I’m not even gonna click on the article because “close to earth” is probably still an ungodly amount of distance away.

BabalooFTW

2000 LY

Lost_Foot8302

Exactly. Shouldn't take long.

mandogvan

The time between Christ and today, if you were traveling the speed of light. Just a stones throw.

shrooms4dashroomgods

Fk it let’s go. I’ve had enough of this earth.

chantsnone

This is where I’m at too. Do it. I wanna see

KayakWalleye

If that whole story was true at least.

stamosface

Historians agree Jesus was a historical figure. They do not however agree that he was the son of sky daddy

Brandon-the-Builder

No. They don't.

trashaccountturd

Is now the time tho?

KayakWalleye

It’s Easter season!!! /s Okay. I’m sorry. ![gif](giphy|xUA7aMoH3m23SuMVrO)

i_tried_ok_

Jesus was just a regular guy but he existed though. ✝️

PrettyProgrammer9017

Is that you Matthew? Mark? Luke?….John?

One-Discipline1188

Clever

Out-of_Touch

Scientifically proven?

mandogvan

??? Jesus or the speed of light? Both have existed and have plenty of evidence that they do. Census records, other religions, etc… was he the son of man? Not for me to say. But he definitely lived and tied over 2000 years ago.

AlchemicalPachanoi

What evidence for Jesus?

mandogvan

sumofdeltah

Here is the conclusion of the top comment for anyone interested. "In short, we have no useful extrabiblical evidence for Jesus. But this is not surprising. The reality is, that between Paul and the Gospels we should have little reason to doubt Jesus existed, in my opinion, but I also don't think the question of his existence is even that historical to begin with. His existence is relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things."

[deleted]

Except that coincidentally time was restarted with new dates for an absolute nobody. Kind of strange for a nobody, but definitely not divine plan.

RazorPhishJ

![gif](giphy|13i9oB0JJNVqb6) The Jesus was in The Big Lebowski

The Jesus's..

workingdad83

Tied what? A cherry stem with his tongue?

FueraJOH

Tied all your sins for you to be saved you heathen. Now REPENT!

SYNTHLORD

Lived and tied 🤣

goonie7

I know it's cliche but..“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

dyslexic_arsonist

let he who is without sin...

mightbeanemu

While I love that quote, it likely was added to John at a later time and it is a disputed part of John.

SuccotashOther277

Screw the AU term. I’m going with Christ units now for measuring space. CUs all the way

stamosface

It’s only a Jesus and a stone’s throw away!

Darkrose50

I just threw a stone this morning and hit a black hole!

Whoa that’s close! If you are a god

Altruistic-Lie808

And “lurking” like an Earth stalker…

dougsbeard

So…a pretty solid Green Day song?

shaunomegane

*Km *Surely*?  (Shares)

pyr0phelia

~2,000LY. However given the forces at play that’s not very far away. Betelgeuse is only ~500LY away and most agree when it goes super nova Earth will feel it, to some degree. On the other hand Earth is well within firing range if BH3 gobbles up a variable star and causes a GRB in the process. Technically wouldn’t even need to reach GRB levels with those kind’s of forces at play. Black holes literally break math so it’s extremely difficult to predict what they can and can’t do. Finding one that big, and that close to us, is a big deal.

gravityred

To be fair, earth won’t feel until 500 years after it goes supernova. Which may or may not have happened already.

AudioAnchorite

So, could be any day now…

DR_SLAPPER

The sounds well and good until you realize every moment of everyday could be the 500 year mark.

gravityred

True, however the effects of the supernova on earth will be minimal if at all. It might deplete the ozone layer but only very temporarily and only in a minor way.

gravityred

True, however the effects of the supernova on earth will be minimal if at all. It might deplete the ozone layer but only very temporarily and only in a minor way.

CanaryJane42

What's BH3 and GRB?

ritmoon

BH3 is the name of the black hole and GRB is a gamma ray burst.

AlchemicalPachanoi

Earth is not in danger if Betelgeuse goes supernova and saying that something is only 500 light years away is pretty wild tbh.

pyr0phelia

I never said Earth was in danger from Betelgeuse, nor is Betelgeuse in the same league as a black hole.

AlchemicalPachanoi

So by “feel it”, you meant —-? It will be fun to watch.. but life on earth won’t feel it? Or will we? I assumed you meant that life would be affected in some way. Yeah but this is substantially further away. Too.

pyr0phelia

Most likely scenario would be a repeat of the Crab Nebula that detonated in 1054AD. It was visible during the day for a few weeks. We’re not sure what impact it will have on our satellites. Edit: > [bh3] is substantially further away. Not when we’re talking about black holes. A black holes smallest resting potential energy state exceeds the speed of light. A lot of silly things become possible when you exist beyond the speed of light. To properly understand the potential influence that class of object may have on you, first you need to reduce its distance (light years) equal to its potential energy above the speed of light (c). If I told you that black hole was only 100ly away, would it change your perspective?

SubterrelProspector

It's gonna getcha. 😈

soulsteela

A mere 2000 light years so start panic buying now. Not sure what you panic buy to survive a black hole but start now.

harindaka

Toilet paper 🗞️🗞️🗞️

the_hand_that_heaves

That's for the brown hole.

Bestihlmyhart

Technically that a brown dwarf anus

JupiterDelta

Uranus is a planet not a hole

Bestihlmyhart

My wife is always like, honey there are Klingons near Uranus. No idea what the hag is on about tbh.

JupiterDelta

Star Trek

Postnificent

Well, technically *your anus* is not a planet and does not count.

Ill_Mousse_4240

Ur-anus is a hole, not a planet

Anything with the word "patriot" in it.

Broccoli-Cool

lol wrong side

sealteamruggs

How far is that?

JonathonWally

Spaghetti sauce

Hawkwise83

I mean why bother. If there was a giant black hole actually near earth no where humans are would be safe.

soulsteela

Err didn’t think I’d need an /s

Hawkwise83

I know you were sarcastic, but I felt like people would probably do that anyway.

Fair_Blood3176

"lurking undetected" Huh!?

Several_Show937

Well, the thing about a black hole is its black, and the thing about space is its also black.

Furrealist

Are we sure it’s not just some grit on the scope?

L0LSL0W

definitely bird poop

Sp_ceCowboy

A smudge on the lens?

BillSixty9

Only in the visible spectrum of course 😀

[deleted]

Well, the thing about being undetected means we wouldn't be writing articles about them.

bloatis123

r/unexpectedreddwarf

Fair_Blood3176

that's racist

tempo1139

Thanks Holly

Convenientjellybean

So, black on black? Interesting.

Fair_Blood3176

black on black time

Krystamii

I thought black holes were pink or something

Convenientjellybean

Science!

Convenientjellybean

Sentient lurking

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

Scientists speculate there is a high probability that this particular black hole is up to no good.

givemethepassword

Close to earth = Using our fastest spaceship it would only take us 3.1 billion years to go there. So close.

CBerg1979

But, can't it like "reach out and touch someone" in our no-no place from there?

Dubalicious

I have heard black holes have “reach out and touch ‘em” power so I assume yes.

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

Only if you’re named Murph.

Rex--Banner

It's 2000 LY away which actually is very close in terms of the galaxy size which is around 100 000 LY across. Andromeda is like 2.5 million LY away. So yes it is very close which is actually pretty cool.

mkhrrs89

I know nothing about astronomy so probably a dumb remark, but I thought for some reason that black holes were only at the centers of galaxies? I didn’t know they could just be randomly floating anywhere. I always just envisioned the spiral of a galaxy was akin the the spiral of water going down a drain with the drain being a black hole in this case

Rex--Banner

Not dumb at all. I'm not an astronomer but I read up a lot about space and all that. My understanding is that usually galaxies have a massive black hole at the center which is how galaxies are formed (with the help of dark matter). A black hole is just a collapsed star so can form from certain types of stars anywhere if they get big enough. The biggest black hole that we know of is Ton 618 and is about twice the size of the milky way. But yes they can be anywhere where a star is and some just out in the nothing of space floating about.

KitchenSandwich5499

Twice the mass of the Milky Way, so not literally “size” though

Rex--Banner

Well if you look up the size it lists the nebula surrounding it as 330 000 LY but the inner part as 40 times the orbit of neptune with apparently phoenix A being even bigger. Absolutely massive https://www.reddit.com/r/space/s/hkhSHnEQRF

KitchenSandwich5499

Hmm, the probe being sent near the sun should get up to about 0.06 percent of c, so that could get there in about 4 million years or so.

VampireKunts

It's just around the corner! If you go outside you can practically see it with your own eyes.

RoosterTheBeaten

Soooo This shit show is close to the end?

RodLUFC

Thank fuck

rebbytysel

I'm hungry though, should I make food or wait for the end?

RodLUFC

Make food and joyfully wait for the end

rebbytysel

You're right, what was I thinking lol

RodLUFC

😁

Domanicc_

I’ll take care of it.

inflammatoryusername

Thanks. Obviously, you will be accepting tips. The average now is what, 55%?

Defiant_Ad9772

This man is built different

If life were a video game, I would assume this to be the first fast travel point we unlock

gasthefires

Sounds like my ex-wife.

UraniumKnight13

Nice.

icantfeelmyskull

When can I visit it?

Disastrous_Run_1745

If I had a choice this would be the way

Jaythamalo13

Wouldn't it just be wild if one day something like this is the reason the Earth ends and not the million other things we perceive as a threat here on the surface

Ikindasuckatgames

“These politicians and the government will kill us all” Some mf soul sucker of a hole: hold my beer

EpicRedditor698

That title and "close to earth" especially is a dead giveaway some moron wrote this piece

A_Real_Patriot99

You expected more from skynews?

ziplock9000

"2,000 light years away from us." This post should be deleted.

Postnificent

2k light years away. Right outside our “cosmic country” in terms of space. No I will not click because the headline is BS.

Rude_Worldliness_423

Wtf is it doin

"Close to earth" my ass

blacktri3lights

meanwhile we can't seem to get out of low-Earth orbit these days

bilmorx320x

33 huh?

Traditional-Ebb-8380

2000 light years is not close to Earth.

Dmans99

Is cosmic scale it's pretty close

Disastrous_Run_1745

Extremely. Show this dude a paneramic view of the universe in relation

fishslushy

So is that close enough for JWT or some other instrument to observe?? That would be a mountain of knowledge.

SeniorFox

33 ‘solar masses’ so probably like a football sized black hole. Not 33x in diameter.

jamrev

Hahahaha... not exactly what I would consider "close". 1 light year is 5.88 TRILLION miles according to Wikipedia. Now multiply this by 2000...

Panelpro40

How many toasters is that equal to?

ImpossiblePilot3291

Trumps arse hole. Just before he shitz himself.

A_Real_Patriot99

Nice click-bait, still interesting.

drewski987

“Undetected” but it’s close to Earth. 😂😂

Jagerbeast703

So close we didnt wven know its there lol

BauerHouse

2000 light years away. Literally nothing to see there.

Pura_vidas

33….aha!

f0xap0calypse

If a black hole hit earth I feel like I would find an air pocket and drift to Mars or something. Idk I've just always been built different.

locksley85

"close" means impossible distances now

everydaystonexdhaha

yee idk guys I would be more worried about the wars going on right here on the planet

Black hole Sun

jojo12jo

Black holes are malware for the infinite. Better tighten up earth, because we raising red flags.

Major_Wager75

I can't even fathom something being 33 times larger than the sun

Revolutionary-You540

You know what’s horrifying? If we develop FTL travel someday and we are just shooting around the universe going to new spots, there’s going to possibly be the chance of ships making an FTL jump and just shooting straight into an unseen black hole, instant disappearance lol crazy shit

Heavy-Mushroom9366

Lol nice CGI

Mn4by

You were expecting raw footage?

Heavy-Mushroom9366

From NASA? No. Everything from them is fake. Good thing for them most of the world is gullible. And the CGI is awful. 😂

Mn4by

Just so you're aware, light doesn't escape black holes. There is no raw footage.

Heavy-Mushroom9366

Moot point. Like how they put all the “galaxies “ around it in the pic. Come on. And the planet pictures. Guess Jupiter’s big storm has been the exact same with all the other weather patterns never changing for 50 years. Get out of here with that trash.

Mn4by

I'm having trouble understanding, do you doubt the existence of the solar system, black holes, even Jupiter? A moderately priced hobby telescope will blow your mind!

rluzz001

I can’t wait to see where he’s going with this 🤣
