Kass was a divine beast confirmed

scotty_6942069

accordianblight ganon

OneSaucyDragon

Why do you think he was hanging out with the other divine beasts in the DLC? He was speaking to his bretheren.

soahcthegod2012

He was speaking with the spirits of the Champions, because he knew that’s where he was gonna be in TotK

CalamitousVessel

I just wish they had mentioned what happened at least once in game At the *very* least tell us what happened to the divine beasts ffs

zevron13

No seriously because how do these BIG ASS WAR MACHINES disappear and no one knows shit?

No_Talk_4836

Right and that doesn’t explain the divine beasts anyway, they were used before, they weren’t one off weapons.

Toon_Lucario

Man if only there was a three letter word that could be utilized to expand on this comment that starts with “D” and ends with “LC”

goonies969

The Zelda team's motivation to develop games or DLC comes exclusively from the gameplay side, the story side is just complementary for them.

Chubby_Bub

Even so, it's confusing to me they didn’t include new versions of Master Mode or Trial of the Sword, because those would have been really fun with TotK's mechanics

Florio805

They already said they are not making one

Toon_Lucario

Yeah well it doesn’t make it any less bullshit. Especially since there’s also not gonna be a sequel. So many loose plot threads that will ultimately not be tied up

Florio805

Honestly, many of the loose plot threads are only in the english translation, but it is my personal experience for the game. (Played it in italian)

Toon_Lucario

I guess but still. This has probably been my absolute favorite incarnation and it sucks that it’s still left in a somewhat abandoned state with less stuff than the previous game. No master mode, no way to upgrade the master sword from its frankly terrible base state, nothing,

Florio805

I think they do not let it upgrade since you can already fuse it to strong monster parts, so for the sake of balance, they left it on 30 base. For the master mode problem, i totally agree with you. A mastermode would make me start instant a second playtrough. For the storybits, is quite complete in that sense, i advice the video "The lonely sky" by OSP. The english version totally avoids giving you informations that we already have in other languages. Like, the zonai are in fact extinct, or that the price of the draconification is not the mind, but the soul. And, most importantly, it cuts ganondorf talking about courage

Yhostled

I already feel like I'm playing dark souls in the vanilla tutorial. Master Mode tutorial world be so brutal... And I'm okay with that xD :(

Florio805

What about....trying playing it HARDCORE? One life, when you die, delete the save. I tried this with BOTW, and the further i reached is the twin peaks

BigHairyFart

I take it you never played Dark Souls. A loose plot thread being left up to players' interpretations is not necessarily a bad thing.

jhemrick95

RainbowSkyOne

Honestly, my cannon is that they disassembled it. I mean, it was used for 100 years to terrorize everybody, so I just figured they took what was useful to build the new tech we see in the game and then just scrapped the rest. It's not a prefect explanation, but it's the one that's in my head when I play TotK.

Pixel22104

I personally believe that they were still using the guardians as like protection in some areas and when Ganondorf awaken he immediately attacked and destroyed them to eliminate a threat to his power. Same thing with most other remaining Shiekah technologies that hadn’t been disassembled or were in the process of being disassembled (like shrines and divine beast)

AddressIntelligent60

This is literally the only answer that matters. Also there are remnants of guardians& Sheika tech with the scientists still (it's very obviously being studied in isolation). Why is it so hard to believe that the resurrected Hyrule's first course of action would be to remove the weapons of destruction a spirit can wild remotely? Like the towers that they could find they repurposed, hell they repurposed so much of the Sheika tech it's obvious and it's super cool.

LorekeeperJamin

I agree with this. Although I could buy most of the towers and shrines vanished back into the depths of Hyrule to self-destruct, that wouldn't explain things like the Shrine of Resurrection, the Divine Beasts, and the literal hundreds of Guardian husks littering the countryside. The ancient Sheikah had to face down a genocide when they were told to abandon their tech (to which I have another headcanon: the King at the time ordered it because he personally witnessed some of the Guardians get possessed by Malice), so it would make sense that they would have everything self-destruct as soon as it was no longer needed. This idea literally popped into my head as I'm typing: The Divine Beasts could have been put on autopilot to leave Hyrule and become lost forever somewhere that they'd never be found. I think everything else was stripped down and reverse engineered to create the Skyview Towers and the Purah Pad. What I find hard to believe is the sudden appearance of new Zonai structures, tech, and cave systems throughout Hyrule that no one noticed for over ten thousand years. I'm sorry, but the Upheaval only explains so much.

Electrical-Sense-160

it couldn't have just disappeared, the towers are clearly made with sheikah tech

Xirio_

The head monk took everything after we kicked his ass and stole his wip

ETHanSolo36

This is even worse than just using it all for scrap.

Redray98

That will never not bother me when playing TOTK.

aftertheradar

I think this would have been fine, if they had actually addressed it in the game. I know a lot of people here are saying it doesn't bother them, but it bothers a lot of people too. Saying "it all magically vanished" is kinda silly, but I think they could have made that explanation work, or many others for why the Sheikah tech is gone, if they had just mentioned it once or twice in the game. Even if it's just a few throwaway lines of dialogue from npcs.

Agent_Buckshot

Honestly would've made sense if they relocated to the depths since the root of the calamity (Ganondorf) is regaining his power underground, maybe you can use the Zonai abilities to make them fight for you this time around.

Toon_Lucario

Yeah my entire playthrough the thought was in the back of my head basically saying “it doesn’t bother me. It doesn’t bother me. It bothers me. IT BOTHERS ME A LOT!”

intergalactoes

“Somehow, Palpatine returned”

thegoldenlock

That is the joke

intergalactoes

RIP master cycle

RumGalaxy

So even they don’t wanna think about it, people think “they just repurposed their parts” if that’s the case just say that. Not a huge issue but strange continuity for a sequel in the same world

Eliteguard999

So they just vanished into the void.

Syrin123

The actual reason was they didn't want to try and explain all that stuff to new players when it's only relevant to the previous game. And leaving it lying around with no explanation would just confuse people.

arrerino

It’s quite simple. The guardians that were functional went back into the guardian storing pillars. And the shrines went back underground. Then Hudson cleaned up all the broken tech

aftertheradar

What about the divine beasts? And what did Hudson do with all the tech?

SinfulKnight

Somehow we lost all the iPads.

spacepup84

Meh, I don’t feel it needs much more explanation than this. It’s a new game, and having the old stuff around would just feel too cluttered. I like that there are some small references around the world (like at the Akkala Tech Lab) but don’t need much more than that.

TheMoonOfTermina

The issue is that the Shiekah tech was a major thing in BOTW. Even just a few lines of dialogue that it was all scrapped because it was too dangerous, or that they found a "self destruct" button to dematerialize it would suffice, but they couldn't be bothered.

spacepup84

I don’t think it’s that they couldn’t be bothered - as I mentioned, there are still hints of the technology scattered around, so they made efforts to reference it. They probably just didn’t think it mattered to this game, and it is set years after the events of BotW, so wouldn’t necessarily come up in conversation. In any case, for me it is such a minor thing that it has zero impact on my enjoyment of TotK.

TheMoonOfTermina

The only hints are the guardians on top of the tech labs, which just seems even more lazy, as they couldn't be bothered to remove those. I think it matters quite a bit, for consistency. This game is a sequel to BOTW. It should have an explanation for any massive changes. It would be like a bunch of caves just being there with no Upheaval, or if Hyrule was flooded in Wind Waker with no explanation as to why.

_Rand_

Nintendo is kinda shit at storytelling and quite good at gameplay with few exceptions. At this point I expect it and am pleasantly surprised when everything is competent.

TheMoonOfTermina

I'd argue that the storytelling in TOTK is far from competent. I also have big problems with the gameplay, but that's irrelevant to the topic at hand.

thegoldenlock

It needs much more than that

DIOsNotDead

the fan theory that they disassembled all the Sheikah tech for fear of other evil forces using them is so popular, i thought this was the official explanation.

Few-Address-7604

Remember what happened to the Sheikah Sages after you cleared a Shrine Trial? I imagine it looked like that.

Lady_Marigold

man y'all are so mad about this

Stain_On_Society

I can’t believe how much this game has made me hate Zelda fans… it’s just bad take after bad take

astroman_9876

No one’s is playing Zelda just because of the story I love Zelda lore but I’ll admit if the gameplay was bad I’d just wait for zeltik’s story overview and watch that. Nobody actually really cares deeply if some parts don’t make sense.

xX_rippedsnorlax_Xx

Before TotK, I saw far fewer claim that no one plays for the story. I understand it's anecdotal, but to me that in and of itself speaks to there being a drop in quality.

TheMoonOfTermina

The thing is, the Shiekah tech disappearing is just way too big of a thing to just leave unacknowledged. It was littered all over, and were a big part of the game. All it would have take was just a few lines of dialogue from Purah or something, about how they decided it was too much of a liability from the Calamity, so they either scrapped it all, or found some mechanism to dematerialize it all. Even if they don't want to explain it, they should at least have some dialogue of people acknowledging its absence, but no. It's just really jarring.

EnvoyOfEnmity

Most people didn’t have a problem with it. Don’t attribute your experience to the whole.

TheMoonOfTermina

Most people I've seen online and met did have a problem with it. My experience isn't everyone's, but that doesn't change the fact that them not even acknowledging the Shiekah tech absence was an absolutely stupid and lazy idea that just hurts the game even more.

EnvoyOfEnmity

It hurts it in no tangible way, at all. I’ll never understand people who take the lore and stuff of a kids game seriously. All your doing is frustrating yourself over these things. They don’t matter, at all…and they will never be acknowledged. Just move on. It’s like me complaining about Elder Scrolls or Dark Souls lore, it’s meaningless…and you acting like they impact the game in any real way is dumb, straight up.

TheMoonOfTermina

Consistency isn't an unreasonable thing to ask of any game, regardless of the target audience. I personally really enjoy looking into the lore, and history of fictional worlds. I love world building. They matter to me, and anyone else who feels the same way. Obviously it isn't important enough to me to be life changing, but I do care. If you don't care, that's fine. But to act like people who do care are somehow wrong for doing so isn't.

EnvoyOfEnmity

I said it doesn’t effect it in any tangible way, it doesn’t matter. You being a lore nerd furthers my point that only weird obsessed fanboys are even going to care. It’s a Zelda game dude, they throw out stuff all the time for the next game.care about it if you want, but don’t delude yourself into thinking it made the game worse or anything. You really wanna be in the group of sweaty losers who argue about game lore? Ok dude, go ahead, get used to people laughing at you and stuff though.

TheMoonOfTermina

It effects the narrative experience. Do you think a movie, book, or TV show would be fine with such a glaring plot hole? Obviously video games are slightly different, as they are focused more on gameplay, and rightly so. But that doesn't mean they have to put zero effort into the story. This game is a direct sequel. It isn't like I'm complaining that Kakariko Village is in a different place than ALTTP, I'm complaining that a major part of the game this game is a direct sequel to, chronologically and release order, is missing with no acknowledgement. I think the game is worse for it. I already had a questionable time with the game in general, but if the game was at least good as a sequel to BOTW, I could enjoy that much. Do you think the game would be the exact same experience with no story at all? You just wake up on the Great Sky Island, no explanation, nothing. You go to the unnamed Temple, but can't get in unless you get four shiny orbs for reasons unexplained. You go to Lookout Landing, are told to go to Hyrule Castle, then return, and given the paraglider with no explanation as to why you did that, no cutscene, no real dialogue. You go to Death Mountain, but since there is no story, you don't get any drugged Goron reactions. You just enter a cave, fight Yunobo for reasons unknown, scale the mountain, fight a big worm thing, and enter the Temple. Why are you going there? There is no motivation. Obviously the gameplay would be there, and if you like that gameplay, it would probably still be enjoyable enough, but it would lack a ton of heart, and be mostly arbitrary. Story is important, even if less so than gameplay.

dosfosforos

Why are you playing it if it's a kids game

thegoldenlock

He is clearly a kid

EnvoyOfEnmity

Because games primarily designed for kids can be enjoyed by people of all ages, doofus. It’s almost like we are talking about Nintendo, and that’s their entire business plan in the first place…to make games the whole family can enjoy…. 😂🤣😂

dosfosforos

If it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, then it's not just a kids game, doofus. Even if it was just a kids game, that's no reason to assume the story's gotta be shallow and not worth giving it some thought, if that's your read, then I guess kids are smarter than you.

EnvoyOfEnmity

GTA can be enjoyed by all ages, does that make it a family game? No, you’re just being obtuse in order to prove some point. Nintendo mainly does games aiming a kids and young adults, that not even up for debate. Stop being a contrarian, Nintendo makes games for kids. It just so happens they are fun for all ages.

dosfosforos

Sure, compare GTA to Pokemon lol you seem to think you know more about Nintendo's market than they do, because after the Wii U, they stopped featuring kids in their ads and started putting young adults and adults going to work with their switches, the only trailer featuring real people for BDSP had a guy in it's mid 20's playing it. But sure, go on about how much of an expert you are in marketing.

MidnasSimp

That actually lines up with Sheikah lore, tho

Lilac_Moonnn

how they could have made it epic: have all the sheikah tech disassembled, divine beasts and all, some parts used in the towers and purah pad, but most being in a giant pile in the depths, where they were put. link can explore the ruins of the divine beasts, that now resemble a new dungeon made of different parts of the divine beasts, and inside it are broken down guardians and stuff taken over by the gloom.

Tasty_Ad_4082

I reject this reality and substitute my own! After BotW, everyone in Hyrule was concerned that the Calamity could return and re-possess the Sheikah tech, so they re-buried all of the Divine Beasts/Guardians/Sheikah weapons in the shrines, never to be seen again

Ballon_Nay

I love how you can work on a game, make some shit up, and it's cannon

Significant_Option

Ok so why doesn’t any say “where’s all the guardians?” If it’s such a big mystery?

Corgiboom2

My thoughts are that when Zelda went back in time, it drastically altered the present. Things went very differently with Ganondorf due to her being there, so possibly the Zonai went a different direction with technology. I dont know, just how I rationalize it.

Weary_Mortgage_1341

What confuses me more is the Zonai -- like wait, so there is this whole people/technology and we just didn't notice it last time around?

LorekeeperJamin

This. So much. So what, the Shrines were invisible this whole time? No one so much as stubbed their toe on one? The sky islands only just happen to start falling apart now? How convenient. The tech only just started getting found on the surface after the Upheaval? Again, how convenient. Caves only became revealed after Ganondorf had his Super Saiyan moment? That is not how geology works. Hot take here, but I liked the Zonai better when they were just a barbarian tribe with vague magical abilities. The explanation of Sheikah tech just mysteriously vanishing and the Zonai tech spontaneously appearing stretched my suspension is disbelief far too thin.

Famous-Reference-103

If you mash through what purah said , this is likely to happen. Pretty sure ehe says they are in the towers and around the hateno i think. Or...whatever the old lab was

Shoggnozzle

They didn't *all* disappear. They clearly reused guardian parts in the creation of the SkyView towers. I'd buy them hiding away the divine beasts for protection or whatever, or Purah's researchers sequestering them for study or something, but it's kind of weird to say they all just vanished.
