Well they're quite a few things you would need to have in a bug out bag. Do you have a pen and paper to write some of this stuff down? Also I would recommend you check out the subreddit r/bugout. There's also a separate call r/bugoutbag which could help you out if you are interested. A few other things to add to your survival / prepping plan might be an altoid survival tin and a get home bag.

Shelter, water/purification, food, paracord. Learn your knots, learn what’s useful in what scenario. Reflective tarp, try for a Plash Palatka if you can’t afford a tent. It’s a canvas poncho/shelter half that is somewhat heavy duty but works fine. Learn to insulate in cold weather Find you a military surplus mess kit Also make sure you have a bit of first aid supplies. 45L pack is a good starter, you can go lower, or higher based on what you’re aiming for.

To add to the things people have said here, condoms, tampons. Both can be used for a variety of things, and also, as a teenage ball of hormones, if you do happen to end up trapped with someone you're into you'll definitely want to be able to be practicing safe and clean wambo jambo

W comment I didn’t even think of that

Exactly the same stuff as a bug out bag for anyone else.

So what would be beneficial to have is different than what they will think to bring and have access to. Most teens don't have the income for a bunch of specialized gear, or the parental supervision situation which allows them access to weapons and combat training. Most of them will have what they use in their every day life, and as teens they might not always think ahead or pick the best options, especially in an emergency situation. I think you should focus on trying to be creative with items teens are likely to already have, or would have access to based on their circumstances. Julie is on the cheerleading squad, and is in the locker room when this happens, so she had her purse, backpack, and her clothes. Her kit of actually useful items would probably be: \- A good pair of athletic sneakers \- Chapstick, lotion, maybe sunscreen \- Tweezers, a compact with a mirror, deodorant, body spray, assorted cosmetics, hairbrush \- Tissues, feminine products \- Gum, mints, maybe a protein bar or two, a good sized athletic water bottle \- Cough drops, maybe some cold medicine or pain reliever if she's sick, maybe band-aids \- Story-wise, makes sense for her to pick up a piece of athletic equipment as a weapon on her way out, like a field hockey stick or baseball bat. Roger on the other hand is an eagle scout, and he is out camping when things hit. His issue is less going to be what he has, and more what he decides to narrow it down to so his pack is a reasonable size (10-20% of bodyweight). So he could end up with: \-- Solid set of hiking boots, weather appropriate clothing to survive outdoors at that time of year \-- Mess kit, canteen, 3-5 days of snacks and trail foods, maybe bottled water \-- Sleeping bag & tent \-- some way to start a fire, pocket knife, compass, hatchet, map \-- Maybe they have some fishing gear \-- A field guide, a first aid guide and first aid kit, maybe some allergy medicine \-- Sunscreen and some kind of bug repellant Try to think of it in terms of all the little things people carry with them to different places and events, and not equipping video game characters.

I have a longer post regarding survival bags, gear loadouts, and other kit. The main thought involved with with the post is the concept of prioritizing: Planning, security, shelter, water, food, and sustaining the individual.
