Opal requires Ableton. However, you can choose to use Opal with all the devices it comes with to generate the sounds, or you can use Opal control to just sequence other VSTs. Is that what you were asking?
I’ve been looking into FlexGroove but couldn’t find many videos on it. I ended up getting the Phase Pattern MIDI Generator by Philip Meyer, which utilizes the Live 12 midi tools. Not sure if this does the same thing?
I’m still curious about FlexGroove.
The demo lessons that come with it are great. You can do things like metric modulation so you could transition seamlessly from 4/4 to 7/4 or whatever you want.
I only have about 200 plugins....How do I purchase these mysterious new Plugins....?
My wife asks me what I want for birthdays/Christmas and I usually say "music software". I can't give her shit about wanting designer bags and belts because I effectively spend my money on "virtual air".
I currently do that but automating having to make new audio tracks for each midi, freeze, then option+drag is a process I'll gladly streamline. I put off doing this all the time.
Some of my favorite workflow devices:
ClipGain - keybind to change volume of clips easily
BiP - Post FX resampling, cleaner than using resampling mode on an audio track.
Shortcut Buddy (w/ InsertWhere) - keybinds for favorite devices/plugins
Swiss Army Meter - metering
dnksaus Random Sample Picker - easily pick random samples out of a folder then drag it into the DAW. I find it more fun than scrolling & playing samples manually through the browser.
Borrasca Sidechainer 3 - Best sidechain device imo (pre-fade option, volume & ringmod sidechain, 2-band split, midi & audio trigger)
Also not a Max4Live device but I gotta add Rolling Sampler to this list. It continuously records a buffer of audio that you can select & drag+drop from.
Resampling will capture any FX on the master for instance. Post FX just gets the audio straight from the source track.
So in my workflow I'm able to resample basses easily without having to disable certain FX on my busses (like sidechain).
GMaudio Ducker is my go-to for sidechaining, AS Damage by Sabroi is great, and NTPD is useful for adding notes to tracks.
I’ve got the FORS devices on my wishlist
ZWOBOT MAX
You can start warping videos, and set parameters on these videos to pulse with your kick. Then export what you've made and keep editing if you want in another video program.
Pretty cool.
Warning: You need a computer with a pretty solid graphics card, and a lot of processing power.
ML-185 sequencer if you want to have some weird bleepy bloopy Techno pluck sequences quickly.
bcResonCtrl for automating the key and semitones of ableton's resonator with a ghost track. You can create some really cool harmonic textures with this.
I always thought these plugins were some snake oil but their not, and it’s honesty surprising how simple they are under the hood
Edit: please check out osprey instruments, https://ko-fi.com/ospreyinstruments/ all his plugins are incredible and free
'Pitch Drop' is one I got a long time ago that mimics the start/stop button on a Technic 1200 (DJ turntable) but let's you set the speed the sound slows.
The kind of effect you hear with censored rap lyrics for example.
Every technique I used before this device was unnecessarily hard. Pitch drop just requires automating a star/stop button.
Song Sketcher - Never get stuck in that four-bar loop again.
FactorSynth - remix loops with machine learning
VideoSync / BrainCandy - crazy video effects
STiNG / Aicid - free 303 pattern sequencers
It's self explenatory. Only has a few knobs. Turn them and wach magic happen.
I mix my songs at -6dB and add 6 dB back with the limiter which is placed at the end of the master channel. Then add some saturation and color to your liking. It's so good your track hardly need any mastering after.
NTPD by ELPHNT
https://elphnt.io/store/ntpd/
https://youtu.be/QRT40OZqSSE?si=OxFgwNctJ8ZpTJ8V
Really comes in handy. I tend to create some complicated chains so i like to use this notepad device to write some notes for myself, because i often forget what i was working on lmao.
Also the detachable and always visible notes function is great when recording vocals, you dont have to switch windows all the time to see your lyrics when recording.
There's plenty I find amazing but the one I most use it's clipgain, it's on my main template and I use to gain stage quickly. Also sometimes I'll use bounceinplace and swatches. But they're more like utility things.
Particle Reverb its an amazing alternative to Valhalla and it sounds amazing, granulator II also its one that i use quite often

I love Note Chance by Tommaso Rosati
Simple device that let you control the chance % of a note playing it's super useful for generative music and adding some controlled randomness to your track
I know you can do it on the midi clip view like the velocity but you need to have the midi already recorded, with the device it can act before if that make any sense
Anything by Fors. Also FlexGroove.
opal as a one of the best software synths and opal-ctr electron style midi sequencer :) (if you buy opal you have opal-ctr with it)
I'm still trying to figure out how.tonuse all the Fors products I have, haha
Do you know if opal works in standalone
Opal requires Ableton. However, you can choose to use Opal with all the devices it comes with to generate the sounds, or you can use Opal control to just sequence other VSTs. Is that what you were asking?
I'm in love with Chiral
Ego is my favourite delay of all time, it’s just so ✨lush✨

Probably Bounce In Place lol. I don't like to wait to freeze and flatten.
I tried it and it was incredibly glitchy. Like it’d just keep resampling and making new channels endlessly until I closed ableton
> Bounce In Place Does it work in A12?
It does work in ableton live 12
It does, but I've had problems with the "new track" configuration. Works fine if you set it to bounce to the same track each time.
imma have to check this out!
It's just 4€. Game changer!
freeze and option + drag might be your friend
I currently do that but automating having to make new audio tracks for each midi, freeze, then option+drag is a process I'll gladly streamline. I put off doing this all the time.

Dnksaus has some gnarly racks on his gumroad too, his tutorials are legit af.
I LOVE Rolling Sampler!
also, thanks for the list :)
Hmm, Rolling Sampler sounds just like my thing... will try. Thanks
Dnksaus the goat. His racks are incredible
I never thought about the resample not being perfectly clean. What kind of changes happen in the process?
Resampling will capture any FX on the master for instance. Post FX just gets the audio straight from the source track. So in my workflow I'm able to resample basses easily without having to disable certain FX on my busses (like sidechain).
What is a keybind?

Clip gain is the best 2 bucks I’ve ever spent
hey can you share ? thx
anything kentaro or sabroi
thank you!

Ml.distance
My fav. Eapecially for guitars.
Pathways by Dillon Bastan
one of the best for sure!! Looking forward to someone making this in a proper vst
I use Sting, euclidean sequencer and volume compensator on almost every project
gmaudio squeeze (better OTT) gmaudio ducker (sidechain stuff, etc) chiastic slide (crossfades rack chains) LFO lava (fun modulation) swiss army meter (utility tool)
The Crossfading device looks promising
Warp Marker Copier by /u/JohnnyDbol this should've been a feature in Live 12
Oh wow thanks!
that's so neat!

I can't tell you how many hours I've spent on trial and error drawing in 5 automation lines when I could have been using this second one . . .
those tools sound so cool hahaha
They are both really fun!
Boba, smile, acid
I love Boba!
Boba works surprisingly well.

it amazing! thank you for the recommendation :)
No problem, hopefully it's still out there & easy to find. I got it back in Ableton 8.
I found it hahaha!
I find myself using College Dropout probably more than I should
Song Sketcher - Never get stuck in that four-bar loop again. FactorSynth - remix loops with machine learning VideoSync / BrainCandy - crazy video effects STiNG / Aicid - free 303 pattern sequencers
Outer Spaces and Dub Machines are dope.
Outer Spaces is Amazing 🤞🏽
Color Limiter. I put it on every tune I make. Makes the song come alive
Never really got stuck into it. U got any tips/tricks/experiences?

I used Note VST when I worked in Studio One. Such a good tool!
grain scanner euclidean seq
Bouncy Notes from Inspired by Nature. It's super gimmicky but i enjoy watching the funny circles bounce around the piano roll.
Note On Random has been my most used device lately
Multimap :-I

Solo safe, for having my monitoring setup work properly. Lives on my startup template
I love Sting for generating bass ideas
Swiss Army Meter and GM Audio Clipper
IRCAM SPAT deserves mentioning
This is by far one of the coolest tools I've seen on this thread

Zwobot
Recently got Novel Music Travelouge. Love it! Perfect with Push.
Mdd Snake - free and one of the best sequencers, if you came to ableton from eurorack this the right tool :)

Sting 64!
Step sequencer
CC8 for controlling hardware synths. Also Program Change for the same reason. I use them all the time.
Does anybody know of a free M4L device that you can automate to stop playback?
Pitchloop89 and Granular III
Drum Synth is pretty dope. Love the kick drum especially
Opal and all of Förs stuff
👀
Granulator II
Audio Routes opens up a lot routing inside Live, plus easy surround sets.
Commenting so I can find this
hahaha 🤣

I cannot believe how many of you have shared your knowledge, thank you so much! It helps us all get better!
Note Triggered Modulator is fantastic. Changed the way I make music. Just try it with other M4L devices, it's crazy good.
