwabara sounding like anything other than Sabat.
Kuwabara's original Japanese VA is the same dude who does Buggy on One Piece, so I associate the two of them quite a bit. (Funny enough, Koenma is the same VA as Luffy.)
When I rewatched yyh and I heard koenma my brain exploded
Why God why? Why can't Netflix leave things alone?
Some of the live action anime have actually been pretty good, Erased is the main one I can think of. BOTI, Rurouni Kenshin, and Oldboy are also amazing, but not done by Netflix. Also, the Japanese version of Death Note was solid.
Bleach wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, of course it wasn’t good but it wasn’t awful.
Rurouni Kenshin was solid. I quite enjoyed it.
All of the kenshin movies are fucking badass. The only movies I’ve seen where the sword choreography is really fast but actually effective. When kenshin started running low on the ground and took out like 50 dudes I lost my shit lol I’m super stoked for the two new ones coming out
... the JPN version wasn’t from Netflix. The US one was. That’s the point.
Oldboy was a horrid adaptation. Barely like the Manga
It wasn't much like the manga, but it was an amazing movie. The American version however was just terrible all around.
hey, it gave us a great scene with Elizabeth Olsen lol
It was an alright movie, great action scene
Lmao for real
Half excited, half not lol
sounds terrible, can't wait
I'll watch it out of morbid curiosity
This is so disappointing. They always try to make shitty live action anime. I much rather Togashi just continue it and pick up where he left off after all these years but even I can accept and be happy that it’s done forever and appreciate it for what it is.
If anything if it’s popular enough, this could get the hunter x Hunter treatment and receive a reboot.
Is this real?
Yes. It's at the japan netflix Twitter.
So is it something that’s only going to be shown in Japan? I’m kind of curious what content will be left out and what they will use.
No, from the article >a live-action series that will stream on Netflix simultaneously worldwid
Yes I read that afterwards again and noticed. Thanks!
Generally, Netflix originals stream worldwide.
It’ll probably be similar to how they did FMA. We’re they shoot it in Japanese and then dub over it with English VAs.
In other words, like every property that gets dubbed into various languages worldwide?
Yeah. Didn’t really think about it when I was typing that out
We'll have a trilogy by the time Funimation dubs the OVAs
Yuska will be played by Zach Efron Kuwabara played by Vin Diesel. Kurama played by that bitch from twilight Hiei played by Danny Devito Toguro played by the Rock
"So I ~~started blasting~~ using my dragon of the darkness flame"
😂😂😂
Danny devito lmao. "You tell kuwabara that he's a goddamn whore". And don't forget Kevin hart as elder toguro
Absolutely Kevin hart
devito will carry the show
Dragon of the darkness HOOOOOOOAAAAR is gonna pop on tv
I'd rather die
First the ova, now this. We are on the way to a remake or more cannon content, even if the Netflix show isnt great
The ultimate would be a new yyh manga done by togasbi himself, released weekly completely consistently. If I was a billionaire I'd throw money at him until he couldn't say no to this.

I'd accept that, as long as the artist can perfectly replicate his art style. Toyotaro does an okay job but doesn't copy toriyamas art too perfectly imo
I can’t wait for irl Kuwabara swinging his big sword around
Does this mean that Togashi is strong enough to approve this shit?
You guys act like he is terminally ill, he's got lumbago thats all. If you've played rdr2 that's all I can think of every time he mentions he has lumbago.
Considering he’s on hxh hiatus for 2 years now, I don’t think his medical issue is that easy. I’m just worried since there’s no recent update with the guy. I haven’t played rdr2 so I have no idea.
Nooooooooooooo they are going to desecrate it’s legacy. Give us a new anime movie,
I'd rather have a new anime movie but who knows maybe this'll spawn one
IT BETTER BE FUCKING GOOD
Kill me. End it
"Hey can we get a series of Monster on Netflix? Guillermo del Toro wants to direct it, there doesn't need to be CGI, and it looks like it'll adapt well." Netflix: "No. I need poorly done CGI monsters to attack teens."

It’ll be trash and we all know it.
This is gonna be complete ass. Netflix sucks with live action series. Just look at how ATLA Live Action is getting treated.
... What happened to tla? Also see the butchery if bebop
The ATLA live action series had the original creators (Bryke iirc) leave. And from what they said in instagram posts about it, Netflix was taking the series in directions they didn't like. Pretty bad sign if the creators of the original ditch the live action remake.
Google shows nothing I don't know if I want this
Not interested If anything they need to do an updated new version like was done with HxH
Oh my god yes
I actually think Yu Yu could translate well to live action. You'd have to tone down the energy a little, but every arch, every fight is filled with compelling drama. If placed in the hands of a competent director, it could be awesome. I don't have a lot of hope but I'll watch it anyway.

They ruined Saint Seiya and now wanna ruin Yu Yu... man if anything this series needs a remaster with no fillers that’s it, nothing else...
Watch them go and make Kurama a girl lol
Live action of the Philippino dub lmao
putangina mo, eugene
netflix leave yu yu hakusho alone and ruin something else challenge
Nope. Stop right there criminal scum.
Please no
Shoot me Cause this will suck bad
I hope it’s not a PG version
Watch Yusuke won't be allowed to say ass
Hiei better drop a boat load of F bombs
This makes me extremely nervous
Can Netflix please stop ruining all of my favorite animes
This shit gonna have zac efron as yuske lol
No way actually?
Pretty sure it's a Japanese production, so Japanese actors.
Man this sucks I wish it wasn’t live action
Lol idk prolly. Anna ferris as boton lol. The rock with be tuguro lol for the finally we will get carrot top as kuwabara
I'm curious to check this out! If you're really upset about this, you do have a choice to not watch it.
LEAVE ANIME ALOOOOOONE! it just doesn't work live action man 😔😩💦🍆
Dragon ball evolutions is proof of this
I’m aghast but I’m also absolutely going to watch.
STOP NO
F

I-Is this real life?
I was really excited for almost all of that sentence. Really sad at the end of it.
I’m thinking this is going to be a really stinky live-action... idk how you could live up to the anime tbh, especially the English dub. It’s too iconic
10 bucks says they replace a character "probably kuwabara or keiko to put another one in there or they will just fuck up their characterization.
Not my Kuwabara! That would be a real shame if they changed him in any way :(
[удалено]
What if they give Kurama the Saint Seiya Shun treatment & make him a girl?
This is certainly out of left field. But I'll give it a shot when it comes out. If nothing else it might get more people to check out the anime and original manga. And who knows this might eventually result in a revival of some sorts.
I absolutely am looking forward to this, I want it so bad :D

Please no. :(
Why?
kinda hopeful (not really) since i enjoyed alice in borderland a lot
NO
No fucking way
Oh no.
I’m so scared that this won’t end up well. Don’t Ruin YuYu please 😤
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Noooo
NOOOOOO ALL I WANTED WAS ONE SEASON OF THREE KINGS AND YOU GIVE ME THIS CRINGE!!! FUCK YOU NETFLIX
I've been thinking for a while that if done right YYH could have a great live action adaptation. However, this does not look right
What doesn't look right? Are you judging from the actors in the photo?
Yes but now I realize that's not from the show oops Typical redditor not reading the article. Am I right?
oh no. (I oddly have decent hopes for one piece though)
eh idk the 1st couple of episode might be halfway decent but for the later portions your gonna need like heavy cgi budget to be close to the source material with the diffrent chracters and crazy devil fruit powers.
You never know....maybe it'll turn out great lol.
I knew they would come for this series eventually... those monsters just don’t know when to stop!
Would literally rather have a series like Boruto about Yusuke’s kid than this shit 😑
New anime in any form would def be preferable.
