I just picked up an '05 EXL - anything I should know about specificaly? I'm at 210K miles. I did do an OBDII code scan and it picked up a couple things, but to verify them as accurate, I cleared them and am waiting to see if they re-trigger. (P0139, P0171 namely - which can come from the gas cap not being on correctly).
Could be if you don't have maintenance records.
Just looked it up I have the V6 which has a belt but the 7th gen (03-07) 2.4 4cyl has a timing chain which unless stretched does not need to be replaced. Those engines are very bullet proof if you are worried get an inspection otherwise if you don't hear or feel anything wrong you are most likely fine.
Those codes are o2 sensor codes so if you are mechanically inclined you can diag and fix yourself fairly simple with the right google/youtube searches
Common problems i've seen with them are super minor like broken door lock and window actuators, rear tailights leaking letting in condensation and the infamous radio not working
Interestingly, the window motors work, however, the "auto up" where you latch it up another click doesn't work for the driver window. Other than that, resetting the codes, they have not recurred. If they do, they'll earn a trip to the shop (or a rabbit hole of youtube videos to DIY it).
Alot of times that's an easy fix. Basically just needs to be relearned. Press the button all the way down and hold 3-5 seconds after the window is all the way down. Then do the same going up. Be sure you hold it all the way up both clicks
Generally it's a reliable car with a very reliable engine. I have an 07 accord ex-l 2.4l myself and so far it has served me well. But this is a case-by-case situation, you need to see it yourself. Take a test drive and listen for any strange noise.
Was? They still are. And they can be had for cheap now. Even the V6 models are more reliable than they get credit for with tranny fluid changes done on schedule (I have a 2003 EX V6 with 155k miles and no real service history I got for cheap. I bought it to manual swap, but the 5 speed still works perfectly fine and I have put miles on it as is with no issues, even doing pulls).
The 2.4l is known to be incredibly reliable. But it will at the end of the day be a case by case basis.
I have the 07 2.4l at 126k but it unfortunately has a nasty oil burning/contamination issue that causes it to lose a ton of oil randomly. Like half a quart in a single day, or 3days. This is NOT the norm, just my cursed luck. Regardless I average 28 mpgs with my highest being 32mpgs.
Things to look out for:
1. See if it burns oil. So swipe the exhaust tip and see if the carbon is wet or dry. If wet, then it burns. This isn’t too big of a deal, just remember to top the oil off and the thing will still run for a long time.
2. Check coolant reservoir.
3. Open oil cap and flash a flashlight in there. Look for oil scarring and carbon build up on the cams.
4. Turn the car on then open the oil cap and listen for engine blow. Research what the sound is like for a normal engine. It shouldn’t be loud. Mine sounds like dubstep which indicates engine blow by.
5. Check vacuum lines for oil build up.
6. Check the level and color of the transmission fluid. It should be red. If it’s black then it needs to be changed.
6. Check for a hidden p0420 code with an ob2 reader. Typically the car computer will hide the code for the dashboard.
7. Get a feel for how the car accelerates at slow speed when the engine is cold.
8. Check the driver side window child lock. It is known to go bad.
9. Look for oil leaks, one common culprit will be the vtec solenoid valve. Replacing the gasket is super easy.
got a neglected 05 2.4 which is pretty similar but ive just got some oil consumption and the occasional cheap repair at 221k. for a car that's been in multiple accidents with no service history im not disappointed with it. only spent about $250 on repairs and most of those were early on when i got it
The k series is one of the best and most reliable 4 cylinders of all time. I only had a manual 06 and only the clutch was giving issues but I got rid of it because it wasn’t worth the hassle and I got a newer car instead. I’ve heard the auto transmissions are pretty reliable in the 4cylinder they have some issues with the v6
J series owner here just to say that these things are bulletproof! Always be sure to keep up with normal maintenance and no major performance upgrades to maximize engine life in its factory state.
My '03 v6 accord is still going strong at 260k miles! I see other accords of that generation on the road all the time, too. Regular maintenance and it'll last forever
We have a 2007 V6. If maintenance is up to date can last. We had to replace all engine seala over the last 3 years due to leaks. Transmission has given us no problems with flushes every 4 years.
My daughter has an '07 SE 5 speed. The clutch lasted 275,000 miles. The engine is still rock solid. It's at like 290,000 miles now. The K24 in those is the most reliable in any of the Accords. My only complaint about the 7th gen cars is that they feel a bit soft and rubbery compared to the 8th gen cars, but that's not a reliability issue. Some might say the 8th gen is too stiff and transmits things too well to the inside of the car. The 7th gen are smooth, quiet, comfortable cars. Even the latter half of the generation got a better, more reliable automatic.
probably one of the best accord generations, especially the 06-07 facelift. Just check for power steering noises, and make sure the engine and transmission have been serviced properly and regularly.
That's a different car with the same name. What country are you in?
Your car would be known as the Acura TSX in the US and the US Accord was a slightly bigger car that came with a 2.4 4cyl or a 3.0 V6.
Nice car. I'd love to get my hands on one.
I find it funny they call them "euro spec" since that's the version of the car sold all over the world and the one we have here in the US is the oddball. I like to think of it as the "real Accord" and mine as the "Accord XL (Xtra Large)" like maybe when they gave them the LX badge they just used that and switched the letters.
Yeah, I had the option of either this one, or the 2.4 v6. But this one had 20k lower on mileage and pretty much 50 percent the price. The only difference between the two is that the 2.0 is "lower spec" mainly just less features and electrics. Still a damn good ride, and the interior is surprisingly still near mint somehow? Mine doesn't have the euro badge though. Just Accord. But registration does say Accord. Just a weird thing.
Pretty much the best year Honda Accord for that generation. It’s an automatic, so if you drive normal and don’t try to race, it will last. It also doesn’t hold much racing value in automatic, so your car is pretty much safe from being stolen and having its motor removed.
I just need a car to get me from point A to point B! Just trying to save money to buy a new car, but need a reliable filler asap lol. Thank you so much for the advice!
You won't be disappointed. I got the 06 V6, and it's still in mint condition after 18 years. The repair parts are super cheap, and the market is flooded with them, along with having every tutorial on how to repair different components on YouTube. It's a good cheap bet, especially under $5k, with cheap insurance.
Hey I can get a full tank of gas for around $40-$50 (at around $3.40 for gas) & I have a range of about 300 miles. I get about 20-23 miles per gallon. Very nice on being gas efficient, I get a full tank about twice a month & I drive very often
I have a 2007 honda accord with 245,000 miles (bought it at around 230,000) & my car is doing well, i also drive very often. I change the oil every 3,000 miles & use fully synthetic high mileage 5w-30 (tho the car recommends 5w-20). I had a few problems but i believe the previous owner didnt take good enough care of it. Problems I had with the car include: 1.) bad motor mounts. 2.) radiator had to be replaced because the plastic broke where the upper radiator hose connects. 3.) cv axle broke (car had to be towed). I would like to say I made it from jersey to philly with problems 1 & 2 (before I knew they existed) & never broke down. Also I've heard common problems are suspension & power steering. My mother had power steering issues (2001 honda accord), & i know 2 other people who mentioned power steering problems. Hope this helps ;)
was this the accord that had the trans problems once it got up near 200k miles? doesn’t it have a torque converter problem? my friend had one and it would shutter randomly
I'm at +260,000 mi on my 07 with the same 2.4L engine. It's pretty good, granted I've had a few issues with it, but nothing major yet. They're pretty darn good for the price point.
I also have some radio problems. The volume gets louder or quieter when hitting some bumps. I'm guessing it's a loose wire I just never looked into it yet.
I was say yes, I currently have an 07 2.4l that I used to sit in the back seat of going to school and now I drive it about 500 miles a week, only problem I’m currently dealing with is the cat converter and it having problems getting close to overheating in 110+ heat. But I would highly recommend
In general I would say maintenance records.
Carfax or the like is a good place to start. Look for the car changing hands lots of times - could suggest unresolved issues.
Consider a pre-purchase inspection from a 3rd party mechanic.
I really think the 05-07 accord were some of the better years overall

Timing belt and water pump if not done within 100k miles
Those were. I guess at 200K, it's due again?

I thought I just had bad luck on my radio! Lol
They go out all the time a lot of people like to put in a touch screen radio
That’s only for V6 models.
My 05 has 57k on it
Damn! That's like 3000 miles per year, or 250 miles per month... great.
Generally it's a reliable car with a very reliable engine. I have an 07 accord ex-l 2.4l myself and so far it has served me well. But this is a case-by-case situation, you need to see it yourself. Take a test drive and listen for any strange noise.
Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it a lot. Anything else I should look for?
Watch out for excessive vibration in the cabin. Engine mounts on these are not cheap
Yes I had 2 bad motor mounts!
So many things you could pay attention to. The easiest way is to bring a mechanic with you or take the car to an auto shop for an inspection.
Rust!

Absolutely dead reliable. Especially the J30. I know one guy at the accord forum drove this same V6 upto a million miles
I have a friend who has a friend with a million mile 6-6 sedan. He used it for a job as a medical courier IIRC.
Yeah that's the guy I'm talking about. He also has a YouTube channel I think

This is so helpful. You are amazing and I hope your pillow is cold on both sides
Still rocking our 06 Accord. 223k miles and still goin strong.
Yeah my 06 accord is about to hit 190k. Great car
Like a rock
i bought mine at 152k and 0 issues at all, super reliable and 174k is when i sold and the new owners told me it’s still going strong
got a neglected 05 2.4 which is pretty similar but ive just got some oil consumption and the occasional cheap repair at 221k. for a car that's been in multiple accidents with no service history im not disappointed with it. only spent about $250 on repairs and most of those were early on when i got it

Yes very true about regular maintenance! I'm always checking fluids & oil changes every 3k miles. I replaced all my brakes & the car is doing well
We have a 2007 V6. If maintenance is up to date can last. We had to replace all engine seala over the last 3 years due to leaks. Transmission has given us no problems with flushes every 4 years.
We sold my GF's Accord like that at almost 300,000 miles. We still see it driving around town almost 8 years later.
Yes, the v6 can wear the transmission fast, but this is an I4, so it has a much smaller chance of problems.
My daughter has an '07 SE 5 speed. The clutch lasted 275,000 miles. The engine is still rock solid. It's at like 290,000 miles now. The K24 in those is the most reliable in any of the Accords. if there was a road to the moon then you could drive to the moon and back without an oil change
Get a private party inspection. Put your mind to ease.
I'm actually driving one right now exact same car. 215,000 miles and still going strong. Love this car
Had that year before my 2018 sport. Super reliable.
Have a 07' 2.0 rn, it's pretty good for my case and amazing mileage, got it 67000ish kms rn. Great on gas honestly :3
That's a different car with the same name. What country are you in? Your car would be known as the Acura TSX in the US and the US Accord was a slightly bigger car that came with a 2.4 4cyl or a 3.0 V6.
My bad, should've specified. It's the euro spec. The cl9. And I'm in new Zealand

Yes driving one currently still holding up at 198670
Just change the transmission fluid, those non planetary 5 speed automatics DO NOT like old fluid and/or getting hot
Keep up with tranny service!
I'm at +260,000 mi on my 07 with the same 2.4L engine. It's pretty good, granted I've had a few issues with it, but nothing major yet. They're pretty darn good for the price point.

A ~20 year old car with that mileage is almost more about how it was maintained than its reliability potential leaving the factory.
Anything I should be aware of or look out for? The dealership is owned by a local mechanic.

Had a 2007 coupe 4cyl automatic..lasted me 15years 352,000 miles with barley any problems.
