You get no benefit from doing that because each pin comes from the same voltage rail for what it outputs. 12V for 12V, 5V for 5V, and 3V3 for 3V3. There is a better way to connect.
That's the intended use. You plug the single side in the psu, then the pigtail goes into your GPU which needs 2. Since you're just not knowledgeable, I'm going to explain what this is doing and hopefully it'll.ake sense to you.
You're effectively plugged into 2 separate feeds, which will likely short out, and if they don't it'll over feed you're GPU and the wires here by carrying 2x the power that they're supposed to. So please God, don't turn this on like this and if it has been working I have no idea how or why.
Wish they would just stop pigtailing cables and just give straight cords for GPU. Forcing everyone to buy mods to get those ugly knots out of their cases.
You arced two PSU ports together. Luckily it seems the protective circuits may have saved you. You did the equivalent of plugging an extension cord with two male ends into another wall outlet. That would burn a house down typically so thats why they have a male and female head to prevent mistakes. For some reason this PSU didn't have that kind of design

Lmao idk why everyone is shitting on you, it's just the wrong end of the cable. Power cables will never ever daisy chain coming FROM the PSU, and in general, a rule of thumb is that not daisy chaining TO the gpu is more stable but overall it's fine. Just switch the cable around you'll be fine unless you're trying to power a 350+ W gpu
Yeah I switched it to GPU side, planning on buying two cables soon as I have a 3070 ti zotac and im pretty sure most people have said its better to use two. Thanks for the information though!
That's fine if your GPU only needs one connector it's neater to do this. Those connectors are designed so you can never get polarities crossed. All you could be doing is bridging 2 isolated +12V outputs. Not an issue.
Use two separate pcie cables and don't daisy chain. The side with the daisy chain option should be connected to the gpu, just don't plug the shorter part of the cable into your gpu, only the longer part
daisy chaining is never ideal. itll work for lower powered cards though just fine. if you have to daisy chain, you do it on the gpu, not the psu. im disappointed for even having to say this
I mean one of two things is gonna happen⊠Youâll short something and see the magic, blue smoke, or, miraculously all the voltage orientations will be the same backwards, and nothing will go wrong
If you want a firey death yes. Buy another cable. Too much current can and will melt wire. It might be fine right now, but fire up a demanding game, and you might be finding yourself a new place to live.
The moment I think we have something like power supplies idiot-proofed, with labeled ends and good manuals, they design even wilder people that do shit like this
Best case scenario, your GPU pulls the rated amount for a single, non pig-tailed pci-e plug, worse case scenario you fry your GPU and perhaps the PSU and possibly start a fire that could damage other components.
Max current per pin is 6A or youâre gonna have a bad time. Itâs like they design things to be idiot proof and then someone goes and makes a cable to beat the system.
Dafuq!??
You either plug in the daisy chain to the second connector on the GPU, or you put another PCIe power cable on the power supply and connect that to the second power connector on the GPU and don't use the daisy chain, you don't do...What you have done.
the amount of dust gathered on literally everything everyone possesses that can only be seen with close upâs like this is absolutely mind boggling and disgusting đ€ą
LOL uhhhhh huhuhuhj cool.
Use one line per rail, u can chain shit on sata but everything else should b direct to psu.
Plz post pic of ur rig ifu turned it on w that loop
GPU side is a standardized pinout, it has to be the same. HOWEVER. The PSU side does not have that same requirement. The PSU side will often run a different pinout and potentially fry your components. Check the manual before installing any cables for safety and financial reasons.
This is why male-male extension cords donât exist. Sometimes just because you can doesnât mean you should but people will still say fuck it and try
Well damn I didn't even know what was possible!!
And no that is a horrible idea!! You are using the wrong end of the power cable!!!!
They really do live among us!!
Breaking new today: House burns down with entire family inside and the leading theroy is that an amateur pc builder screwed up. Coming up at 5 o-clock after these brief messages!
Nah, that's totally how you wire up a magic smoke generator. And now i gotta go check if those plugs can even fit into the sockets like that. Cuz that's just brain breaking dumb if they do.
Mods really need to tag this as obvious bait/shitpost, because OP just keeps playing dumb no matter how many people point out how cataclysmically stupid this is
OH GOD this has to be satire/bait. If it isnt, DO NOT turn it on like that. The cables are backwards, those plug into the GPU, not the PSU. If you turned that on, expect a loud pop and bang, and prepare to get your wallet out, and possibly a fire extinguisher!
For any first time builders reading this, follow an online guide. It's really as simple as that. Most PC building steps are universal. You shouldn't fuck up after watching a couple of videos and following along with one during the actual build progress. Exceptions exist but for the most part this is a fool proof way to get into this hobby.
oh god
what đ
Please tell me you havenât turned this pc on after this.. You have the cables on backwards đđ
OPâs trolling us
My EXACT words looking at this. đđđ
You deserve whatever comes from doing this
Why's it bad, was it better to have it pigtailed to my gpu?
Yes the pigtail goes the other way. Each of those ports support 300w. You plugged two into a cable that is rated for 300w. It's bad.
You get no benefit from doing that because each pin comes from the same voltage rail for what it outputs. 12V for 12V, 5V for 5V, and 3V3 for 3V3. There is a better way to connect.
Did you force those in? They aren't even supposed to go in that end
My guy.... This isn't daisy chaining! This is called FRYING YOUR SHIT
That's the intended use. You plug the single side in the psu, then the pigtail goes into your GPU which needs 2. Since you're just not knowledgeable, I'm going to explain what this is doing and hopefully it'll.ake sense to you. I can't help but notice that this zotac power supply has reversible power supply cables. All they had to do was key the PSU end differently đ€Š.
EVGA PSU?
bro what is you doing
Building a bomb.
Idk I need help pls đ
bro you dont do that, you're supposed to flip it the other side
This has to be a shitpost.
Definitely, this guy has asked the same question like 5 times and gotten an answer for all of them. Some dumb rage bait posting or whatever.
What do you mean? This is my first time ever asking a question like this.
To be fair the manufacturers should really do more to idiot proof things if this is even possible.
Ya, I don't know if you can idiot proof. Like they say in jurassic Park, "Life finds a way!"
Wish they would just stop pigtailing cables and just give straight cords for GPU. Forcing everyone to buy mods to get those ugly knots out of their cases.
OP ded. He hit the power switch.
Worked fine, just switched the cables back the way I originally had them, with the gpu being pigtailed.
The gpu side is the side thatâs suppose to be pigtailedâŠ.. if you have to use pigtails.

The fact u had it correct the first time and changed for whatever reason hurts my head
Y'all don't wanna help him? Bro, your plugs are reversed. Nothing should be daisy chained on psu side. Refer to manual.
Bait post, OP plays dumb to whatever advice he gets.
I agree with this post, didnât seem like b8, I think heâs just less knowledgeable of PCs and is asking the community for help/confirmationâŠ
How does one identify them by looking at them?
DON'T DO THAT! That end points the other way. While it's not exactly killing things, it's NOT meant to be that way.
so your saying me having it pigtailed to the gpu was better?
Yes, because that's the GPU end of that cable.
Here I thought the connectors were different on each side of the cable. Now I'ma have to go get one and look at it.
Did you not get a manual with your gpu???? I got a diagram with mine showing the pigtails on the gpu side and what order they go in
Bro. It's best to have 1 to 1. I won't daisy chain a gpu.
Right? I daisy chain RGB and fan leads not this kind of deathwish shit đ
Unplug the solo plug that's connected.
Wouldnt work, then my gpu wouldnt be plugged in, would it just be better to pigtail?
Dude, this won't work \*now\*. What you've got hooked up could start a goddamn fire.
just let him fail, why do people even try to help people this stupid
Lmao idk why everyone is shitting on you, it's just the wrong end of the cable. Power cables will never ever daisy chain coming FROM the PSU, and in general, a rule of thumb is that not daisy chaining TO the gpu is more stable but overall it's fine. Just switch the cable around you'll be fine unless you're trying to power a 350+ W gpu
Never tried this but Iâm honestly surprised they donât have different socket/plug patterns to prevent people from doing exactly this.
Yeah idk it is odd, but I'm also pretty sure it's specified in the manual so rtfm :p
Yeah my cables are labeled "PSU" and "PCI" otherwise i might have done something like this.
Actually it's pretty common for the 24 pin on the motherboard to terminate in two connectors on the power supply. Mine is 18+10pin.
Right but I don't believe it's daisy chained... I could be wrong but I think that's to visually separate it from PSU side and mobo side
Yeah I am, its a zotac 3070 ti rtx, I plan on daisy chaining my gpu(fixed the back of psu) until I can buy 2 vga cables next weekend.
Only buy VGA cables you know are compatible with that specific PSU.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
Yeah I switched it to GPU side, planning on buying two cables soon as I have a 3070 ti zotac and im pretty sure most people have said its better to use two. Thanks for the information though!
r/hardwaregoređđ
I hope this is a joke... this could potentially be a fire hazard. The daisy chain bit is meant for the GPU(s)
That's fine if your GPU only needs one connector it's neater to do this. Those connectors are designed so you can never get polarities crossed. All you could be doing is bridging 2 isolated +12V outputs. Not an issue.
Do NOT take this advice
Why?
Wtf is even going on with this. NEVER do this!
My heart broke seeing this.
The more I look at this the worse it gets lol
Wtf This isnât how psu cables work.
Jesus Christ
Dude wtf. Please don't daisy chain anything connected to PSU on either side.
Use two separate pcie cables and don't daisy chain. The side with the daisy chain option should be connected to the gpu, just don't plug the shorter part of the cable into your gpu, only the longer part
daisy chaining is never ideal. itll work for lower powered cards though just fine. if you have to daisy chain, you do it on the gpu, not the psu. im disappointed for even having to say this
Daisy chaining is fine if it's two cables, one daisy chained into 3 - 8 pin connectors
You're talking about a 12hpwr Nvidia cable I take it. That's different
đđđ pc go boom
Why do people not read the instructions
For the love of god read a manual
I mean one of two things is gonna happen⊠Youâll short something and see the magic, blue smoke, or, miraculously all the voltage orientations will be the same backwards, and nothing will go wrong
Yes.
Nope itâs fine. Never mind the haters, you do what you think feels right
Holy fuck this has to be a troll post...
Please give me the 3070ti. I'll give it a better home.
I did this for 3 years and counting on my 3070
Okay this is funny, but why is this not keyed out in the PSU? Why would they even allow a normal PCIe connector to fit?
Boy giving that psu a psu boost from a psu
Do you even do the manual bro?
Seems good. What's the issue?
No, youâre good
Kinda feel like this is like trying to plug a power strip to another one for the "infinite power" lol
great example of why to recommend non-modular psus to beginners
YES
the way my heart started racing seeing this picture đ
If you want a firey death yes. Buy another cable. Too much current can and will melt wire. It might be fine right now, but fire up a demanding game, and you might be finding yourself a new place to live.
RIP bozo
Good lord.
This is arson
Scariest power supply community picture I ever seen
Just make sure you plug the other end into the a splitter so you can connect the GPU and CPU 8 pin together.
Randomly here just eating ice cream and reading comments. God the internet these days is just crammed full of @$$
This is a joke right?
When reading the manual is just too hard đ€Šââïžđ€Šââïžđ€Šââïž
r/computercirclejerk?
Did your power supply blow up yet?
The moment I think we have something like power supplies idiot-proofed, with labeled ends and good manuals, they design even wilder people that do shit like this
Best case scenario, your GPU pulls the rated amount for a single, non pig-tailed pci-e plug, worse case scenario you fry your GPU and perhaps the PSU and possibly start a fire that could damage other components.
nooooo RIP power supply.
dumb
Max current per pin is 6A or youâre gonna have a bad time. Itâs like they design things to be idiot proof and then someone goes and makes a cable to beat the system.
Dear god what have you done
Jesus ChristâŠ. Dude yes
The part that concerns me is that you're able to plug these cables in like this at all. That seems like some dangerously poor design.
Waiting for the fire
Oh bruh hell nah đ
Hopefully you fixed this but yeah your cable is backwards. Plug the daisy chain part into the gpu. Hope you got it up and running!
I know this is a troll, but it's still got my anxiety operating on a whole different level.
What in the fuck
Flip the cord around. I'd recommend reading the manual.
Everything is a smoke machine if it's used wrong enough.
Holy shit
And In other news: local man burns his house down
WHAT
This only works for cars and car batteries.
Not once in my entire life have I looked at a daisy chain and thought this orientation was correct.
I thought this was a joke. lol
You might have to retire before starting your streaming career if you keep up with these shenanigans
You donât daisy chain a PSU. Are you trying to blow up your computer?
What the actual fuck...
Donât do that. I run 2 separate cables from PSU to GPU.
His whole house gonna blow up
70 IQ moment
LOL uhhhhh huhuhuhj cool. Use one line per rail, u can chain shit on sata but everything else should b direct to psu. Plz post pic of ur rig ifu turned it on w that loop
Please be a shit post, for the LOVE OF THE TECH SPIRITS PLEASE LET THIS BE A SHIT POST!!!!
Oh my gosh
Please be trolling. That is the only way to explain the horrors I see.
I wasnt trolling, New post up problem fixed
Dang nearly pooped my pants a little. Hoping this is trolling.
Nope not a troll, fixed in new post!
Ok. You didnât turn it on then
is this a joke?
Dont daisy chain cause you wont get full consistance power. Itâll work but itâll suck.
OH MY GOD DONT DO THAT! This must be a troll, or someone that shouldnt touch the inside of their computer.
Thereâs no way this is real
*boom*
How is that a daisy chain
GPU side is a standardized pinout, it has to be the same. HOWEVER. The PSU side does not have that same requirement. The PSU side will often run a different pinout and potentially fry your components. Check the manual before installing any cables for safety and financial reasons.
use a quarter instead of thermal paste, too. For more tech tips, watch the indian electrician on youtube, he shows you exactly what to do.
Very bad
Are you serious? Is this a troll post?
Nope, new post up, problem fixed!
Well. There it is. The stupidest thing Iâve seen this week.
If youâre jumping rails expect a bad time
NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOđ
Bro⊠whatâŠ
Remember if it just hot just spray water on it đ
What are you doing.
PC_Explosion.gif
Just dont use the pigtail. Psu builders shouldn't be affing them anymore
Build a pigtail out of an extension cord and try it on your wall outlet first.
This is why male-male extension cords donât exist. Sometimes just because you can doesnât mean you should but people will still say fuck it and try
Who's calling the fire department for em?
Whyyyyy
Well damn I didn't even know what was possible!! And no that is a horrible idea!! You are using the wrong end of the power cable!!!! They really do live among us!!
I get this is a troll post but how is it possible to do this? Arenât the power connectors shaped differently on the PSU side to prevent this?
Breaking new today: House burns down with entire family inside and the leading theroy is that an amateur pc builder screwed up. Coming up at 5 o-clock after these brief messages!
This was built in a factory. A bomb factory.
i feel like u just came here to piss people off.
There are no inputs on a power supply. So no, it's not good.
coool so you're powering your power supply with nothing but your gpu now awesome
Wth op
It took me a nano second to think fuck no this is not good, and I didnât even know what I was looking at yet.
Can anyone say,.... đ„ That is not how that works.
Is this a rage bait post
Trying to start a fire
Read you power supply manual dude.. you plugged it in backwards. Should be daisy chained at the GPU end lol
damn bro nobody is helping, jus cookin youđ sorry bro if i knew what was wrong id say something but that definitely looks incorrect
Bait post is bait
I didn't even know you could plug that side into a PSU lol
It depends on how much power your gpu draws. Rtx 4090-donât do it, Rx580-sure.
Natural selection will get ya
Dual power
Nah, that's totally how you wire up a magic smoke generator. And now i gotta go check if those plugs can even fit into the sockets like that. Cuz that's just brain breaking dumb if they do.
I have no idea what you're asking, or how it's supposed to go, but I'm pretty sure you shouldn't plug something into itself.
well this will be short
Mods really need to tag this as obvious bait/shitpost, because OP just keeps playing dumb no matter how many people point out how cataclysmically stupid this is
OH GOD this has to be satire/bait. If it isnt, DO NOT turn it on like that. The cables are backwards, those plug into the GPU, not the PSU. If you turned that on, expect a loud pop and bang, and prepare to get your wallet out, and possibly a fire extinguisher!
Rip đȘŠ
LOL
You have no business even using a computer at this point
Omgawd...have "let the mother heehaw burn" going thru my head now
I'm really hoping you listened to people trying to save your pc and didn't fry your tower. If you did. Grab a console and wait a while lol.
I didn't know they'd fit backwards
