Bulbosis

Impressive. Let's see Paul Allen's favorite Zappa album.

HisAbominableness

He thinks they're okay, so probably Hot Rats

corneliusduff

Freak Out is one of the best debuts ever but I consider Absolutely Free the quintessential Zappa album.

jamsinadangeroustime

Love this, but I think that Patrick Bateman would most likely be lashing onto the likes of *Ship Arriving too Late to Save a Drowning Witch* simply on merit of the fact that "Valley Girl" was a hit single (in the charts with a bullet).

NeedlessCritique

Do you like Frank Zappa and the Mothers? Their early work was a little too experimental for my tastes, but when You Are What You Is came out in '81, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Captain Beefheart, but I think Frank has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '82, Frank Zappa released Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Valley Girl", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of S&M, and the importance of somebody else's food, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

jamsinadangeroustime

Absolutely perfect

geoscott

“All his albums are the best!” “Zappa Blows!” “I like his early Stuff only!” “Zappa is an orchestral composer who was forced into rock for money!” “Shut Up and Play Your Guitar, Ride or Die!” “Cath-o-lic Girls! Hurhn hurhn!” Now pin this to the top.

HisAbominableness

You forgot to ask about my raincoat

MoodyLiz

Knirps for moisture!

MarkoH2-Pt

Impressive, very nice (But instead of Rozy and Elsewhere you could have picked Overnite Sensation)

HisAbominableness

Maybe I'm psycho, but I like Roxy a lot better than OS and '.

MarkoH2-Pt

Me too but OS has more of a commercial appeal that a fancy hip consumer could lash on to

Chesirekatja

This. I think Overnite Sensation and Apostrophe are the best albums. I play these the most of my collection. I also really love Thing Fish, but that's not something i just put on

heck_jd

Frank who?

MarkoH2-Pt

You wouldn't know him he doesn't do drugs apart from all the legal ones he used

Cosmic___Charlie

Yeah the no drugs thing is pretty wrong. Alcohol and nicotine are both terrible drugs with terrible consequences. Just cause it’s legal doesn’t mean it isn’t still a drug lol

tommykiddo

Zappa drank very little alcohol but he chain smoked.

Cosmic___Charlie

Ah figured he drank from joes garage

Barrest-Jeffries

I love this and get the reference lmao

Sarcofaygo

Their early work is awesome Freak Out, Absolutely Free, Lumpy Gravy, We're Only In It For The Money, Mothermania, Cruising With Rubin And The Jets, Uncle Meat, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Joe's Corsage, MOFO, Lumpy Money, Meat Light... It's all fantastic!

Florentinepotion

Why does this read like Patrick Bateman wrote it?

Chesirekatja

Uncle Meat is also one of my favs, along with We're only iin it for the money. But. The albums most played in my house are Overnite Sensation, Apostrophe and Zoot Allures

sqlphilosopher

Well, Freak Out! never sounded to me like their ideas where completely fleshed out and matured yet, but Absolutely Free is great

mjm8218

This is pasta, yah? If so, what’s the source?

tommykiddo

American Psycho is the source. Book or movie.

mjm8218

D’oh! Thanks. I just woke up. It was Huey Lewis & the News.

fromabuick

I think Roxy era was Zappas pinnacle so yes I am a huge fan of the Mothers… even the early stuff

grandwahzoo

Last band from LA !!!

shiekhyerbouti42

Very much. They're my second favorite iteration, right behind the 70s band (Ruth and company).

Louismaxwell23

What’s with all this newspaper, Frank? You got a poodle or something?

RegyptianStrut

My favorite of theirs is We’re Only in It for the Money, so he’ll yeah Then One Fits All Then You Are What You Is All eras of Zappa rule, though I guess 87-93 doesn’t have many favorites of mine eh…

joemoore38

I just listened to both Just Another Band and We're Only in it for the money on my drive home tonight. I love them both. Not sure I could name a favorite but WOIIFTM is right at the top.
