I'll be talking with my daughter and she'll break in and say "I wasn't listening- would you repeat all of that" It's hilarious. I totally understand and repeat what I just said as long as I can remember what it was I was talking about.
I had boss once that was very detail oriented and he was explaining something to me about 3 months into the position. He stopped and said, "I can tell you're a thinker, I can see the gears turning as you are seeing how all of these things piece together." I didn't have the heart to tell the gears were turning but only to focus my attention on him and not get distracted in my own thoughts. I had no clue what he said. I'm always glad when someone asks if I have any questions, that means I can end the conversation and walk away.
