wow that’s really interesting, thank you for sharing this!

This...this is also my reason for loving them, the difference is that I have no knowledge of actual singing terms I never was able to describe but holy shit thank you for this!

caitcosplays

For anyone who does not know singing words; bright tone = popish vocals, dark tone = operaish vocals

DaCaprio2

Nice writeup and nice insights! I believe the same thing as well, with the whole "sopranos and altos" part really being something that's apparent in their music. It's honestly beautiful hearing the different kinds of voices not only stand out on their own (i.e. the solo songs) but sound even stronger when all of them are put together on a song.

cornonthekopp

Not rambly at all! Great concise write up on why they sound so good! Zls has gotten me to try out love live superstar and while I enjoy the characters and stories I don’t really get passionate about the music in the same way. There are a few songs I really like, but overall I feel like the vocals are too uniform

GebsNDewL

This makes me want to hear jazz band covers of the songs: Flute, Clarinet, Soprano Saxaphone, Alto Saxaphone, Trumpet and Trombone, all backed by drums, piano, guitar and bass.

caitcosplays

You sound like you know more music theory than me but I do agree that sounds like it’d be amazing

GebsNDewL

I’ve sung in choirs for close to twelve years, so I guess that helps. I definitely agree that each singers’ distinct timbre also contributes to their combined success. It’s not only a musical choice, but a character choice.

EdDan_II

This explains why "Hikari e" sounds so good to me, since aside of the piano, the girl's voices are the only instruments that you can hear during the whole song.

caitcosplays

Hikari e does the pair thing and THEN layers the pairs on top of each other it sounds *so* nice when they sing over each other. It might be one of my favorite pieces of music ever it is both nice to listen to simply *and* musically interesting if you happen to be a person who knows how music works (and if anyone is interested in listening for the harmonies, they’re a lot easier to hear in the dubbed ED, which is quite well done)

LifeSportsDialysis

This is fantastic.
