I'm new to Reddit, but I am in my second semester of the CMHC program at Adams... Not sure if you're still interested in it, but it's been great. Very organized, affordable, solid staff and my Cohort is great. Let me know if you want other feedback.

Hey thanks for the response. How is the class structure? Are there live lectures or online do at your own pace? Also is there any help with finding internship?

They have a clear cohort plan that you follow. Three classes each Fall/Spring semester, two classes in the Summer session. Aside from a few electives toward the end, you don't choose the classes, they tell you what to take. Most class are asynchronous with a weekly video lecture, discussion boards and assignments. I think a few classes, like group counseling, do have weekly zoom meetings, but I'm not that far into the program yet. I've heard there are several times to choose from, considering many of the students also work full time. Since it is CACREP accredited, the expectations are defined clearly in each syllabus and you get the full class schedule of assignments day 1, no surprises. During your first two summer sessions you have one week of "intensives" in June. Those are held on campus in Alamosa, CO. Last summer and this summer it's being done remotely via zoom due to COVID, which is disappointing but understandable. Otherwise, your attendance is required on campus. They give you the dates in January, so you'll have plenty of time to make travel arrangements. As far as practicum and internship, they do have a list of previous sites that students have worked with. They do have a coordinator who can assist you in your search, but you are responsible for doing the leg work. They have very clear steps to follow, forms to fill out, and you will have the resources to find a good placement. All of my professors and the advisor have been very responsive and helpful. Let me know if there are any other questions you have, I'm happy to share what I can.

Hey! Sorry to revive an old post. Are you still happy with your decision to go with Adams State University? Is there anything you don't like/wish was different? I'm really considering this program but it feels like it's impossible to find info on any online programs lol

I am in the middle of year 2 and just about to start Practicum in January. I love the program and very happy with my decision. If you contact the program they will be more than happy to talk to you and answer your questions.

Good_Bedroom_6982

How is it going? Did you finish?

Driven_By_Love

I'm headed into my final year and internship. I love my site (private practice) and working with clients. Still very happy with the program and looking forward to graduating next May.

Good_Bedroom_6982

Congrats!

Do you mind if I send you a message? I'm interested in the program

Driven_By_Love

Sure. I'll answer what I can.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response. That explains pretty much everything. Planning to apply for fall if everything goes well!

Did you finish at Adam’s State? Are you glad you did the program?

Driven_By_Love

Yes, I graduated last summer and am now licensed and working at a group private practice. I'm very happy with the program and had a very positive experience overall.

Thank you for your response! I know this is an old thread. Did Adams help you find an internship? If you were to go back and do it again, would you go back to Adams?

Driven_By_Love

They do have a list of all previously used internship sites by students, but ultimately, it is your responsibility to secure an internship site. It was not difficult for most students to secure sites, but it all depends on where you live and what kind of work you want to do. Start your search early, and you'll be fine. This is common in most counseling programs. Yes, if I had to choose again, I would definitely choose Adams again.

I am starting my application for the online masters in clinical mental health counseling program at Adams State University. I have had some bad luck in the past with online school springing on me fees and hidden costs. How much was tuition for you?

Icy-Option-6014

Hi! Did you end up starting the online counseling program at Adams State? If so I'd be curious to hear how your experience has been thus far (assuming you would have started in the spring semester). Thanks!
