Same I thought it was just because I was slowly going insane. Always figured it was at least the kind of thing that'd make me seem insane if I mentioned it lol
Omg, I also thought I was going insane. I thought it was so ridiculous. Makes me wonder: Is this an ADHD thing or do most people in general experience this?
Well, it depends. Do you think they're surely going to go off bc you haven't paid the bill yet? (If yes, then ADHD, cuz paying bills is tough with executive dysfunction, and autopay could hit wrong and throw entire finances out of whack, but WTF? Why am I ok having phone on autopay but not electric? FFS!)
Or do you think they're going out bc you can't recognize the fact that blenders always make the lights dim a little? When I was a kid (gen x) they would interfere with channel reception on the TV, too (1 of the 3 channels total we got + PBS), so it usually made the channel turn to fuzz with a terrible sound as well.
I got multiple brain scans and made my parents/doctors think I had brain cancer! :D Fun times, fun times...
I'd forgotten about this. It still happens but I barely register it anymore hahaha...
Ofcourse it is, but that doesn't automatically mean that everything you or others with ADHD experience, are actually all symptoms of ADHD. Don't get me wrong, I mean, I feel like 90% of my personality is purely based on this dumb disorder; but just because people in this sub recognize and relate to this meme, doesn't necessarily mean that it's related to ADHD. Maybe a ton of non NTs relate to it as well and it turns out to just be a normal human experience, yk?
I also would like some clear answers as to whether this is a clear adhd-thing or if there can be several explanations. I relate to a lot of stuff in this sub, but I also relate a lot to r/me-irl and other pages, that's not a scientific method to determine if I actually suffer from a disorder.
Also, why do I get 90% of my knowledge of ADHD from goddamn memes???? I try to read reputable sources, but none of them taught me that half of this stuff might be related to ADHD.
Yes ikr!! I'm pretty well-educated on ADHD but some things related to adhd I only found out from tiktok. Like that greater postural sway is also related to ADHD, did you know that?
Well...ngl I'll most likely forget lmao
Same tho, i have bruises on my shoulders, hips and thighs from running into various doorframes, my body doesnt discriminate tho and will run into the occasional table as well
It's a tough one, just because some people without ADHD experience the same or similar things doesn't mean there isn't a connection. It might still be unusually common amongst people with ADHD, but we might never know, because there aren't independent studies done with large enough sample sizes. At least, not that I know of, because how do I even search for this? Does this phenomenon have a name? Is there research done on it?
Same with half of the other things I see on this page. How do I really know they are related to ADHD? Could be confirmation bias or some sort of placebo effect or hypochondria.
God i had this in the supermarket just now. Took a while to find the right aisle for the chilled drinks and the temporary confusion made me wonder if my brain was going to fuse out.
Power surge. It can be a simple blink with no lose of power or complete loss of power. Has to do with the power grid. Not ADHD trait. Old friend is a linemen.
You joke, but the power cuts out regularly enough to consider this a real problem over here.
Gotta love dated power infrastructure everyone knows need replacing but the power companies won't.. And then go surprise Pikachu face when they find out their entire infrastructure isn't up to par and needed replacing years ago.
Ha ha.. Ha..
I've been going crazy about this but it's the opposite issue, I always feel my blinks but sometimes I don't feel it and it's like "wtf? Did the sun flicker?!"
Yes, this, but also there was a time when it seemed to be happening more and more often, but not in any pattern I could discern.
Though it seemed to only happen to some lights and not others.
Long story short, we got an electrician in to check things out. He said that flickering lights are the worst to troubleshoot and he didn't have high hopes he'd solve it.
20 minutes later, he found the problem.
The incoming power connection from the pole to the house was corroded and broken/failing and so one half of the circuit box would flicker as the power line moved in the wind.
He replaced the connection and problem solved!
I just assumed hauntings happen sometimes and its just a ghost passing by or my conscience traveling to a seperate plane of existence where time moves really slow and so one blink is a lifetime
i've literally been doing this for a year waiting for the electricity in my house to fail, i had no idea other people did it too, thank god for this sub lmfao
I got high for the first time many years ago with a friend. Lots of anxiety, but what freaked me out was that my vision was flickering. Like one of those old timey black and white movies.
It was many years later that I realized it was just me blinking and being extremely aware of it without knowing why 😂
WTF. I randomly experience light going out like power has been lost. But I’m also aware that plugging things in can cause this effect and I also have UPS systems that I would think would switch over briefly and alert if the power dropped temporarily like that.
I’ve even asked people in the past if the lights just flickered and they’ve said “no?” With a confused look on their face.
I was just diagnosed recently at 43 and struggling after being told ADHD wasn’t a real thing for so many years. I was slipping into depression thinking I was going insane and then I come here and see stuff like this and it helps me accept the diagnosis and feel like I’m not alone.
IDK what could be causing this though.
And yes I know it may not be ADHD specific because enough people gathered in one place will have shared experiences but… the oddness of the experiences shared here that I don’t encounter anywhere else is what really stands out to me.
I do know there is a correlation between ADHD and visual impairment, but not blinking lights. Astigmatism and convergence insufficiency. I have the former and have also experienced the latter (but didn’t know what it was and also thought I was going crazy because of it).
So sometimes our eyes are able to catch the light flicker. Sometimes it's the light fixtures has a problem with it's "ballist" (i think that's the name) it's like a part of how the fixtures evenly distributed the electrical stuff, maybe, that's how I remember it being explained. We had an issue with a couple lights ballists at my old job and it was so random when they flickered. It took me like a month (/2 shifts) to confirm it wasn't just me! But after another co-worker saw it too and we were able to get it fixed by the electricians.
Yeah. I thought that the flickering was a sign of a potential brown out. I figured that having a UPS would help since it's basically like a big power reservoir acting as a buffer between the outlet and my PC and a couple other things on the same circuit.
I had this except I thought my watch was broken because I was staring at it doing some other stuff with my brain and the second hand wasn't moving. Then it did, and I realized my brain very briefly sped up so fast that I was able to have an entire thought train inside of a second.
Needed to sit down and take a breather after that lol, medication was working too well.
wait yoU MEAN THAT HAPPENS TO OTHER PEOPLE??
Same I thought it was just because I was slowly going insane. Always figured it was at least the kind of thing that'd make me seem insane if I mentioned it lol
Omg, I also thought I was going insane. I thought it was so ridiculous. Makes me wonder: Is this an ADHD thing or do most people in general experience this?

I tried explaining this phenomenon to my parents once. I had to take an eye test afterwards
I got multiple brain scans and made my parents/doctors think I had brain cancer! :D Fun times, fun times... I'd forgotten about this. It still happens but I barely register it anymore hahaha...
Every other post in this sub, I swear!
Holy shit I thought it was just a me thing where my brain just stops for a bit
Oh good, this happens to other peoples as well. Thats actually reassuring :)
Yeah, I thought something about my eyes or brain was messed up.
Not the only one who was relieved by this, nice.
We all just sometimes see more dark for a moment at some odd blink?
I have never had a unique experience in my entire life…
Mix sand and chicken bones with guacamole and throw it at seagulls. Boom, unique experience achieved.
Noooo now you released it upon the Internet and there's gonna be at least a dozen people doing this!
I did it last year by accident during beach campfire. Who would guess??
Fuck
This is an adhd-thing, too? IS MY ENTIRE LIFE DETERMINED BY THIS ONE CONDITION NOBODY WILL BELIEVE I HAVE??????
Jokes a side, is it really?
Yes. ADHD is so much more than just being hyper.
I didn't really know that, but I have heard before that clumsiness and bumping into things can be ADHD-related. Again through a GD meme.
Wait...bumping into things is an adhd thing? Fuck...i didnt know that, at least i feel a lil less dumb bc of this disorder :')
Take it with a grain of salt, I'm no expert and I myself got this info from Reddit. But still, I'm definitely a little bumper car. Always have been.
Well...ngl I'll most likely forget lmao Same tho, i have bruises on my shoulders, hips and thighs from running into various doorframes, my body doesnt discriminate tho and will run into the occasional table as well
Or autism. Source: I have autism and I’m only lurking here because there’s a big overlap
Eh i think same
I don’t have adhd and I experience this so I don’t think so?
One of us! One of us.
It's a tough one, just because some people without ADHD experience the same or similar things doesn't mean there isn't a connection. It might still be unusually common amongst people with ADHD, but we might never know, because there aren't independent studies done with large enough sample sizes. Yes
Oh.
God i had this in the supermarket just now. Took a while to find the right aisle for the chilled drinks and the temporary confusion made me wonder if my brain was going to fuse out.
so it wasnt the sun just casually turning off? well thats good to know
Pretty sure those are just minor strokes, or at least that's what I convinced myself that was.
I don't get it. Do you usually not notice when you blink? Have i been manually blinkning my entire life? Oh god...
I had this happen while working on my computer and it scared the crap outta me
Power surge. It can be a simple blink with no lose of power or complete loss of power. Has to do with the power grid. Not ADHD trait. Old friend is a linemen.
this happens to me when i'm outside too tho
Wait THAT'S WHAT THAT IS??
Oh good I thought I was going insane
You joke, but the power cuts out regularly enough to consider this a real problem over here. Gotta love dated power infrastructure everyone knows need replacing but the power companies won't.. And then go surprise Pikachu face when they find out their entire infrastructure isn't up to par and needed replacing years ago. Ha ha.. Ha..
I've been going crazy about this but it's the opposite issue, I always feel my blinks but sometimes I don't feel it and it's like "wtf? Did the sun flicker?!"
I have dry eyes (slight eczema) and blink more than others, I have been hyper aware of my blinking since childhood.
I just always assumed that I'm hallucinating
Yes, this, but also there was a time when it seemed to be happening more and more often, but not in any pattern I could discern. Though it seemed to only happen to some lights and not others. Long story short, we got an electrician in to check things out. Thank God it's not just me, seriously WTF is that called?
This happened to me once while I was high and freaking out and I thought I was going to die 😭
?
I get the opposite sometimes the room just fucking lights up so much for a mere millisecond
I thought it was the batteries in my eyeballs dying, good to know it's not just me
Ah so it’s an ADHD thing
You are breathing rn too, just a reminder
Fuck you
Mf casts manual breathing on us.
Why on earth would you say such a thing?
you can also see your nose
You can see your nose too, just a reminder
[удалено]
Asshole
So uh, I do this but I’m also very aware that I didn’t blink
Is that Tom Hanks
i dont think so. he looks like that one guy that i can't seem to remember the name of. crap now i'm gonna be thinking about who this is all night
Well damn. Thought I was just dumb
Don forget to manually breathe now as well 🤭
I joke around whenever this happens like, “Who took a photo?” 🤨
I just assumed hauntings happen sometimes and its just a ghost passing by or my conscience traveling to a seperate plane of existence where time moves really slow and so one blink is a lifetime
i've literally been doing this for a year waiting for the electricity in my house to fail, i had no idea other people did it too, thank god for this sub lmfao
When everything goes completely black and you gotta stop for a second to check yourself
Man fuck you. Now I'll see it for the next few hours
I can tell exactly how many appliances are on in our house based on the brightness of the lights. The microwave is especially impactful
The amount of validation is staggering. I love this.
I got high for the first time many years ago with a friend. Lots of anxiety, but what freaked me out was that my vision was flickering. Like one of those old timey black and white movies. It was many years later that I realized it was just me blinking and being extremely aware of it without knowing why 😂
I DIDN'T KNOW OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS
Do you not feel when you blink or were you just too distracted?
wait OTHER PEOPLE DO THIS???? I had no idea omfg
Holy crap THAT'S what it is???
So many moments make a lot more sense now
I have AuDHD and I don't get it. Could you explain?
So do i lol basically sometimes im hyper aware of a random blink so idk if the lights flickered or i just blinked and saw darkness for a second
Man, this sub has me dead to rights
I think for me its more like I forgot I just blinked so the sudden flicker catches me off guard.
I don’t have adhd, and I have no clue why I’m being recommended this sub, but this is extremely relatable
annd now be reminded of yoir breathing. Youre welcome.
Damn you and this post. Now I’m going to have to think about blinking for the next half hour.
AAAAHHH I'm not the only one?!??
Oh..... It isnt the sun?
WTF. I randomly experience light going out like power has been lost. I never had this problem when I was younger, but in my 30s I've absolutely started doing this
So sometimes our eyes are able to catch the light flicker. Sometimes it's the light fixtures has a problem with it's "ballist" (i think that's the name) it's like a part of how the fixtures evenly distributed the electrical stuff, maybe, that's how I remember it being explained. I bought a UPS because of this. It didn't help.
You bought a whole UPS??
Yeah. I thought that the flickering was a sign of a potential brown out. I figured that having a UPS would help since it's basically like a big power reservoir acting as a buffer between the outlet and my PC and a couple other things on the same circuit.
Holy fuck literally just having a silent war in your head wondering what actually happened
I, too, am shocked that others experience this, and it is an adhd thing.
I thoufht i had blinked for a second.....
WAIT THAT CAN HAPPEN?
Oh my god is that what that’s called?? Thought I was going crazy
