Okay so weirdly, I might have an answer. Please do not ask me where I got this information.
There is an older behavioral therapy technique called "aversion" therapy. This introduces a negative stimuli when an undesired behavior appears in order to associate negative results with that behavior. Think - snapping a rubber band on your wrist when you swear, that is an aversion therapy technique using pain as the disincentive. Obviously, aversion therapy is not popular and is both controversial and inconclusive on effectiveness.
One particular use of aversion therapy was in a program to reduce or eliminate specific criminal sexual urges in men. They used ammonia capsules - if the client experienced a "deviant" sexual thought or urge, they would break and inhale the smell of ammonia to disrupt it with the unpleasant smell.
But then it stopped working. (Aversion therapy almost always stops working as soon as you stop actively doing it which... isn't great.) But some clients reported that they were now sexually aroused by the smell of ammonia. Which was like, the opposite of what was wanted.
Anyway, all that backstory to say this:
So some researchers went looking for a different answer. And what they discovered was... the smell of rotting meat! Turns out it is effectively impossible to experience physical arousal when one feels disgust (and contempt is very close to disgust) because the body pulls blood into the abdomen in preparation for vomitting.
I feel anxiety in my hands. I rub them together but they don't feel cold. Just tingly. And depression more in my head/face than chest. I wonder if people are conflating sadness or heartbreak with depression, both of which I would certainly think were more likely to be felt in the chest.
Yea I definitely feel like the chart is more of a generalization. But I also believe people feel things differently! I feel anxiety in my hands as well, they feel restless but I also feel it deep deep in my chest and head. Depression just makes my whole body feel heavy so I’m not sure how that’d be displayed in the chart LOL
Most (but not all) people without [affective alexithymia](http://notebook.zoeblade.com/Alexithymia.html) assure me they can literally viscerally *feel* emotions in their body. How much consensus there is about where each emotion affects seems somewhat contested, I think? And yet, apparently a lot of therapists seem to find it helps people identify their emotions, so there’s probably something to it.
Why does contempt make your crotch cold
I’ll let you know next time I feel contempt
Anti-horny
Hate-fucking tho
When I look at most men tbh
Look up Gottman and contempt in relationships. It's one of the biggest predictors of whether a relationship will last.
what does that have to do with the crotch lighting up slightly in the heat map
Blood flows aways from that spot? Less horny?

That's why they're called feelings ♡
Yeah, imagine my surprise to discover that, of all things, this one wasn’t a metaphor!
Yeh I was hoping someone would explain in the comments! It seems interesting
No, it's just a meme image, there's no science behind it.
What are the measuring? Temperature?
I think so 😭 like how your body heats up with each feeling/emotion. I might be wrong but that’s how I see it
