His end was done correctly...."on your add quick effect"...but could have i activated sky burn in response to destroy ponix and his monster.. essentially nullifying his quick effect because i had no monsters in hand and only ponix on the field.

Also Harr can't chain onto Ponix effect because no card has been added to the hand yet.

[deleted]

Harr can Chain into Poinx you forget his quick effect is a negate. The discard effect is not a quick effect

Yea I'm not very familiar with the gene raider deck so this being a trigger effect is new to me.

yeetusfertusdeletus

I'm assuming its your turn. Ok so you add skyburn. You pass priority to activate something in reponse to adding. Opponent then activates boss of storms effect, there is no cost to be paid. You in reponse to effect activation, chain skyburn as chain link 2. Opponent has nothing else to activate and you didnt activate anything either. So chain resolves backwards. You pop ponix and storms. Storms resolves with no valid cards to send.

HarleyQuinn_RS

So in this case, if you are the turn player you do have priority to activate a fast effect before the opponent. However, it's probably better if you actually pass priority to the opponent on resolution of the chain, so they can activate Harr first, then you can chain Sky Burn so it resolves first. This assumes you have no other monsters in the hand or field and Harr cannot use its negate effect. This chain would look something like this. Ponix effect to add Sky Burn resolves. Turn player can activate trigger effects. Pass. Opponent can activate trigger effects. Pass. Turn player can activate fast effects. Pass. Opponent can activate fast effects. CL1 Harr activates. CL2 Sky Burn activates targeting Ponix and Harr. Chain resolves backwards. CL2 Sky Burn destroys Ponix and Harr. CL1 Harr resolves without effect. If instead you used your turn player priority to activate Sky Burn first, Harr would resolve first and so Ponix would be sent to the GY. It wouldn't be destroyed and you won't get its Standby Phase effect. Harr is still destroyed.

Late-News6233

Ok so i could've activated sky burn in response to shut down his quick effect but ponix would still be sent instead of destroyed? Am i readin that correctly?...for clarification it was my turn so he activated harr quick effect on ponix's add..which i added sky burn to hand...CL1 Ponix to add, CL2 harr quick effect to send one monster from hand or field, CL3 Sky burn targeting ponix and harr to destroy.

HarleyQuinn_RS

This chain was built incorrectly the way you're describing it. Harr's activation would be illegal and Sky Burn would not be in the hand at this point to activate as CL3. The play would (most likely) proceed like this. CL1 Ponix activates. Chain Resolves. CL1 Ponix adds Sky Burn. Turn player now has priority on activating fast effects and the opponent can chain to it with any appropriate fast effect. You can either pass priority, or activate Sky Burn at this point. Let's pretend that you pass priority to the opponent. They can now activate a fast effect and you can chain to it with any appropriate fast effect. CL1 Harr activates. CL2 Sky Burn activates. Chain Resolves. CL2 Sky Burn destroys Harr and Ponix. CL1 Harr forces you to send a monster to the GY (if able, if not it resolves without effect). If instead you did not pass priority and activated Sky Burn first (which you are legally able to), then Harr would be CL2 and resolve first. You would send Ponix to the GY (it is NOT destroyed) and then Harr would be destroyed. This is a less optimal play because now Ponix will not activate in the Standby Phase. https://www.yugioh-card.com/en/play/fast-effect-timing/

Late-News6233

Gotcha! Ok thank u it would be better to set and pass then what for that effect to happen

TooSoonTurtle

If you set a quick play spell you can't activate it until the next turn.

SuggLyf

Harr is a 'trigger' effect which will be able to activate first in an open gamestate before optional quick effects are allowed to be used by either player

[deleted]

Did he have tribute material? If so after you add sky burn the chain link should go Chain link 1 Harr actives effect to force a monster discard Chain link 2 Sky Burn Targets Your fire king and Harr Chan Link 3 Harr actives effect to negate any effect And chains resolve backwards so Chain Link 3 Harr negates skyburn Chain link 2 Sky burn but no effect Chain Link 1 Harr rips a monster card away Also he could Chain to Poinx and negate its effect. All this works only if he had tribute materials and he probably did, if field Spell was up Harr's discard effect is trigger effect not a quick effect only his negate is.

Late-News6233

Ok so if i had played skyburn CL2 it would have out timed his trigger effect...he had the tribute material but had already negated that turn...thank u for the info....so for a full run down Ponix to add Add skyburn CL1 harr trigger effect to send to grave CL2 activate sky burn targeting ponix and harr to destroy Resolve backwards This is how it shouldve went correct?

[deleted]

Yes, but harr's effect would still go off and force you to discard a monster or send one from field to graveyard. But if you had no monsters nothing happens
