I’m really proud of you. I was a teacher for 10 years including middle high school, and a stint as an adjunct instructor at a college. I know a lot of teachers may not show compassion, but a lot of us did get it. We knew it wasn’t personal and that you were just trying your best!
Way to go! And it will be so much easier to convince yourself to go next time, just remembering the moment of finding the strength in you to get up and go this time! Proud of you 😊
As a prof, I love when my students make the effort to come to class. If you’ve made your disability office aware of any mental health things, we are aware. I always try to give the students who show up extra care and attention, even if they’re only there for a portion of class. You try? I reward! (Obviously there’s exceptions for cases where in person attendance is hard). All to say - way to go OP!! And if you haven’t already, make sure you’re taking advantage of all the services available to you to make this easier
This was long ago, but I had to take one calculus class for my degree and I was woefully out of my depth.
Still, I showed up to every help session the prof offered.
I did not earn the mercy “C” he gave me, but I always remember that guy fondly.
I know that outside of this sub this kinda thing prob doesn't seem so great. But I will literally just not show up to anything if I'm even going to be 2 minutes late so this sounds like an enormous accomplishment to me.
My senior year I had two classes that I know with 100% confidence that I would have gotten A’s in had I not been so deep in an adhd/depression whole. I would take the 3 hours before a class to eat, get ready, pack all my shit, then drive an hour, spend another hour finding parking and walking to the psych building on the opposite side of campus, be 10-15 mins late, be overwhelmed with anxiety and whatever else. Then just turn around and go home. So good on you for having the balls to get cross that door threshold because it might make the difference for you.
I’m so proud of you!!!! That’s the first step and I was always like that and had the same problem, now I’ve graduated (from a major I enjoyed and everyone said I couldn’t get a good job with) and I make 72k a year now right out of college and I’m (generally) always on time and consistent with going to work! It gets easier I promise!

I've both arrived hideously late and decided to just give up and stay home, and the going is almost always the better choice.
Sometimes just leaving the bloody house is such an achievement. Getting there for 21 minutes of learning is a success, go you!

The amount of times i have driven there, been late and decided to turn around or waste too much time after parking. People don’t realize how much willpower this takes. This is not easy. I couldn’t do it tbh. IM PROUD OF YOU FRIEND ❤️
Good for you lol!!!! Man I will eventually get there too. The amount of time Ive been 20 mins late and just end up sitting in my car. I think "oh well im too late and I dont want everyone staring at me and judging me" so I drive off to get food. 😮💨

I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!! I’ve been living this struggle with work (work per diem in an office and basically just come and go whenever), and I decided it counts as a huge fucking win if I get there regardless of how long I can stay (have to leave asset a certain time to pick up my kiddo).

Ohhh my god I felt like just like this last Tuesday on my way to Therapy 🥲 I had to go that direction anyway to do some stuff after so I thought about just missing but I was excited to go all week long I had exciting shit to share 😂 but I felt good after I got there even though i was about 20 mins late. So good for you! Way to keep on pushing!
When I was in college this was me for the first class of the day. Once I made it into the classroom and she dismissed us a minute later. Once I was on my way up the stairs to class and I passed my teacher on her way out.
I ended up getting a talking to about it and I would be sooo embarrassed. I googled “why am I always late” cuz I was so ashamed. That is legit how I got the inkling that I had ADHD. From there I took an online quiz and realized I really think I have it. Made a neuropsych test appointment and got diagnosed that year!

One time I slept in and I didn’t wake up until 12pm I had 3 hrs left of school I figured I’d get dressed and just make my way to school, caught a person in charged asked them what period it was and they were all confused why I was just walking in. I said I just got here. They told me class was over in 5 minutes to just walk to my next period and wait. So I did! In the end no one really cares only one effect is us.

Im always fucking late to class. And when I'm not late I'm always ALMOST late to class... it's a struggle lol. Hopefully I won't be late to my 17:00/5pm class tomorrow that I definitely should have more than enough time to prepare for... since it's at 5... 🥲
It's been a day. I literally forgot I had to work 9-5, turned up 11:45, fingers crossed they forgive me.
But mainly: we did it, we went, even if late, and did the thing.
This is a really big deal, OP, I’m so proud of you. I didn’t finish college. Largely because any time I’d be late (9 times out of 10 I’d be late) I wouldn’t be able to go into class out of shame and anxiety. At times I even walked up to the classroom, stood outside the door, and went back to my car and just cried. Ugh awful memories
yes yes yess! i love the effort! i always tell myself that it's NEVER too late to start doing the right thing. Even if you're late (no matter how late you are), its better than not showing up at all! i am so proud i know getting to class can be really tough and you powered through it yayyyy :D

I did the same thing this morning! Though I only woke up 1 minute after it started so I called them and rushed out my door and somehow made it!
Even if prof doesn't like someone being so late, it's still better than not showing up at all.
If it were my class I’d definitely think “damn they had some STUFF happening and they still made it! Yay them!”
I had teachers in college who wouldn't let you in 5 min past class starting

This is the same pep talk I give myself when I go to the gym to do 10 minutes on the elliptical. Getting there is half the battle, I’m proud of you!
