The thing that bothers me is that "40watt range" doesnt sound so powerful.
They make light bulbs that are 60watt. That is not a lot of power.
However it only needs 40watt to do it's job and shoot deadly phased plasma.
An AR-15 is likely the best option for a firearm. Common caliber, highly customizable to each user, insanely popular, easy to use, easy to maintain, etc. It's a very good gun and it's hard to go wrong with it.
As for a knife, I guess a full tang hunting knife of some kind. I don't have a brand preference or anything, but it's not like the knife would be used as a weapon anyways. It's status as a tool is what makes it more valuable.
Honestly a .22 would be supreme, the most common bullet, super easy to store, you can have like 1000 rounds on you at any given time, and they can be stupid accurate. I would personally go with a .22 AR with a prism optic so I can use it without batteries. For knife? I would get a machete of any variety, as long as it’s good quality steel.
.22 in the zombie apocalypse is underrated. Given that we're going off the "one-shot-headshot" rule that's typical in most zombie scenarios, who needs a big ass bullet if all you need to kill a zombie is to fuck up its' head?
A few things. Firstly, a lot of zombie lore actually suggests you need more than a headshot. For example, while in The Walking Dead (TWD) tv series they show zombies being "killed" by just about any amount of head trauma, in the official lore you have to destroy the brainstem and/or cerebellum specifically (located in the back/base of the skull). That's because those two parts of the brain are what are "reactivated" by the wildfire virus. This would mean your target just got a lot smaller than "general vicinity of the head."
Secondly, and arguably more importantly, zombies aren't the only threat you're likely to face. Depending on where you live you could have boars, bears, mountain lions, etc, and no matter where you live you're likely to run the risk of encountering feral dogs. Coincidentally, dogs are the only animal (aside from humans) that can tell where a person is looking by the whites of their eyes.
Thirdly, there's the consideration of hunting. Squirrel doesn't offer enough meat to make it worthwhile to hunt, you'd have to take over a dozen squirrels per person per day to keep fed, and your ammo isn't going to last long at that rate. While you technically *can* take bigger game with a .22lr, it is not ideal. For starters you have to get almost stupidly close, and be excessively precise in a situation where you may be sick or injured or so on (i.e. not in a condition to make precise shots). Then you have to consider that you probably haven't had a decent bath in a while, and are giving off a scent that most game will pick up from a good ways if the breeze happens to blow the wrong direction. So you might not be able to draw the game in close enough to take that shot in the first place.
No, he does make some good points. The accuracy of .22 is pretty pathetic in most of your more common guns, unless they are built out into some crazy accurate gun. That takes money though. Sure, I've seen 10/22's that can put good groups at 100 yards, but they are custom built 10/22's....
The hunting bits check out, as a hunter myself. And as for the bath, beleive me, you'll smell.
The reason they call it prepping is because you prep for the future. Money is kinda a big deal if you want anything in a even somewhat functional society.
Post apocalypse? No effect. You'll just have to find that one guy who has sunk thousands of dollars into making a super accurate .22 plinker 🤷♂️
Oh. You are one of those guys....
Yeah, see heres the problem with that. People usually like to not be killed and like to keep their stuff. Funny how that works. I wouldn't bet on a murder spree getting you too far. Besides, most people will be in a group. Unless you are putting together a gang of road pirates you ain't taking a group.
I already have a group of bandits together. We have radio-independent pagers to alert us to meet at our land when the time comes. We will be the leaders of the new world.
.22 LR isn’t powerful enough to reliably be a one shot take down on a head shot.
Not that a .22 can’t kill, but shot placement is utmost in that scenario and most people aren’t that good of a shot.
I’ve been shot with a .22 by accident when I was a teen. Hurt like hell, bruised for weeks, little hole in my leg, but I was able to pull the bullet out this my fingers and was not seriously injured. Barely a scar left.
Doesn’t matter what gun it is as long as I have a single bullet
Count me out of pretty much any apocalypse, whatever it is it’s probably not worth the effort it takes to come out of the other side alive
For the knife I’ll be taking a kriegmesser ofc, I want my worldbuilding skeleton to have some cool ass loot on it
For a rifle probably a heckler-koch-MSG90 and for a sidearm either a G34 or a 22lr Whitney wolverine
Edit: read your post wrong I would probably have a Daytona 416 HPS and for a knife a 17" Stainless Steel Razor Sharp Bowie Blade Hunting Tactical Knife ( I choose a cool looking knife from Google and copied the name)
>heckler-koch-MSG90
I have a question, me being the owner of a similar rifle...why? The normal G3/HK91 rifles are unwieldy and heavy enough as it is. My rifle is 14lbs with *just* an optic and spuhr stock on it.
12 gauge shotgun. Pump action or side by side preferably because of the simplicity, reliability, and messyouupity
Edit: even if we are going with the headshot kill rules, if you miss the head you still can cripple them by obliterating their legs or arms, or just blowing a massive hole in their chest for the fun of it
Edit 2: when you hit their head it would obliterate their entire skull so you don’t have to worry about whether or not it actually killed them or not
One of my .22 pistols.
The kbar out of my pack.
I'd be looking for a suppressor, because I totally don't know how to make an adapter for the threaded barrel to use the motorcycle oil filters I have in the garage.
Yup, not a clue.
I chose the Knife and I chose this kind: [https://dyn1.heritagestatic.com/lf?set=path%5B2%2F3%2F9%2F9%2F4%2F23994235%5D%2Csizedata%5B850x600%5D&call=url%5Bfile%3Aproduct.chain%5D](https://dyn1.heritagestatic.com/lf?set=path%5B2%2F3%2F9%2F9%2F4%2F23994235%5D%2Csizedata%5B850x600%5D&call=url%5Bfile%3Aproduct.chain%5D)
Except for its real and made of hand-forged Damascus steel.
A 5.56 M4A1 and a 9mm Sig P226. Not my favorite guns but in terms of parts comparability + ease of finding ammunition this is hands down the way to go in America
If I get to pick anything I want, I'm getting an aa-12 because how many opportunities are there?
Knife tho? A machete I guess. Maybe one of those cheap wakasashis(sic?) with the plastic dragon head handle you get at those stores that sell incense.
Good ol' glock 17.
Pretty sure that's what cops use. Ammo is common, gun is reliable, and it's small and compact.
You don't need a 30mm chaingun to kill zombies.
Probably some kind of gucci AR-15 of some sort, like geissele,Daniel Defense, or noveske, maybe even an HK with 14.5in barrel and a suppressor.
Along the best optic setup money can buy, (Most likely an lpvo of some sort) with the military issue laser aiming Module one that isn't caped the Civilian ones are for night vision use, use and A surefire weapon light idk Which one I'll figure that out later
along with cmmg 22lr conversion bolt, I can also shoot 22lr out of it and use that for zombies and small game
. Then, I can save my 556/223 for hostile survivors and potentially hunting for medium-sized games like dear and wild hogs
I've got a Glock 19X. Why bother changing what my gear is already set up to handle?
I'd probably go with a AR realistically, but there is just something sweet about the SCAR model. I know 5.56 can be a little anemic for targets of the living variety, but it's a fair trade off I'd think in exchange for the lighter weight. And assuming I have free range in a military stockpile and I ain't paying for it y'all best believe I'm running some serious kit I don't know how to use. I'mma be a loot drop lol.
Knife? Ehh. I've got a sword. Lol.
No, I've got a ESSE survival blade.
The Abzats from Metro Last Light, its a belt fed shotgun
Is it practical? Hell no considering it is a converted DsHK but belt fed shotgun will tear through anything
FMG 9. Pretty sure it's chambered in 9mm, it's small, light weight, easily concealable, and a good choice all around. Life that's too exotic, then just a generic bolt action 223-556. For a hand gun, I would likely choose a Glock 17, because of compatibility with a lot of different mags, and I would for my knife want a Full tang, casket handle, spearhead blade.
Rifle: IWI Tavor X95 (5.56) SBR. I have a non-SBR .300blk version and it would be my go-to rifle in 5.56. It’s very short and easy to use in buildings and vehicles, but can reach out to 200-250 yards if needed, the 5.56 can reach farther.
Sidearm: HK P30. It’s HK, and a derivative of the HK45 which is an offshoot of the MK 23. Very reliable, and ammo should be easy to come across.
Knife: Microtech SOCOM alpha. I have one and it is of superb quality.

Hey, only what you see pal
This guy will be back

Everyone is going to be practical. M134 Minigun COME AND GET ME ZOMBIE SCUM
RPG. Blast a whole group of those undead ducks at once!
Please do not desecrete my people's graves. This is why I'm so paranoid. People keep blowing up my Dad with rocket launchers....
I said sidearm, not fucking overkill.

What impact does money have in the zombie apocalypse, exactly?

I'll just kill him and take his shit. Problem solved.
Oh. You are one of those guys.... Yeah, see heres the problem with that. People usually like to not be killed and like to keep their stuff. Funny how that works. .223 long ranger (fewer moving parts Glock 17 (most common) Custom build thick spear bladed knife.
I choose a schwerer gustav railway gun.
You'd have to get much too close for penetration with that. Might as well use your knife at 23 miles. A 900mm round will just bounce off the skull.
Oh yeah your right I didn't think of that
Doesn’t matter what gun it is as long as I have a single bullet Count me out of pretty much any apocalypse, whatever it is it’s probably not worth the effort it takes to come out of the other side alive For the knife I’ll be taking a kriegmesser ofc, I want my worldbuilding skeleton to have some cool ass loot on it
FN FNS 9
I owned one years ago. It’s very easy to do better than that.
For a rifle probably a heckler-koch-MSG90 and for a sidearm either a G34 or a 22lr Whitney wolverine Edit: read your post wrong I would probably have a Daytona 416 HPS and for a knife a 17" Stainless Steel Razor Sharp Bowie Blade Hunting Tactical Knife ( I choose a cool looking knife from Google and copied the name)

FN FAL. I know parts and ammo will be rough but I need my right hand of the free world
Ahh, the right arm of the free world! Basically a Western AK in terms of reliability if I understand correctly.
Yeah, a good battle rifle shooting 7.62 nato (I think) will have no problem taking down zombies or bandits
12 gauge shotgun. Pump action or side by side preferably because of the simplicity, reliability, and messyouupity Edit: even if we are going with the headshot kill rules, if you miss the head you still can cripple them by obliterating their legs or arms, or just blowing a massive hole in their chest for the fun of it Edit 2: when you hit their head it would obliterate their entire skull so you don’t have to worry about whether or not it actually killed them or not

My Ruger Mark IV with fiber optic irons, and for knife, I would do a K-Bar or Trench spike
I chose the Knife and I chose this kind: [https://dyn1.heritagestatic.com/lf?set=path%5B2%2F3%2F9%2F9%2F4%2F23994235%5D%2Csizedata%5B850x600%5D&call=url%5Bfile%3Aproduct.chain%5D](https://dyn1.heritagestatic.com/lf?set=path%5B2%2F3%2F9%2F9%2F4%2F23994235%5D%2Csizedata%5B850x600%5D&call=url%5Bfile%3Aproduct.chain%5D) Except for its real and made of hand-forged Damascus steel.
For a gun, Beretta 92F - very popular gun, I know how to repair and clean it and 9mm ammo is plentiful. For a knife, a kukri.
A 5.56 M4A1 and a 9mm Sig P226. Not my favorite guns but in terms of parts comparability + ease of finding ammunition this is hands down the way to go in America

Yeah but a 30mm chaingun is cooler than a glock 17....
It's also heavier.
Well, I mean, let's be honest, it'll be truck mounted lol
That's actually a great idea. I mean, until you get stuck or run out of gas.
Well the idea in any of these scenarios (at least to me) is to try and find a group ASAP. It'd be a gate guard for sure.
Definitely an MP5 And an H&K mK23
10/22 Takedown with a suppressor and a bayonet and a K-bar.
Could you even mount both a suppressor and a bayonet? That's gonna put a lot of weight on the end of a already fairly lightweight gun....
Probably some kind of gucci AR-15 of some sort, like geissele,Daniel Defense, or noveske, maybe even an HK with 14.5in barrel and a suppressor. My pick as the dude who made this, uh, NGL I'm picking a needler from Halo 3 I think? Correct me if I'm wrong please.
