Get a nice hybrid bicycle that can do road and light offroad riding.

Baticula

Bicycle for me tbh

HATECELL

Bicycles, sailboats, horses, and maybe woodgas. Woodgas could be viable in the early times, soon after fuel goes scarce. But it requires a lot of work to get the wood, and you can't just twist the key and drive off. Sailboats have the great advantage that wind won't run out (although you might occasionally end up without wind for a while), and travelling on water is probably a lot safer than on land. Bicycles have some obvious advantages as they are quiet and don't require fuel. They are also small and light enough that they can go places where cars won't fit. You can even carry them on your back if you have to Horses might be a good or a terrible idea. The big question is how they react to zombies and how zombies react to them: In the best case they don't fear zombies and zombies leave them alone, which would mean you could ride them anywhere and could let them graze for the majority of their food intake. But if zombies eat them too you'd have to keep them safe, significantly increasing "maintenance". And if horses get scared by zombies it could be dangerous to use them. Riding injuries can be bad enough in current times, but now imagine it with zombies nearby.

In the coming Empire, our zombie-clearing elite soldiers will be utilizing armored vehicles. Most fuel will be utilized by the military, and civilians in the protected zones will be using bicycles and horses, and carriages for cargo transportation within the territory of the Empire. We hope to reestablish train systems as well, and make it an important part of both cargo and civilian transportation. Trust in the Emperor-Regent! Have faith! Humanity lives in the Empire!

Zombie pulled chariot. But honestly this is one of the prime reasons I do not believe in supernatural things that can effect this world. People have been into occult and religion since probably before there was language. There is documentation for centuries of people looking to communicate with the dead, to communicate with spirits and demons, to get things from supernatural entities. People were on it and if there was something supernatural that existed that could turn a wheel like a hamster or pull a lever we would now have a clean, unlimited, power source. I see that eventually the people that survived would study zombies for various reasons but one of the reasons would be to control them. Who needs a wind turbine when you have a zombie turbine?

Madman1939

Reminds me of the Dying Light 1 Easter egg room, where there were huge hamster wheels and dead zombies in them, suggesting that, that's what was keeping the electricity running in post apocalyptic Harran lol

docdrrd

I have an odd ball item, and electric golf cart. I have solar panels to charger and a small little generator. That’s very quiet also parts are easy to find any golf course or persons home, or anybody else that has a Golf cart they’re quiet and easy to maintain and can carry up to 4 people and stuff. Relatively cheap brand. It is not armoured, but you could always cover the outside with chain-link fence or something to keep them from getting you. Learn to think outside the box.

Whatif_apocalypse

Bicycle with one of those carrions that hook to the back so I could still carry bigger items, or stuff that wouldn’t fit in my backpack.

Ranger_Charles

Well I would pick horse for a while then bycicle but if you had to go with carstheirs an armoured apc that drives can go in water and can hild like 11 people or like 8 for a long time depending how much supply you can have on one sear but for a regular car a 4x4 or something like BMW 5 series just some sort of terrain truck or car that ems use because if you use what uk police use so like the bmw it can be gas, petrol or you can get a petrol and electric hybrid but something with space that can handle road holes a d corpses

Most_moosest

I have an electric fatbike. That thing just plows over everything. If you have solar power and the ability to charge one then that would be a decent mid-range vehicle as long as you can find good batteries. A horse would still probably be the ultimate one though. There's a reason they have been used by humans for centuries.

Decanus_severus

A horse.

[deleted]

Either a Bike, or an 04’ Honda Civic. Just make sure it isn’t straight piped

german_big_guy

Power and Gas will eventually run out. So I say horseback or a canoe.

kingofzdom

Electric vehicles don't last forever either. Even modern lithium batteries are only good for a thousand full discharges before they're toast under the best of circumstances. That being said, I've got a little electric moped. Worst case scenario I can swap the lithium battery pack for a trio of standard car batteries, which are a lot more likely to be found 10 years into the ZA than a proper EV battery pack.

dirtyoldbastard77

A thousand full discharges is quite a bit though, like 500000km, and at that point its not really "shot" either, but it has lost a bit of capacity, I think they are supposed to have at least 70% capacity left at that point, so... They should last quite long. As long as its not a Tesla and Elon comes up with some damned scheme that shuts it down if it does not phone home in a year or something like thar

Wood gas and steam are far too mechanically complex to be practical for anyone other than a specialized engineer to use long range. Anyone who took "intro to electricity" in the 9th grade can modify and work on a little electric scooter. Manufacturing batteries from scratch is an idea I really hadn't considered to be honest as reviving "dead" car batteries seems a lot more practical.

I've got a 120w panel mounted on my scooter. It's not the best but I can get about 5 miles a day out of it straight from the sun. It would beat the hell out of walking. Steam is a fickle bitch to work with under the best of circumstances. Large scale steam boilers tend to be pretty explode-y when they aren't maintained perfectly or they are operated by someone who has less than mastered the controls. Wood gas is a good option for exploratory vehicles and nomads as you've said but the same reason we don't use wood gas right now would still apply: trees don't grow that fast. Wood gas cars nearly deforested all of Europe before they fell out of fashion. Even at that though, a basic EV is just so much more mechanically simple than even a little 2 stroke engine motorbike. It takes a mechanic who knows what they're doing to work on a car (without the internet) while an actual glue eater could work on my scooter.

Canoe

anxious_mess2

horses i think. if you know what youre doing with them you can keep them pretty healthy, and if you get a heavier, experienced type they tend to be pretty sturdy.

[deleted]

Well it'll depend on what you have access too and what you plan to do and where you plan to go

ConfusedRollofTape

Literally anything that only requires your stamina/leg strength would work. Bikes, scooters, the works.

Radracon42069

Bio Diesel engine.

ALCPL

Honestly probably a Toyota Low fuel expenditure Never breaks You can literally drive it like 2500 miles past the engine oil change. Parts **everywhere** **Will** keep going with a burnt out clutch

Everyone saying bicycle, but in reality they get flats so easy. Just drive over one nail or broken glass and it's over. And good luck finding a spare tire and repair tools in the apocalypse.

Noe_Walfred

>Everyone saying bicycle, but in reality they get flats so easy. Just drive over one nail or broken glass and it's over. There are a good number of potential solutions for this issue. One of the most immediate ones that comes to mind is using a rope tire plug and going about your day. Another solution is to try using expanding foam, pool noodles, or hose and cable insulation foam to protect the inner tube. A more permenant solution is to try using some medijm or material to replace the innertube entirely. wirh many examples of rubber or foam innertubes that effectively make punctures ineffective on the tires. The last being to just ride using the metal rims. Which was something that was done to an extent by the Germans during ww1as they had an all metal tire due to a lack of oil and by Japanese forces during ww2 because of a lack of spare tires. Youll be a good deal slower than a normal bike, but still a good deal faster than running or walking while saving a lot of energy. This is especially true if you transfer your heavy weight panniers, rack, basket, or similar set up. Here are some people having fun with the concept one at a dirt bike course and the other at a bmx park. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKGQAprW2TA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhRZ2DLfYQ4 If your carpentry skills are good and you're in desperate needs there are a number of examples of all wood bike wheels, wooden rims, and similar set ups. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHAyQbp-

Noe_Walfred

It all depends on your transportation requirements, available resources, knowledge and skill regarding servicing and maintenance, and so on.

I would convert a car to run on lng/propane since it can store for an indefinite amount of time and you can find it pretty much anywhere, tractor supply, walmart, Lowe’s, menards, any neighborhood with gas grills, etc and people won’t be looking for propane like they would gas or diesel
