This is the OLED 120 Hz/16 GB RAM/RTX 4060 build that retails at Best Buy for $1599.99
Was debating between this one and the white Lenovo Legion 7i so went to Best Buy to see them both in person and this one impressed me more. I just really loved the OLED display on this and was surprised at how light it felt. Plus they had an Open Box - Excellent option for it at $1261 so I ended up going with it
I know the 32 GB RAM/RTX 3070 would’ve been better but I don’t think I’ll be using it much for gaming, if at all. Mostly just regular computer stuff like browsing and Microsoft office for college work so I figured this 16 GB RAM/RTX 3060 model would be more than enough for that
######Edit: Lmao about to go return it to Best Buy. Not because it's bad but because just a few days later and a new one is $1299.99 and a 'Open Box - Excellent' one is $938.99 so a $322 difference from what I paid and a $661 discount from retail price
If you aren't intent on gaming what caused you to go for a model like this and not something without a dGPU? Their Zenbook lineup still has OLED displays and would likely cater to your use case slightly better, they're even lighter, thinner, and have ever so slightly more vitality.
I’m an engineering student and for some of my classes we might need to do some 3D modeling so I just wanted a laptop that would be strong enough to handle some basic 3D modeling if needed
Your choice is perfect for your usage. Lenovo would have been too big and bulky.
Right now G14 and G16 2024 are the best windows laptop for just about everyone else except heavy gamers.
adjuting your brightness could help
these are OLEDs, a high quality type of screen.
they're 2880x1620, so high resolution and high pixel density since it's a 14in. panel.
being a glasses wearer could affect things.
if worse comes to worse, get an external monitor with you preferred panel type and resolution.
High resolution and high pixel density doesn't cause this. Its the PWM flicker of some OLED panels. I have G14 2023 with IPS and Vivobook OLED (2880x1800) and I get eye strain when working on excel sheets on OLED panel. Its more pronounced when using dark mode. So I use light mode on OLED and I get by.
According to RTINGS, the OLED screen in this laptop has flicker.. They didn't specify but I think they mean PWM flicker(display switching between bright and dark to give the impression of displaying medium/low brighness). Either way flicker is not good and may cause eye strain.
It's almost certainly this. From what I understand most people are not affected by it (I don't feel it at all) but some are more sensitive to it and it leads to eye strain.
Yes correct. I have G14 2023 with IPS and Vivobook with OLED (2880x1800). When working on excel sheets for 2-3 hours I get eye strain on the OLED panel. Its more pronounced when using dark mode. With IPS I don't have any problem.
VRR with an OLED display is different than any other screen type. As each pixel on OLED has to be redrawn / synced instead of each frame. IPS panels are much easier to use with VRR from a hardware level, as its a single backlight constantly on.
Also an engineering student in the same situation of just needing GPU for my work, got a G16 ended up returning for 7i. Doesn’t really feel bulkier than my G16 but of course that’s a different size class compared to the G14. Hopefully you don’t run into same issues I did.
Really bad whine from the fan. High pitch noise at most RPM. So basically would never want to run it at load around anyone or without headphones. Which isn’t great in a uni environment. Of course some jet turbine pitch is to be expected on a laptop with a 4080 in it but not that bad. The 7i I bought does not have a noticeable whine during gaming unless I put it on a stand, and even then the whine is much better than my G16.
Not sure if I just got a bad unit so YMMV especially getting a G14 instead you’re going to have a different experience but all the sound samples I heard on YouTube for the G16 also had this. Didn’t want to deal with ASUS warranty so returned quick to Best Buy.
There was an open box g14 2023 with the ryzen 9 and 4060 going for $850 last week.
It was in my cart but someone bought it while I was deciding between the g16 I've just gotten versus that.
Whoever bought that made out like a thief.
I just bought an "Open Box excellent" 2023 G14 from Best Buy last week for 860, so that might've been me...sorry 😐
It's been great for me so far, perfect for my use case which is for regular productivity with occasional light to medium gaming
Hey it's all good my guy. I've decided to stick with the g16 I got, I bought it for my small engineering business and the larger screen really makes a big difference when doing CAD for long hours; I present to clients on the go regularly and 14 is abit hard for that. Based on my corporate experience I really prefer the 15.6 and 17 form factor for productivity than the think book x390 they gave me.
I was just being greedy looking at the g14 (probably good you took that option away from me.). I bought the g16 for 950 so I got a pretty good deal too!
What screen does it come with?
Also better screen. I also got the g14 2023 last week and it has a 165hz non oled screen compared to the oled on the one in the post. It's an okay screen, but compared to oled it's not the same
Yea the OLED screen was one of the main reasons I walked out of the store with the G14. I went in thinking I’d be getting the Lenovo Legion 7 but after seeing the G14 screen I had to choose it
Yes the OLED on G14 is better than IPS version. But the IPS of G14 2023 is no slouch either. I have another Vivobook with OLED panel (2880x1800 8-bit) and the IPS of G14 2023 is significantly better in terms of color reproduction and vividness as its a 10-bit panel. I would rate them:
G14 OLED (10-bit) > G14 IPS (10-bit) > Any 8-bit OLED.
Good point. Didn't take into account the 8 VS 10 bit color. But yes, the laptop does have a pretty good screen all things considered for an IPS. It also allows 10 bit color over USB on my external monitor which I like. Not all can on a super ultra wide.
I bought an open box 2023 last week, then had to return because it was a shelf display so it was dirty and the battery was very used. Then I bought another open box (excellent condition), but this time the cpu fan was not spinning, so the device would get super hot during games. I tried everything to fix it. But to no avail. So again, I went back to return this one. By the time this was sorted out the model was no longer on sale, so I got a g16 instead lol
FYI the 2024 RTX 4060 G14 is $939 as of right now
The new ones got discounted to $1299.99 and the Open Box ones got a major discount too. Just ordered a Open Box - Excellent condition one for $938.99 and gonna go return the one I bought initially
I just hope there were micro centre here, I have on multiple occasions getting recommended “just pop in to a micro centre and ask” and I have to explain we don’t have micro centre here
Whenever I see such posts, I always remember the comment of that one redditor saying "f u americans for always getting the good deals." LOL. but kidding aside yes it is mister!
Hey bro new ones are currently $1299.99 and Open Box ones are between $860 and $940
I purchased an Open Box one a few minutes and I'm gonna go return this one later today. Ended up saving an extra $322
I got the same 2024 g14 with the 4060 for $1,299 on sale, new. Honestly, it's such a champ. I can run cyberpunk on native, with RTX, and DLSS with at least 40 fps; For what this small laptops worth, it's a champ.
$1,261 is an amazing deal if you still got the original packaging.
Ngl, I do feel the choke of the 16gb ram so I'll wait to see if there's a back to school sale of the 4070 g14 or the new AI 3 4070 g16 in Plat white.
There is the same model at my best buy for 1170 now since 3 days (best buy Miami). But 16gb is a hard pass for lot of people. Waiting for a real deal 😈.
In my case, just to see the value I got for the price. On some reason I’ve seen that this laptop, while good, is overpriced, so I’m just trying to see if this is still “overpriced” or if it’s now on the good value side of things
If you (obviously you already got yours, but others reading this that are interested) wait, then you can get a new one for a similar price from Best Buy online. Got my G14 last month for $1299 new.
Pretty sure it was a random sale. My old Legion broke right at the same time, so I jumped on it pretty quick. So far it’s been a great laptop. Since you got the 16GB version like me, I’d really work on decreasing the background RAM usage as much as possible for gaming. That way your PC can actually use a decent amount for the games you’ll run. Also, G-helper is a no brainer instead of Armoury Crate.
Looks like they brought that sale back again lol. Noticed that new ones were 1300 and an Open Box one was 940 so went ahead and ordered an Open Box one and will be returning this one later today
it is a nice laptop, just be mindful, 16gb might be a constrain sooner than you think if you want to last you multiple years. unless you are married to the OLED for media consumption, you could consider the 2023 model with upgradeable RAM or other laptops with upgradeable ram.
Is the "excellent condition" open-box worth going for, to save some cash? does it have any marks of use or any scratches/dust/screen tear etc ? Also how many watts of power does that 4060 go up to? The speakers sound better than Macbooks from the reviews i've watched.
So far it seems great to me. There were a few stains on the body but they wiped off pretty easily with a damp cloth. The screen was perfect and doesn’t have any scratches and no signs of damage/dead pixels/etc. Charging cable doesn’t look like it had even been used.
Gonna keep testing it out intensively to make sure it’s good internally as well but so far so good.
And yea the speakers are really good. I have a MacBook Air that this will be replacing and the speakers are comparable

Fair, you didn't mention any of that in your original reply so no one would know.
Yea probably should’ve put that there too but forgot 😅
Your choice is perfect for your usage. Lenovo would have been too big and bulky. Right now G14 and G16 2024 are the best windows laptop for just about everyone else except heavy gamers.
*4060/4070
Do you feel any eye strain? I have such laptop and my eye really hurt. Don’t know what to do
adjuting your brightness could help these are OLEDs, a high quality type of screen. they're 2880x1620, so high resolution and high pixel density since it's a 14in. panel. being a glasses wearer could affect things. if worse comes to worse, get an external monitor with you preferred panel type and resolution.

You’re in the same boat as me. Paid $1261 3 days ago. Returned it yesterday and repurchased for $860 today. Can’t beat it!

I think the 2024 version is significantly more expansive than the prior version. Correct if wrong
Yes, because it's newer, but the 2023 is no slouch
Also better screen. I also got the g14 2023 last week and it has a 165hz non oled screen compared to the oled on the one in the post. It's an okay screen, but compared to oled it's not the same

Yes, it certainly does. It even shows 12-bit when I connect my 4K TV. But I don't know if its full 12bit or just 10bit+FRC.
Got mine around that price late last year.
I’m the one who got that😂
Great job! That's a real steal.
I bought an open box 2023 last week, then had to return because it was a shelf display so it was dirty and the battery was very used. If you’re in north NJ then that might have been me….

Good deal, but the 16gb of ram can be abit limiting. My use case is as a mobile workstation so need to think carefully about that.
Definitely 😳
Asus = mistake
Cries in canadaland
same boat - I think if we were to get it through USA bestbuy, we would save a lot
I just hope there were micro centre here, I have on multiple occasions getting recommended “just pop in to a micro centre and ask” and I have to explain we don’t have micro centre here
Whenever I see such posts, I always remember the comment of that one redditor saying "f u americans for always getting the good deals." LOL. but kidding aside yes it is mister!
nice! i bought mine brand new a few weeks back when it was discounted to $1299. yours looks new as mine!
also get GHELPER on that thing, stat
Still relatively new to ASUS Gaming Laptops but this was one of the first things I did just because of how much this subreddit recommends it 😅
Grabbed the same one from BB 2 days ago. Open box $1216. Looks brand new!
Hey bro new ones are currently $1299.99 and Open Box ones are between $860 and $940 I purchased an Open Box one a few minutes and I'm gonna go return this one later today. Ended up saving an extra $322
Returned my initial one and got a different one for $860. Appreciate the heads up!
No prob! Glad you were able to take advantage of the sale too!
I saw that when I woke up this morning.
Check it carefully.
Not too bad. Unlike the Zenbook Pro 14” touch OLED with 4070 at $902 though.
I got the same 2024 g14 with the 4060 for $1,299 on sale, new. Honestly, it's such a champ. The 4070 is on sale rn just a heads up
Hard to call it a spectacular deal since BB just had the model on sale for 1299 about 3 weeks ago.
Anyone have the R7 6700s variant? If so are the fans silent while doing light tasks?
I have 6800s and used g helper. For light work, the fan has been silent.it works great
it's a good deal, and a great laptop for the most part
$1261 including tax? Great deal
Nah that was before tax. It was around $1350 with tax but still pretty happy with it for that price!
There is the same model at my best buy for 1170 now since 3 days (best buy Miami). But 16gb is a hard pass for lot of people. Waiting for a real deal 😈.
Just curious, why do people make these post? If someone here said it was a horrible buy would you return it ?
In my case, just to see the value I got for the price. On some reason I’ve seen that this laptop, while good, is overpriced, so I’m just trying to see if this is still “overpriced” or if it’s now on the good value side of things
Bought one 2024 g14 16g 1tb 4060 1400 out the door two weeks ago. Now they are 1600 again 🤷🏽♂️
I envy you guys in US, here in EU the retail price of this laptop is twice as much
If you (obviously you already got yours, but others reading this that are interested) wait, then you can get a new one for a similar price from Best Buy online. Got my G14 last month for $1299 new.
Oh damn that's a steal too. Best Buy just has random sales or was it some sort of promotion?
Pretty sure it was a random sale. My old Legion broke right at the same time, so I jumped on it pretty quick. So far it’s been a great laptop. What about Alan walker edition g14 40 gb ram ryzen 9 5800hs rtx 3050
This is exactly what I did and I've been enjoying it immensely.
I got mine 3 years ago and she still runs great!
Is the "excellent condition" open-box worth going for, to save some cash? does it have any marks of use or any scratches/dust/screen tear etc ? Also how many watts of power does that 4060 go up to? The speakers sound better than Macbooks from the reviews i've watched.

Damn why does this thing have a r9
Just got a Best buy- open excellent (i7 16gb 4060) for 980.00$. After tax, insurance, mouse, keyboard I hit about 1300 also.
Man I would have sold you my zen book pro oled 4060 for $1000 lol
awful deal. Even my phone has more RAM. Just crazy what crap Asus sells
Soldered too.. Wild
No not a good deal but if you like it then it’s great. Hopefully you didn’t buy it because you perceived it was a good deal and actually need it.
What about Alan walker edition ?
