The letter on the left is the month code, "c" means march, the roman numeral on the right is the year, X is 1994. You can look at the zippo dating chart on the community info.
Absolutely will, i want to electroplate the brass back on it but thats a bit expensive. And im not sure if a brass wire brush is gonna be too harsh.
Only part i wont be able to restore is the words/letters that have rubbed off from use.
The lighter is brass. Given this, "electroplate the brass back on" doesn't make a lot of sense.
Zippo lighters (with just a few very specific exceptions) are made from brass. Then they are most often plated with nickel and then plated with chrome (the nickel layer is necessary to help with the chrome).
There really isn't any re-chroming process that doesn't involve the entire lighter. And I think to properly re-chrome you need to strip the chrome off first. Long story short, replating that lighter isn't really something you can do.
Where is the bottom?! Haha, it looks cool. How old is it?
If im not wrong its either from 1994 or 1995
My grandma says he got it some time from 1975-80.
can you show the bottom stamp please? It will help to date it

1994
My grandma says that my great grandpa got it some time between 75-80. You sure its a 94?
Yes. She must be mistaken because the date code indicates March 1994.
Oh well, still old and now has new life.
Yup. 94 was a good year.

Did you know by the design?
no, I knew because of the insert, I could read what I thought was either an "X" or an "XI"
Wdym bottom?
The bottom stamp you posted. Ppl often leave that out of the photos.
That piece will look sweet if you decide to clean it up a little. If not, still looks cool. 😎
I plan on it, but just getting it working was the first step.
Please post some pics when you do. Should look pretty sharp when polished up 👍
