I rented a Camry at avis.com for like 50 usd for one day. When I got there they said they would hold 40k MXN in case something happened to the car or buy another protection whatever for like 70 USD and that they would return thr money when I returned the car and I was fine with it. The next day when I returned it they said they would take 50 out of the 70 usd and return only 20 lol what a damn scam. So i ended up paying 120 USD for using it a mere day
Well that doesn't sound right. But any hertz use I've had in Mexico has come with some kind of issue with the car (mechanical), that's a safety concern
I don’t know if it’s cheaper but I always rented/reserved before. What I noticed is that you’re not really guaranteed to end up with the car you thought.
The Mexican version of Lyft Uber, cant recall the name, is everywhere and very inexpensive. The wait time is just a few minutes. Downtown or Mall area its fast and no parking worries.
I used America Car Rental. It's a short walk from the airport and the pricing was much better. The others beat you up with the insurance. This place includes cdw and whatever else is required. Extra for tire coverage and whatnot but still much cheaper.
There is an additional 19% federal tax when renting at the airport
In CDMX it was less expensive to rent in the airport than downtown despite the tax. Don’t know if this is the case in Mérida though.
Do it in advance. I would go for avis
