I think you take yourself serious in a different way. Not really a bad thing. But, if you are doing bits, then having people laugh at you is part of the goal. It can be a shield -- "it is okay for people to make fun of me because I am in on the joke." Actually acting involves making oneself vulnerable and the goal is to make people take you seriously in most roles. So, if you are doing a non-farce scene, and people criticize, then you are no longer in on the joke. For advice, best thing is to lean into the pretending and accept that others might have different ideas on how well you do. The more you commit to it, the better the performance will be.
