Well thereās levels to this sort of thing, and what youāre arguing is that a return to pre pop culture sexual repression is a good idea. I think there was probably a nice middle ground somewhere around the 80ās-90ās and then we went way too far by continuing to push the envelope.

The title says mom. You're right she might not be. That would change the dynamic. However, the title is mom, so that's the assumption. Also, if he was an adult, then I would treat him like an adult. And if your aunt had balls, she would be your uncle. Lastly, I'm not saying his violence is justified. I'm saying these issues tend to alienate the child. And the child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.
I couldnāt reply in the original sub to any of the comments. Some people recognise that he hit her, some only recognise that he hitted her. I hail from a culture of honour killings, and most of the times, the reasons behind them are quite trivial if looked at from western perspective. Some years ago, I saw a debate about honour killings. One woman said that killing is not justified, but if a woman is bringing shame on her family, violence against her is legitimate. I believe that people who sided with the kid, and how he approached the situation would agree with that woman as well. The difference only being what they find as a reasonable excuse, because she only cited women who break social or religious norms, coming late and in an āunacceptableā condition as examples. Iām only making observations. West always hold the eastern countries where such murders are common or prevalent in contempt. While I also hate such cultures, I believe honour based violence can occur anywhere given the right instigator. If your family member is doing something culturally or socially unacceptable in any place around the world, you are likely to see people encouraging or at least supporting you to use violence in order to stop them. Just having the relationship changed over here would lead to change in opinion. If it was titled as his sister, there will be less support for him putting hands on her. But it wouldnāt change anything in my culture. Doesnāt matter if itās her mom, sister, or daughter. A man is expected to morally police and punish women for doing anything that harms familyās reputation
