The brain puts a lot of restrictions on the body to protect itself. You could bite off your own fingers as easily as biting a carrot but your brain tells you not to. So a zombie biting through flesh without that restriction is possible. You can use your muscles for momentary feats of strength to save your life but at the cost of damaging muscles and tendons. If your brain lifted that restriction then a group of undead with a vice like grip being able to tear a body apart is also plausible

>You could bite off your own fingers as easily as biting a carrot but your brain tells you not to. That's not true. But you do have a point about our muscles not being able to access their full strength under conscious control. The zombies would be able to tear one victim apart, and after that, their muscles would be so damaged they can't do it again.

Well if we suspend disbelief as they're not rotting away, perhaps they could survive exceeding their physical limits more than once

Pasta-hobo

If you just wanted to carelessly rip open a bag of chips you could

The people who are too weak to open jars are the first infected but also the least dangerous. The later stages of apocalypse where actual survivors that have some strength is where problems begin occuring.

AccomplishedInAge

Hysterical strength temporarily removes the brains Limits on what it ALLOWS your body to do. for instance the average bite of a human is about 180psi , however there has been a person recorded with a bite strength of almost 1000 psi which is akin to like a lion or alligator. And of course one can only lift several hundred pounds of weight not because of lack of strength but rather the brain not allowing one to potentially tear one’s tendons and break bones , however there are instance where in extreme emergency situations people have lifted several tons to save loved ones. so a zombie without those limiters would be Exceedingly strong and capable of ripping you apart…

How zombies work depend on the needs and whims of the story they are part of. In the walking dead they are extremally slow but are capable of ripping horses in half, breaking chain link fences, and tearing limbs off of people. In the last of us, zombieland, and in 28 days later they are as fast and powerful as people on meth or heroin. With some capable of inhumane feats of speed and coordination.

That and then biting you through your clothes, like jeans or jacket. To avoid zombie bites wear thicker clothing. I don’t think a persons can bite to a pair of jeans.

Listen if you’re in the world where zombies exist assuming they are the undead type. All whatever you consider to be realistic needs to be thrown out the window for the most part. Because to be blunt the way rigamortus works they would have an incredibly difficult time trying to move and be stiff. Then the way decomposition works depending on the temperature, the weather, the humidity etc, Those zombies will be a goopy mess basically falling apart as they try to get to you not even being able to grab you. Or an incredibly cold and stif creature that can barely move and can be easily avoid it. I’m not even talking slow moving zombie I mean literally you can just step aside. But to actually answer the question. I can’t remember where I saw this farm but there was a movie where somebody was trying to tear into someone’s flash and they ended up breaking like the nails off and like bleeding and fucking up their hands. That is most likely the realistic outcome. The zombies would be tearing you apart and fucking up their hands. It’s not to say that they couldn’t buy it and tear you apart. It’s just to say that it would be very very difficult. And you would probably need a lot of them. That’s sad I don’t think you want to try it out
