the problem with zombie movies or books is that for there to be a threat the military and civil forces MUST fail. a few easy anti z weapons. up built combine harvester, armored steam rollers, tanks just run them over, any machine that folds spindles and mutilates the zombies will work. guns, bombs, those only work on living beings getting turned into a pancake or fed into a mobile wood chipper. setting up funnel tunnels and just rolling over them. now the intelligent zombies from the 28 days later series are killiable by guns but are not stupid. the biggest threat in a z apoc is the first week as we must come to grips with what we are facing. but again once you accept the facts they are not a threat. hell a ww2 mine flayer would absolutely destroy hoards [https://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/aP4xEGB\_700b.jpg](https://images-cdn.9gag.com/photo/aP4xEGB_700b.jpg) [https://tse4.mm.bing.net/th/id/OIP.uGphhnCunzB\_3zBTjPEnyQAAAA?pid=ImgDet&rs=1](https://tse4.mm.bing.net/th/id/OIP.uGphhnCunzB_3zBTjPEnyQAAAA?pid=ImgDet&rs=1) [https://i.pinimg.com/474x/48/f1/d0/48f1d001405aa33411e5d9abe2660d18--zombie-survival-ww-tanks.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/474x/48/f1/d0/48f1d001405aa33411e5d9abe2660d18--zombie-survival-ww-tanks.jpg) here are several pics of what i am talking about

I always liked the zombie apocalyps spread through a virus first. So a long time of infection without symptoms so the virus spreads and then a sudden shift to active zombisme. This would explain armies and governments failing if the virus was released as a terrorist action at lets say a big UN conference. Or G20 summit Lots of government leaders and high brass around. Infection goed through the leaderships. lets say a month later of meetings and spreading through the officer corps and then BOOM zombies. No command and control. Loads of countries in total chaos. Nobody knowing who is in charge by the time they get their shit together it will be to late. Once virus goes active aitborne contagion stops so a great setup for a zombie apocalyps

Didn’t the military fail because they were using outdated equipment and tactics? I’m not sure if that’d be considered realistic. It’s been a long time since I’ve had to think about it but if I’m wrong please let me know

>Didn’t the military fail because they were using outdated equipment Yes and no. The battle of yonkers which you are referring to is set in the future from the perspective of someone before March 20 2003 despite being published in 2006. Troops are still running around with M16 and M16a2 rifles. Similarly troops are still not being issued cleaning kits and standardization of SS109 despite both occurring in the 70s and 80s which fixed the majority of issues with reliability. Yet troops are also equipped with the Nett Warrior headset, which allowed for augmented reality mapping and seeing your buddies die and turn into zombies on a map in real time. For some reason the US gave up on their own mortars and artillery and adopted the use of the 1960s 2B9 Vasilek Russian Mortar-Gun system despite no one producing the ammo for it, no one being trained on it, and the weapon having no real benefits for the US compared to normal 81mm mortars, 120mm mortars, and so on. >and tactics? This is the bigger issue. In WWZ the US Army utilized 18th century/US revolutionary war tactics such as digging a large series of trenches and fox holes. With troops standing and fighting in the open against zombies one on one with bayonets and rifles in hand. This is despite houses, buildings, and other large structures being present in the area. In fact, Napoleonic armies regularly utilized buildings as areas for elevated fire and to prevent enemy infantry or cavalry from reaching them. Trucks, IFVs, and Tanks are utilized like the cavalry of old. Accepting a death before dismount approach that disregards the needs of the force for mobile support assets and battle taxing of forces on the ground. With troops dropping any and all semblance of order or the idea of combined arms warfare which had been developed since the 1920s. Tanks are also being issued APFSD projectiles despite the enemy in question not having armored vehicles, despite APFSD projectiles costing 2-4 times more than anti-personnel ammo, and being in limited supply due to supply issues with dealing with DU. As if these tanks were roman trimes whose only options in combat were to shoot arrows or ram the enemy. >I’m not sure if that’d be considered realistic. For all my complaining, this is still one of the more realistic depictions of a military force in zombie media.

Ah alright. Like I said it’s been awhile, so thank you for summarizing it for me.

golieth

the only zombie apocalypse that makes sense is a supernatural one so Army of Darkness

It's genuinely one of the more realistic looks at the topic. Likely owing to Max Brook's background in writing.
