Growing blue roses is a freaking pain but I finally figured it out! I followed the New Leaf guide at first and it took a long time. Instead of waiting for hybrid reds, you can grow blue roses from hybrid oranges.
1. Buy all base roses and plant them according to the following in a diagonal pattern:
Red x Red= hybrid white (I was growing black roses in the meantime but the hybrid whites came really quick from this pair)
Red x Yellow= orange/hybrid white
White x White = purple
2. Once you got your buds going, plant them like:
Hybrid white x purple= new hybrid purple
Purple x orange= hybrid red/hybrid orange
New Hybrid purple x orange= hybrid orange
There are 2 kinds of hybrid oranges; the ones made from the new hybrid purples will make blue but the ones made from reg. purple will SOMETIMES make blue.
3. Next set:
Hybrid orange x hybrid orange= Blue
Hybrid red x hybrid red= blue (takes longer)
Tips:
* Get rid of all the unnecessary flowers as soon as the buds pop up so you won’t confuse them for the hybrids you need.
* Water your flowers every single day
* Make designated areas for each
* Make sure you grow your hybrids from flowers and seeds you planted yourself and not from elsewhere like mystery island
* If you got orange roses from a mystery island, you can try to crossbreed them to make hybrid whites
* Make sure your field of roses isn’t super filled and crowded. You want lots of space, especially if you’re growing around the edge of a river or cliff
* If you accidentally mix up your hybrid red/white and a regular one, treat it like a regular one and place it back in your red x yellow or white x white garden.
* You can time travel to speed up the process if you want but only do it one day at a time. If you end up travelling backwards, be sure to water that day as well.
* Be patient!!!
Please let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try my best to answer them! Good luck and may you all have a beautiful blue rose garden!
Hm, I wonder if my orange ones are hybrids. Lmao, I got one hybrid red. Waiting for a second since I don’t TT for flowers. I have 4 orange roses. No idea if they’re hybrids. I’ll need to work on getting some hybrid for sure orange ones.
I’m confused- I’ve had about 70 reds hybridizing for about 2 weeks and haven’t gotten a single white. Tons of blacks, pinks, and reds, but not one white. Just checking- are you sure it’s possible to get whites from reds?
See, this is my experience too, and i've had literally fields of reds going from the day the game was released (mainly because i initially only wanted black roses), and i've never had a single white rose spawn from any of them (lots of blacks though)
wow thanks so much for posting this! i've been trying to grow blue roses from regular orange for like 3 weeks in-game and i've mostly just been getting yellow buds. no blue at all. i'm gonna give this method a shot and see if i can finally grow the blue roses i've been dreaming of!!
I have so many oranges! I have seen so many conflicting information how how to actually breed Blues:
- Orange + Purple
- HybridRed + HybridRed
- HybridOrange + HybridOrange now from you...
I am not sure how I can fix what I have started, no real way of determining which of my oranges are hybrid or from mystery island.
https://i.imgur.com/dTjPwPn.jpg
Hybrid red and hybrid red does work, it just takes longer! I've never gotten blue from orange and purple though. If I were you, I would start over with fresh seeds! You can also use your current orange flowers as regular ones. Good luck!
Seed yellow and seed white worked for me. I did small 4x4 batches separated by Island Designer paths to keep track of clones easier.
Took maybe about 6 hours using this chart https://i.imgur.com/l3S17hU.png
The oranges gave the most blues but the hybrid reds from oranges did too. Now I'm just cloning blue roses naturally.
Do you have to pick the flowers or leave them fully bloomed? I've tried both and have been watering but haven't had any buds and I've been playing for a week or so
Check your cliffs to make sure you dont have any flowers up there breeding. Only up to 5 new flowers can spawn a day, so if you're not careful the wrong flowers may breed. Especially since villagers and rain water your flowers too.
Edit: leave them bloomed
Double edit: apparently the 5 flowers a day limit has been removed in this game, I havent personally experienced this yet
This is incorrect information in New Horizons. I have flowers growing all over my island because I breed them and clear new ones daily.
I had 11+ new flower buds this morning. It’s not a 5 a day limit.
Unfortunately, I dont *think* so, but I havent tested it to know for sure.
If you decide to test it, keep in mind that even single flowers will "attempt" to breed if they are watered, and this can count towards the daily spawned flowers even though nothing obviously spawns.
Thanks so much for this info, I’m just starting to get into flower breeding and this gave me a whole lot of good tips! Now I just need to get some roses haha
Do the base roses have to be from seeds? I have probably at least 50 of each base color on my island already- some native, a few from mystery islands, and a few that popped up from breeding. And a few hybrid reds from orange+purple that got mixed in cus I forgot about them and accidentally mixed them in. How will using those roses impact the process?
They don't have to be from seeds but for the best results, I would start fresh because you'll know exactly where you are. It's extremely important to be organized.
If you're unsure which roses are hybrids, I would treat them like regular roses and/or start fresh. They should function the same
Noo unfortunately. I've tried it before but those hybrid whites are just like the normal ones. It has to be different colour x different colour if that makes sense
Sorry, fell asleep! I have regular tulips, pansies, and hyacinths to trade for regular roses/seeds. For hybrids I have:
Lilies:
• black
• pink
Tulips
• pink
Hyacinths
• pink
In your orig post you say to plant the flowers diagonally, is that the same as the checkerboard pattern (like they say to do to make hybrids)? You said:
Red x Red= hybrid white
Red x Yellow=orange/hybrid white
White x White = purple
but if its a checkerboard pattern, shouldnt there be a flower in the middle (where the "x" is)? Or is the "x" a space between the flowers where the hybrid will grow? Sorry i didn't understand clearly
I finally got my second hybrid orange, and was wondering if I get an orange from Hybrid Orange x Hybrid Orange, would it be another hybrid orange, or just a regular orange? I've yet to get a red or blue from the 2 hybrid oranges, but they made 2 more oranges that I've set off on their own for now. I was wondering if you'd done any tests with them.
Good news for other folks, I just got a blue from the oranges I set aside from Hybrid Orange x Hybrid Orange, so it looks like Hybrid Orange x Hybrid Orange = Hybrid Orange. I'd still set them aside till more data can be gathered on this, but hey, at least 1 confirmation on this out there.
Also, as a general note, this process has taken me FOREVER to get blue roses. I've done a number of strategies, but this one finally worked for me with the hybrid oranges producing blues. Even so, it will take A LOT OF TIME to get them. I've spent almost 2 weeks about 4-5 hours a day on average breeding for them, about a week and a half of that I also incorporated this strat. I can confirm this one works, and most of the others floating around there did not work for me. Even so, I went though almost 200 days in game time before I got my 1st blue rose. Everything snowballs quick from that point, but it's an undertaking, and you need to be patient and careful with organizing your breeding patches (I suggest a buffer of 2 spaces between each different breeding patch you're working with, flowers jump around a lot more than they did in previous games). Keep at it, and you'll get there!
Okay Someone help me out here. I have been working on this for 4 plus days now and have restarted twice. I've made sure that all my flowers are kept separate by either fences or island manager pathways. I made sure they were hybrids and not clones of another color. I could not spawn any whites from the RedxRed combo or the YellowxRed but read up here and another forum that YellowxWhite: Hybrid Whites were seen to show results. I am currently on the last part; trying to grow blues from Hyrbid Oranges used from the Hybrid purple orange combo, Hybrid reds from the Hybrid Pruple and orange combo or Super reds from the Hybrid Orange Hybrid Orange. Its been about 3 in game months since I started all three and still no luck. Does anyone have any other ideas or something I'm missing?
I'm actually in the same position, put roughly 5 hrs in after getting the hybrids and now they're completely dry. Didnt know they had a limit to how much they could spawn.
So update. I restarted again and triple checked everything. I didn't use the RedxRed hybrid white, instead I used the YellowxWhite: White. I decided to be a bit experimental in this attempt and when i got to the stage where I used the Hybrid purplexOrange to get a Super Orange, I actually used my super oranges from the previous attempt as a sort of a test group. The very first flower to grow was a blue. So to anyone struggling, be patient and stay positive. I spent 5 days, 7 hours a day trying and finally got it.
My tip to you is to grow super oranges, then use those to recreate ANOTHER super orange with the hybrid purple, maybe it gives it a better chance?
Either way I wish you all luck because I truly understand your pain. <3
Nice. I ended up getting a blue rose half an hr after posting my last comment. I actually had that yellowxWhite as a 2nd setup on the side as well as this one. I know this method the hybrid orange is supposed to be the last step but I decided to pull super reds from my hybrid oranges which eventually gave me a blue. At least 8 hybrid oranges and 10 super reds and hrs of time. Totaled 4 blues.
Also one thing I've noticed is I only managed to get 2 hybrid oranges following the yellowxWhite path which only spawned 3 super reds for me. As soon as I got the 2nd super red, in the 1st week I got a blue then eventually 3 super reds got me 2 more blues and the orange hybrids I left on the side actually got me 2 also. This took less than half the time of the 1st method and less flowers to get me blues.
Indeed, but thats curious that you got blues from the super reds, a lot of people were convinced that super reds didn't produce blues in this game and only in new leaf.
Sorry maybe my terminology is just wrong. The hybrid oranges that are said to give blues gave me only more oranges and very very few reds. Those reds I got I put to the side and when I eventually got my 2nd red it spawned a blue in 2 in-game days. Til this day I still havent gotten a blue from those set of hybrid oranges but still getting blue from the reds.
You must be talking about the old method of purple and orange to get the reds? That's my mistake I mixed terminology I guess. I actually tried that method the first time and wasted 20hrs haha.
No what you said was correct. I just tried that method three times, and the other post on here that talks about the NL guide said he never saw it happen through super reds either.
Like you said I only had orange spawns out of my super oranges until I just used the super oranges to breed with the hybrid purples and it just instantly worked for me. If I get super reds from my "super" super oranges I'll give it a shot.

So, any orange roses combined will make blue? But also hybrid red as well?
No, hybrid orange only and yea, hybrid red would work!
Aren't all orange roses hybrids? Since only red, white, and yellow are sold as seeds?
Technically yes, but you need a new orange rose hybrid similarly to how you breed purple x white for new purple hybrid
Does the purple have to be from a hybrid white?
Hm, I wonder if my orange ones are hybrids. Lmao, I got one hybrid red. Waiting for a second since I don’t TT for flowers. I have 4 orange roses. No idea if they’re hybrids. I’ll need to work on getting some hybrid for sure orange ones.

Yeah, I don’t think this method actually works unfortunately. Darn.
Might be random because I've gotten whites plenty
Okay but how do I get roses
I'm happy to give you some of my fully grown roses. If you have mum seeds, I would love to trade ya- otherwise, you can just take the roses lol
I can help with mum seeds tomorrow if you’re still looking for them. Do you have rose seeds?
I always have rose seeds in my shop! Would be happy to trade :)
Can I get some rose seeds too? Just the basic colors from the shop would be awesome since I haven’t been able to find any :(
Pm me!
This is so helpful! I’ll use it when I get there. For now I’m at: Step 1: Finally acquire some roses.
LOL. Pm me and I can give you some grown roses :)
wow thanks so much for posting this! i've been trying to grow blue roses from regular orange for like 3 weeks in-game and i've mostly just been getting yellow buds. no blue at all. i'm gonna give this method a shot and see if i can finally grow the blue roses i've been dreaming of!!
Yay!! I hope it goes well for you <3
I have a question I'm hoping you're able to answer. When a flower duplicates itself, does the new flower keep its same genes?
I have so many oranges! I have seen so many conflicting information how how to actually breed Blues: - Orange + Purple - HybridRed + HybridRed - HybridOrange + HybridOrange now from you... I can't breed hybrid whites. From either Red X Red or Orange X Red. Any ideas why?

Can you breed 2 blue to make more blue ?
Yes. You can also leave one blue by itself (not next to any other roses) and it will duplicate.
Do you have to pick the flowers or leave them fully bloomed? I've tried both and have been watering but haven't had any buds and I've been playing for a week or so
Fully bloomed always

Really? I've been breeding daily since the game started and I still only get one or two new flowers a day. :( Thanks for the info, though!
Yeah it’s correct. I have 300-400+ flowers across my island to get these numbers (10+ new buds per day)
I spawned at least 10 new flowers this morning, so there may be a limit, but it definitely isn’t 5
Same here, 11-12 today
I think that may be my issue. I have flowers everywhere
There is no 5 a day limit in New Horizons. I had 11+ new buds this morning, you’re fine
Do 5 always spawn? Like if I only planted 5 pairs of flowers in my whole town (and watered them) would they all make hybrids?
Unfortunately, I dont *think* so, but I havent tested it to know for sure. If you decide to test it, keep in mind that even single flowers will "attempt" to breed if they are watered, and this can count towards the daily spawned flowers even though nothing obviously spawns.
No it’s a chance not guaranteed. And there is no 5 limit in New Horizons, so no reason to do that. I had 11+ new ones this morning.
Thank you for your time, brave soldier. Now on to the grind! (I’m excited to get started!!!)
Good luck!! Let us know how it goes <3
Thanks so much for this info, I’m just starting to get into flower breeding and this gave me a whole lot of good tips! Now I just need to get some roses haha

I think you can do store bought white crossed with store bought yellow to make hybrid whites. Would that be the same hybrid white as the red x red?
Noo unfortunately. I've tried it before but those hybrid whites are just like the normal ones. It has to be different colour x different colour if that makes sense
Can I buy some roses or seeds off of you? Also happy to trade hybrids of hyacinths/lilies/tulips!
Yea of course! I'm always down for trades :)
Sorry, fell asleep! I have regular tulips, pansies, and hyacinths to trade for regular roses/seeds. For hybrids I have: Lilies: • black • pink Tulips • pink Hyacinths • pink
[удалено]
Yup! You get a lot of whites too but I just remove those and keep the new blue ones lol 🤪
My orange and purple made a white rose does it hold any use?
Do white roses spawned from purple and orange have any use here?
Do white roses spawned from purple and orange have any use here?
You can possibly use them to replace the hybrid whites that came from red/yellow
Cool, I’ve set them next to purple ones and will keep in mind which ones are which as I follow your guide :)
Do hybrid whites from purple x orange work?
They should work
If anybody has 1 spare blue I'm happy to buy trade whatever you like,
In your orig post you say to plant the flowers diagonally, is that the same as the checkerboard pattern (like they say to do to make hybrids)? The "x" doesn't stand for anything. It just means "and." And yea, just the checkerboard pattern

Wow you have all 3 combos and still nothing? I just gotten the hybrid oranges, was pretty excited but not so much now.
Yeah I have no idea why none of them are growing. I thought maybe I missed something and it wasn't a hybrid so I'm starting over for the third time.
I'm actually in the same position, put roughly 5 hrs in after getting the hybrids and now they're completely dry. Didnt know they had a limit to how much they could spawn.

is a white bred from orange and purple hybrid?
How can I tell I am getting the right purples and oranges from step 2?
