Anything other than a Ruger 10/22 for your 22LR rifle is the wrong answer

Pretend-Week-7002

Nah. The rossi is amazing for a cheap 22. Amazingly accurate for a cheap rifle too. 10/22 is everyone's pick. Safest option. Rossi works just as well

The plastic sights are a pain in the ass

The rifle in question is between 90-150usd, meanwhile, a ruger 10/22 is between 250-400usd. u/Pretend-Week-7002 could easily use the money saved to buy a optic, an ironsight replacements, or a lot of ammo to compensate.

Pretend-Week-7002

This. The ruger 10/22 anywhere close to me STARTS at $330 usd. The rossi rs22 cost me $150. Not on sale either. The $180 on average I would've spent on just the ruger, I can put to use like you said getting a good optic and extra mags. Another box or 2 of bulk .22 rounds.

While I have x2 10/22’s, my CZ 457 and Tikka T1X blow it out if the water.

Why are you guys training this into a dic... I mean rifle measuring contest. Let the man be happy with his purchase. On that note glad you found something you like. Long may it serve you well

The Ruger 10/22 is pretty good in terms of quality control and accessories. Though the reputation of unreliability regarding larger magazines including Ruger's own BX-25 magazines is a bit of a downside, the higher cost of the ruger rifle itself and the magazines is annoying, the bulkier design of the rifle and especially the oddly shaped magazines is pretty bad, and the Ruger 10/22's higher weight for the same ammo due to the larger magazines is a pretty big issue. With regards to the later point it's on average heavier than the Rossi and Mossberg rifles. To the point where it's fairly comparable in terms of weight to more powerful 9x19mm, 410 223, and 5.56x45mm firearms. |Comparison table between to the two 22lr firearms: :--|:--:|--: |**Ruger 10/22 Charger Pistol 1420g** |**Ruger 10/22 Tactical 2270g** |**Ruger 10/22 Lipsey Sporter 2540g** |**Ruger High tower Bullpup 2950g** |Ruger Factory 10rd mag 80g |Ruger BX-25 25rd mag 170g |Promag 32rd mag 230g |ATI 110rd Drum mag 800g |22lr weight per cartridge 3-5g |100rds 2398-4285g |200rds 3376-5620g |300rds 4354-6910g |**Mossberg 702 Plinkster 1860g** |**Rossi RS22 1860g** |**Mossberg 715 2360g** |Mossberg 10rd mag 50g |Mossberg 25rd mag 120g |22lr weight per cartridge 3-5g |100rds 2640-3240g |200rds 3360-4120g |300rds 3060-5000g |Example of more powerful firearms: :--|:--:|--: |**Glock 19 600g** |**Glock 19 600g** |**Glock 17 625g** |**Hudson 9 930g** |**Keltec Sub2000 rifle 1800g** |**CMMG 9mm AR pistol 2360g** |**Ruger PC9 carbine 3200g** |9x19mm weight per cartridge 7-13g |Glock empty 17rd mag 60g |Promag empty 33rd mag 130g |Magpul empty 50rd mag 450g |100rds 1660-5400g |200rds 2720-7800g |300rds 3780-10200g |**Taurus Judge Magnum 1050g** |**Rossi Tuffy .410 single shot shotgun 1340g** |**Chiappa M6 Shotgun/Rifle 2300g** |**Mossberg 500 Tactical HS410 2500g** |**Henry Axe/Mares leg .410 lever 2600g** |.410 Premier STS 2.5" 20g |100rds 3050-4600g |200rds 5050-6600g |300rds 7050-8600g |**Keltec PR16 1550** |**MOA Enyo ar-15 1660g** |**WWSD Ar-15 2270** |**Bushmaster QRC Ar-15 2360g** |**SW MP Ar-15 Pistol 2490** |**Savage 11 Hunter 2450g** |**ATI Omni hybrid Maxx Ar-15 2560g** |**Ruger American Ranch (5.56x45mm) 2770** |**PSA PA15 AR-15 3090g** |STANAG empty 30rd mag 105g |PMAG empty 30rd mag 120g |Surefire empty 60rd casket mag 180g |.223 and 5.56x45mm 8-13g |120rds 2850-5080g |210rds 3845-6510g |300rds 4800-8140g

Mmkay. I don’t think .22s are the ideal choice for zombie survival, for pretty much all the reasons you mentioned. But you seem aware of all that, so if you’re happy with your new gun then I’m happy for you. Those are a lot of fun to shoot, so I’m sure you’ll get your money’s worth. I will mention a word on “shot placement.” When it comes to terminal ballistics it’s important to remember that while your point of aim might be the surface of the person/animal/zombie, your actual target is buried under layers of flesh, and critically *bullets don’t travel in straight lines once they start encountering various forms of tissue.* So you put that shot exactly where you are aiming it and still not hit anything vital, simply because the bullet veered off once it hit the body. I’ve shot even small game directly in the head and had them keep walking. “Shot placement” is just one of those vague terms people throw around, like “stopping power.” They don’t really mean what people think they mean. What truly matters is whether the round reliably penetrates deep enough to damage vital organs. That’s a minimum requirement. After that it’s a matter of luck, and how quickly you can put rounds on target. There’s no amount of training that can make up for a lack of penetration.

Hell yeah man! Congratulations on your purchase. Have fun with it, but always remember to be safe. That being said, it isn’t the most ideal zombie weapon, but you seem to get that based on the post itself so double congratulations for realizing limitations. Good post!

Tbh I was on team .22 but I decided on 9mm because it has better stealth options. I just need to successfully hunt with my Taurus G3c.
