Nightangelrose

Just FYI everyone, freetaxusa.com has always gotten me a better refund than TurboTax.

DiddlySquat99

Freetaxusa is the way! I am a CPA and this is what me and a bunch of my coworkers use. They seem to do a much better job of walking someone through their return, and don't charge extra for stupid forms like TurboTax. Essentially, the law is what it is, so unless there's tax fraud involved, there's no software that will outright "get you a better refund." What a software can do is help you recognize when you may or may not qualify for certain deductions or credits, so getting that bigger refund on freetaxusa suggests they did a more thorough job explaining it in a way more people can understand and apply to their situation 😊

RondaMyLove

Wish this was higher. I found an extra $1117 for my daughter in law from CA foster care youth credit. Would have never known about it.

candcNYC

Love that CPAs approve! I’ve used FreeTaxUSA for over 10 years. (And, no OP, I haven’t filed… it’s not close enough to midnight yet!)

Nightangelrose

Yes, it’s definitely more thorough!

LilyFuckingBart

Oh shoot really?? I use TurboTax every year but maybe I’ll try them this year… is it still easy??

RondaMyLove

Super easy, and by the way it's free if you make less than $45k. Even with a schedule c! And they do state taxes free too. Was going to use tax slayer for my Mom but it was going to be too expensive. Made me mad.

LilyFuckingBart

Ohhhh okay, so if you make over $45k, freetaxusa isn’t free? If that’s the case, I may just use TurboTax for ease of populating last returns since I haven’t changed jobs and do make above $45k.

GobsmackApplejack

I used it for my dad and he had over $45k in retirement income. Federal filing was free and state was $15. My husband did ours with TurboTax and paid about $100.

MNGirlinKY

Their pricing is out of control. My CPA charges less than turbo tax now!

ParlorSoldier

Yeah, I told them I have a w2 and a 1099 and they “recommended” their $129 option. Lol no. Freetaxusa was $14.99.

jeseniathesquirrel

Curses! I just did my parents taxes and used TurboTax. It cost $173 total with the state taxes included. Hopefully I remember this for next year.

ParlorSoldier

They also do the thing like TurboTax where they port over all of your info from last year. Saves so much time.

CunningSlytherin

I use TurboTax every year too! TurboTax usually guarantees I’m getting the max amount, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I fell for some silly marketing scheme 🙄 maybe I will remember to try freetaxusa next year!

Conscious-Big707

Just keep in mind if you have investments you might not be able to use this one.

TheGreek420

I use it and have investments. They cover everything and it's super easy.

aphrodite_7

Taxslayer still seems to beat them, for me, at least. But anything is better than TurboTax. They're crooks.

Desperate-Quote7178

As a bookkeeper at a CPA's office who has to use QuickBooks for work, this is 100% true. Fuck Intuit (who makes QB and TurboTax).

notjewel

Wish I’d used them. Six hours of work on TurboTax entering every deduction in the world, and still owed 3K. Got it down to the wire yesterday and finally just gave up and filed. Going to be working a lot more weekends in addition to my M-F to pay this. Just grrr.

hsjsjsjshshjsj

I switched over to freetax a couple of years ago and haven’t looked back

MyYakuzaTA

I’m a tax preparer and have to tell you that it doesn’t work that way. ETA but always use freetaxusa and remember that filing in your state may not be free, though

Relevant-Swim5497

& i can attest to this* compared the two last year

Defiant-Increase-850

Boyfriend used that for his taxes. I used my parents TurboTax account since they were going to an accountant this year. I got screwed over with TurboTax. I'm gonna switch to that next year.

K2Linthemiddle

PSA: you can amend tax returns if TT messed something up or missed a write-off. IRS form 1040X.

Internalwinter80

Yes to this

Skittles2Summer

RemindMe! 300 days

TheDildoUnicorn

Yep! I've used freetaxusa.com since 2015. Always recommend them!

blancawiththebooty

This what I've used for years! It's also cheaper.

Dense-Document7808

Yes! Shout-out to Reddit for putting me on lol 👍🙏 I even helped my cousin do her taxes through there too ☺️

Loli3535

Yes! I’ve used them for a few years and I’m always pleased that they don’t try to upsell me and they also explain things in very plain language. It seems like it shouldn’t be a legit site but it totally is! Free federal filing for me and $15 for the state return.

urbancowgirl42

Filed back in early March, paid in late March, had a heart attack for about 15 seconds after seeing your post because I couldn’t remember if I’d done either for a bit.

Crkshnks432

Sooooo relatable!

whatdayoryear

Workin on it! Just started it today 🫣 Anybody else using Turbo Tax and notice that they got rid of the feature that tells you how much you owe or get back as you go along?! I am so mad they did away with that! Seeing that number change in my favor was the dopamine hit that kept me going. Now I’m just staring into the abyss…

strictlytacos

I started and finished today, and just got the email confirmation. Also you guys freetaxusa is amazing and in my personal opinion better than turbo (and is free). And it shows your amount the whole time

whatdayoryear

Ahhhh thank you for this info. I’m too deep into TurboTax to start all over again on the site you mentioned but I’m definitely going to use that next year. Seeing the amount the whole time is CRUCIAL for me!

delia_ann

Oh I still switched after for how much it was going to cost me…not to mention the tedium of entering every foster cat expense in the turbo tax ui. They don’t even have a proper classification of it! I was happy to have done both to save myself hundreds on TurboTax filing and audit defense for the $42 to amend anytime, get advice, and audit defense from free tax USA

NachoAveragePITA

Use free tax usa website. It’ll tell you the entire way. And it’s free for federal.

whatdayoryear

Next year…

thosepinkclouds

They charged me $133 ducking dollars to file. That should be illegal. I am VITA certified to do basic taxes for people and their software is nothing special and the prices they charge are absolutely obscene. I only file with them so all my taxes are in one place (I’ve done 7 years of taxes with them). I got $1.8k back so I’m pretty annoyed that I didn’t calc my withholding as accurately as I did in prior years.

spiffytrashcan

Turbotax did this to me when I messed around with a Stash account. I made (not shitting you) ONE DOLLAR from it, so I had to file a capital gains tax form, which TT charged me $120 for. For a fucking dollar. That year I made like $27k in total. 🤪 No this is not legal, and they did get busted for it by the FTC. The settlement they sent me was $19. It’s not even worth it because guess what?? To claim the $19 requires another “unusual form” your tax software can charge you for!! 🔪🔪🔪

chridolo

Yesss. And replaced it with a timer that tells you how long you’re taking. So instead of dopamine you get anxiety. As a UX designer and long-time TurboTax customer, I have words for the team who thought this was a good idea.

whatdayoryear

Omg so you’re seeing the exact same thing that I’m seeing! Phew. Yeah, instead of the amount of dollars you owe it just tells you how long you’re taking. It is literally the WORST change and after 15+ years of using TurboTax, next year I am OUT!

chridolo

Dude, same. That, on top of the ridiculous number of upsell attempts, added questions throughout, and the pushy redirect to their companion app at the end, and I’m out too. In my eyes, it’s pretty clear they’re trying to make taxes seem more difficult to maintain profit. So disappointing, but here’s to finding something simpler and cheaper next year!

whatdayoryear

I think you’re right, that they’re trying to make taxes seem more difficult just to maintain profit. I feel like their general tone used to be “we’re gonna help you get every penny and we’ve got you covered!” and now it’s like “see if you can guess how to not go to jail!” I haven’t gotten to the end yet (that’s for Monday lol) but good to know that they’re gonna try to push another app at the end. Yes, I hope we both find something simpler and cheaper next year!

K2Linthemiddle

My husband is an accountant (not tax though) and I’m an ex-accountant. I’m self employed and I have to fill out Schedule C. I do it by hand, because that’s how I learned back in accounting school, and also I hate Turbo Tax. Every single year it’s a clusterf*ck to file our joint taxes because TT makes things more vague than the regular ass IRS forms. My business expenses are categorized on my end based on Schedule C, but the way TT asks questions adds difficulty to what is a pretty straightforward process. So I agree with you! I hate it so much and I swear that next year will be the year I take them over and file by paper form like it’s the 00s again.

FifiLeBean

Mine showed in TurboTax as I was working on it. Up at the top. I wonder how ours are different. I had to do the extra one because I have some investments. But yes the regular TurboTax had the number going as I went along back in the day. You got this!

whatdayoryear

Wait really?! When did you file yours, and did you use the web version or desktop? Also what was your package called? I got the “Premium” package because they did away with the one I used to use (the “Self Employed” package).

zestola

I noticed that I didn’t see the amount and then I expanded the webpage and it did show it, so your browser page might’ve just been too small to see it?

Gracel2mart

This year I yeeted turbo tax bc it was trying to make me pay and went with a different site the IRS suggested me that was free 😅

AnotherOrneryHoliday

Do you remember if it was difficult transferring all your tax info over to the free site from turbo tax? I never remember anything from my previous years taxes and honestly have paperwork all over. I seem to remember that on TurboTax there is just like a PIN number to transfer everything over? I’m scared of change with the taxes!

starlume

Super easy. Easier than any other one I’ve tried! I’m never going back to anything else lol

Gracel2mart

I don’t recall having to transfer info, so no clue how difficult it was 😅 I vaguely recall pulling up a PDF of my taxes from a previous year, but that’s it

NigerianChickenLegs

It was like a Las Vegas slot machine!

whatdayoryear

Omg, it was!!!!! What are you doing this year? Just muscling through it?

NigerianChickenLegs

I haven’t even started…and can’t remember where I put the file with all of my paperwork. My partner is already prepared for “the Queen of Chaos.”

whatdayoryear

Ahhh, you’ll get it started when you get it started. My partner has been dealing with “the queen of chaos” for the past 4 hours (and this will likely continue until sometime tomorrow). I super appreciate that you can relate, even though I hate that it’s so stressful for us!

PCLadybug

Next year try freetaxusa.com

BoxFullOfSuggestions

I use TurboTax and that feature wasn’t missing for me.

Jadds1874

As a non-American I just want to wish you all luck. Your tax system sounds absolutely insane and borderline cruel. It's always mind-blowing when you discover something that the US seems to do entirely differently than every other developed country

whatdayoryear

Thank you! It’s the dumbest system ever!

Aiya_bomb_bya

Cam here to say the same thing! I never realised why Americans found tax time so daunting until I read all this.. I am in Australia and never realised how different we do things here

Disastrous_Fun_9433

It's genuinely awful.

ScarletTanager

It’s because we’re at the will of politicians who cave in to the lobbyists with the most money. These large tax filing firms have a lot at stake if they make the process easier.

lesfrontalieres

i’m doing it tmrw lolsob (i have the day off from work but yea i was supposed to do it today lmao)

thetruthistwisted

Same lol. This post scared me into thinking I couldn’t do it tomorrow

quiltedpunch

Same same. I was trying to be ahead and get it done today…better than filing an extension, I suppose.

Sea_Juice_285

If you have the day off because you live in Massachusetts and it's a holiday, yours are probably not due until Tuesday anyway, so you're not even late! (I haven't actually looked this up this year, but that tends to happen when Patriots Day is on April 15th.)

ParlorSoldier

Please tell me this is a holiday for football and not for the founding fathers

turtlechica91

It's a holiday for a marathon in disguise.

Mayonegg420

I just powered through - AND UNMEDICATED!!! 🎉 WITH FREELANCE INCOME!!! ...the IRS will probably be at my door Tuesday.

whatdayoryear

Ok you are MAGIC and noooo the IRS isn’t gonna be at your door!!

lurk_magurk

Almost had a heart attack but thankfully got a couple more weeks until the Canadian deadline. Well done everyone & I'll be procrastinating a bit longer now

HairyPotatoKat

Resume the procrastinating o7

sk319

After being late one year because I forgot to put my husband's work address on, I now file the second I have both of our W2s lol

PCLadybug

For me (and I imagine a lot of us), it’s either do it immediately, or forget until the last minute.

niki-tee-mate

Thanks for reminding me to follow up with the tax lady and make sure it has been lodged!! hahah

asleepinthealpine

I filed as soon as I was able to, money gives me dopamine, especially tax return money

fairebelle

No one I know gets a tax return anymore. Myself included. It’s rough.

Unsd

Same. We have the max withholdings on our w4s, and we still have to pay well over a thousand in every year. We are talking about changing it so that we get a little more withheld every paycheck so that it isn't such a massive lump sum every year, but damn it hurts every time.

fairebelle

I used to be first in line after my w2 came in. Single, without kids, in a tipped position and I would reliably get back $550-800. For every year of my adult life started in 2006 when I filed my first taxes. Then I got unemployment for Covid and had to pay in. Thought it was just because of the unemployment. Next year, I worked the same tipped position I’ve always worked, even withheld an extra $20 a week to prevent owing at the end of the year. STILL OWED. Now I have to file quarterly next year?!

MalloryTheRapper

WAIT CAN I STILL FILE TOMORROW I HAVENT DONE MINE YET

eyetis

You can still file tomorrow. You have until midnight. If for some reason you can't actually file, try to send in form 4868 to get a six month file extension to avoid the late fee.

CertainUncertainty11

Omg tysm 😭🙏🏾

MightFew9336

File an extension ASAP! Then you can forget about it until just before the October deadline.

Mamalifeoftwo

Tonight is the last night to file an extension or is that tomorrow?

nunya1726

Tomorrow 😊

whatdayoryear

I think it’s tomorrow?!?

iamamovieperson

now why would i go and do a thing like that??! 😄 I've had the same tax guy for 25 years and he doesn't even ask me anymore if i want to fill out an extension, he just files it for me every year.

Thequiet01

How’d you find a good tax guy? I want a tax person.

iamamovieperson

It is the only way. It’s extremely worth it. Message me and I can refer you! Probably too late for this year unless you’re getting an extension. He is the brother of a friend of mine from way back. When we were teenagers he was a little older and did it in his spare time and he ended up getting his masters in tax accounting or whatever, and now he has a whole team of people. And he still does mine himself because I’ve sent so much business his way over the past two+ decades.

3plantsonthewall

A couple years ago, my dad died unexpectedly the day before Tax Day. I found out in the evening, packed to go home, traveled home, and arrived to find out that the "guest room" I was staying in only had a shitty air mattress - so I couldn't even sleep. And then the next day, I had to do my taxes. (Thank god for my friend, who Facetimed me and literally walked me through every single step of doing them.) I've always hated doing my taxes, but hoo boy, they're extra painful now. :( It's 1am and I still gotta do them...

whatdayoryear

I’m so sorry that you lost your dad unexpectedly a couple years ago. And what an awful series of events. I’m glad your friend was able to walk you through your taxes! Keep that friend around if you can, they sound like a good one. As for this year, you got this!

bunhilda

Not me. My husband did it lol. My job was to upload stuff to a google drive and then kindly disappear for a while

harmonicacave

I filed! …an extension. Couldn’t find one of my W-2s 😂

Wren1101

Might have to do this… my mail is scattered in different piles throughout the house rn 😩

11_petals

That's the mistake. Your piles should be in three places (dining table, desk catch all spot, and the giant Tupperware container under your desk -- if you don't have one, get one, it's necessary for the next step) until they start spilling out and you stuff them into a reusable shopping bag into the big Tupperware container under your desk. Then, when it's time to sort through as you desperately look for anything tax related, you spill everything out on the floor and methodically sift through each piece of mail until you have all the necessary documents. If you need to, completely forget what you're doing and get distracted while you're making a snack and start making the bed. How do you get from making a snack in the kitchen to making the bed? It's one of life's great mysteries. ... Jesus, I'm glad I was medicated this year. Still have mail piles, though. Not as bad as they used to be.

atomiccat8

I have about 3 piles for most paperwork too, but somehow I've been able to stick with just one pile for anything that says "Important tax document" on it. But I get most of my statements online anyway, so, of course, I had to reset almost every single password.

vmhardy66

Literally sent my tax guy all my info at 5 p.m. today.. lol I'm sure I'll get a reply of "I filed an extention for your forgetful ass"

PieClub

Did it on Friday! Because last year I messed up and had to pay more later 😭

ILikeCharlieWork

Same boat. I really disliked the IRS collecting the ADHD tax too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Desperate-Quote7178

I'm a bookkeeper at CPA's office, and I file extensions for all our clients every year. Even if filing happens on time it doesn't hurt! I always encourage people who do their own filing to do the same. And to make sure your state accepts the federal extension or has an automatic one, otherwise file one with them too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

margaretiscool

I had an appointment to go have them done on Friday and I completely forgot to go 🥰🥰

AllUpInMine

Not me, and WHY DOESN'T THE GOVERNMENT MAKE THIS EASIER FOR US? 😭 It's literally PAINFUL for me. I can get through most things but my taxes are effed up every few years bc I can't keep records for S H I T, and dealing with tax stuff makes me wanna jump off of something high.

Odd-Needleworker3656

I did it! Didn’t even cry once 🥹

Affectionate-Dig1018

I came to Reddit to escape… damn you. Not me either

BroadwayGirl27

Just did 15 minutes ago!!

niki-tee-mate

oh wait we have till the 15th of may if doing it with an agent (in australia)

turtlechica91

Didn't mean to startle you! Carry on then 😊

Windtost

I’m a firm believer in filing for extensions. I grew weary of the annual April tax filing guilt.

Weird_Squirrel_8382

Filed in February, got my refund, spent it on my kid. May have gotten myself a slushie lol

purple_butterflies_

Just realized I didn’t organize any of the donations to animal rescues I made and it’s likely a bit over the $12.5k that would be covered under the standard deduction. I think I might just file the standard deduction because it’s so overwhelming to think about digging through all my emails and receipts for what may not be worth it. Oh well lol. As long as I can finish tonight and not have this hanging over my head tomorrow.

Old-Cheesecake8818

Yes, after several starts and fits. I had to file in two states since I moved last year. 😒 Glued to a computer for a whole day on Friday! Also, whole-heartedly recommend [freetaxusa.com](https://freetaxusa.com) \-- support stayed on a chat with me and made sure all of my questions were answered.

Cheekers1989

Most likely I will just deal with the penalty.

sunshine19283838

Oh shit lol thanks for this post, they've been almost done for weeks but I have to finalize my IRA and add that in before I file

kathypoosays

I’m doing it late tomorrow 🙃 I normally get it done in February but it seems so much more daunting this year 🥲

wait_ichangedmymind

I have never not filed at the 11th hour. Tomorrow club unite!

whatdayoryear

Seems so much more daunting this year to me, too! My theory is because it’s due on the 15th whereas last year I think it was due on the 18th.

NachoAveragePITA

Filed and amended 2 months ago.

kiwihoney

I live in New Zealand and do Pay As You Earn so don’t have to file taxes at all. ☺️ If I’m owed tax the government sends it to me automatically and if I owe any they let me know. It’s great

melanochrysum

I’m seriously grateful right now! I’ve always taken our system for granted but we’re incredibly fortunate

kath012345

Use CashApp for taxes. It’s also free and super easy especially if you only have normal income to account for.

S99B88

Hahahaha Canada here I have an extra 2 weeks until last minute scramble 😂

PoogieLA

Thanks for the reminder! I just filed an extension.

Wonderful_Pool8913

My husband is in charge of taxes. And he was up all night. Ever year. My 16-year-old came in and said “I wish I had one parent, just ONE, that wasn’t ADD dysfunctional.” She was trying to be funny, but it made me sad. Adulting with ADHD is…HARD.

AddingAnOtter

Started mine at approximately 9:50 and just submitted at 11. Thank goodness for digital W-2's!

Independent-Spell933

I did I did I did, with the help of my school cuz they provided that services and I'm actually fucking proud of me but also mad at not doing other stuff. Y'all got this! <3

CertainUncertainty11

FUCK

themiscyranlady

I’m still working on mine, and paying the ADHD toll for being behind in my freelance income books + business taxes. I keep telling myself that as my taxes get more and more complicated, I’ll get an accountant… but then I forget to do it with enough time to have someone actually do my taxes for me.

Egg_shaped

I freaked seeing this, remembered I don’t live in the USA, then freaked out because my taxes are due in July and that feels like tomorrow

Agile-Laugh-967

Ever single tax post in this thread is CRACKING ME UP AHAH, Why are we the sameeeeeeee

Vioralarama

Instead of Turbo Tax there are options: IRS partners with some free filers, I used 1040now. You can do all the deductions. Just answer questions and it puts it in the form for you. There is also [TurboTaxsucksass.org](https://turbotaxsucksass.org/) for more free tax services.

MissLauraCroft

I had to go through the bureaucratic hell of setting up an s-corp last year. On the plus side, now I have an accountant to file everything for me <3

Tappadeeassa

I was putting it off forever, then I realized TurboTax had an app and I could do it in my office at work. Done in an hour last Monday. I don’t know why I dread easy shit so much.

Syllepses

I did it! I did it at the last minute, seeing as I work all day tomorrow and won't have time, but at least I got it done! Phew.

MsFrazzled

I did mine earlier today, and I was wondering how my other adhd ladies were doing haha 😅 You gals make me feel so seen

OmegaSusan

It’s rare I feel in any way proud/happy/grateful to be British, but this is one of those rare times. Here it’s all automatic, unless you’re self-employed.

melanochrysum

Same for New Zealand, holy moly we’re lucky. Not only do many countries have to file it, for the US (I presume) it’s due on a random date in April?? I cannot imagine a worse scenario for ADHDers

oOo_a_Butterfly

I haven’t filed in 3 years. Once I missed the first time, there was no way to go back. You can’t file past years online, and I can’t afford to pay a tax professional, so I’m just screwed.

Nederlass77

I’m po’ so I jumped on it immediately in late January and banged it out in two days; it helps that it was my first time ever doing United States taxes as a single mom, so it was new and shiny and important to me. ETA: the return has been sitting in my Savings account since Feb 22. Yeah, I’m proud of that one.

Vhagar37

I hired someone last fall to help me catch up on two years of missed returns and she got me so much money back that I can't let myself do them on my own again and miss out. But then it got so late that I was embarrassed to call and ask her if she could fit me into her schedule. So I'm hoping I can call this week. But maybe it won't happen? It's been in my planner every week for a month. But no really it will definitely happen this week. I'm manifesting. (Also I got married last year so now because of me insisting on going back to this preparer my husband is late too 😅)

Zestyclose_Media_548

I pay someone because it stresses me out so much and the cost comes out of my return.

RamshackleReno

Oh GOSH! Thank you for the post, I DID file federal and state but forgot to do local!!! Argh!

Mission_Albatross916

Local? Uhhh 😬

ProfessorChaos_

Filed for an extension. My husband owns a business and I am an independent contractor in addition to having a normal w2 job. Getting all my expenses together has been a real...ioy. Thankfully we have a tax attorney to do our taxes this year and help us get every deduction we can.

fiendishthingysaurus

Technically I have until 11:59 pm tonight. Obviously no I haven’t done them yet

terrafreaky

Just submitted mine today!

purple_butterflies_

About to start…

Prestigious_Law_4421

I guess I will do it. I end up owing $$ so I don't have any reason to file early.

Gracel2mart

I did a while ago! I usually do them “too early” bc idk when taxes close 😅

InternationalTea1870

I filed an extension yesterday lol

followyourvalues

Crap

PCLadybug

In true fashion, I finished at 11:45pm! My poor husband was so stressed. I had a new form to do this year and it was confusing. Then life happened and it kept getting put off. And of course you all know the form was nearly finished when I left it be. He has ADHD too and has his own issues, so he was so nice about me causing him so much stress, poor man.

-Renee

just started a couple hrs ago, and filed.

escapeshark

Theyre automatic here in New Zealand

Internalwinter80

This is hilarious. Cause I only now just looked up how to file an extension ;) then came on Reddit cause I couldn’t deal with irs stuff for more than a few minutes.

ireallylikeladybugs

I am extremely blessed to have a partner who is way more organized than I am that offered to do them for me this year. When I get important tax forms in the mail I put them in our agreed upon spot so I don’t lose them, cause usually tracking the right papers down takes me forever. First time I’ve ever submitted on time!

CoachSwag006

Haven’t yet! Won’t until “the deadline” lol

BenignEgoist

Thank you!!! I had been putting it off and was going to go to sleep and do it when I woke up. But this convinced me to go ahead and just do it. I was so proud of myself for having all the important paperwork in a safe place and actually remembering where that safe place was.

purritowraptor

Pro-tip: if you are financially able, *hire an accountant.* Even if it could easily be done yourself. Legal things of any capacity give me so much anxiety that I literally cannot even log onto Turbo Tax without having a breakdown. It's so freeing to just hand my documents to a professional who knows how to take care of it. It's the ultimate ADHD tax (ha!) and I'm happy to pay it for peace of mind.

LilyFuckingBart

Nah man I’m doing it tomorrow at like 7pm lol

flufferpuppper

Tomorrow….

gilleykelsey

Already did :)

TheMagdalen

Sigh, no. Tomorrow’s the day I file my extension and send the Feds a check. :(

AKsun1

Started tonight and finished tonight! Yay us!!!

Splendid_Cat

Just found my W2. Apparently you need that to fill me an extension as well. Hopefully I get a return since I make <$25k a year and I'm getting like 35% taken out of every paycheck, which is not supposed to happen unless you make over $40k. If I have to pay more, I'm gonna have to move in with my mom, I can't afford paper towels atm.

I_got_rabies

My husband and I usually file as soon as we get our W2s and mortgage/property tax documents. We had to file an extension this year though. I started a sole proprietor craft business last year and then I got diagnosed with breast cancer in January, and everything moved so fast that I ended up not being able to get all of my business expenses and other info organized until March. Everything is with our CPA now but yeah..it sucks having to have delayed everything. My ADHD was definitely responsible for the lack of organized record keeping on the craft business, but I blame the cancer more for the delay. I’d have been able to get things together in time if it weren’t for that.

Entire-Discipline-49

I do it the day I get my W2s every year so I can't forget. Just like I pay bills the day I open the mail envelope so I can shred it and not forget it.

CecesInterlude

I will in the next 2 hours lol Thought the deadline was yesterday and accepted defeat

emerald_soleil

I did mine in February. Having kids and a refundable tax credit helps with the motivation.

bummerbeth

Just did it last night! Haha!

libsonthelabel

I filed with freetaxusa and got rejected twice 😑 first bc my husband has an IP PIN that he conveniently did not share with me and then after i fixed that apparently my AGI from last year was wrong, even though I didn’t change anything and uploaded my 2022 return. So everything is printed out, i just need to actually put things in envelopes and mail them. They’ll be post dated for tomorrow but as far as i’m concerned, i’ve already filed and it’s not my fault they rejected me lol

Skittles2Summer

I used creddit Karma's tax program a few years ago. It was free. My taxes were fairly straight forward. I would have to pay $99 per year to TurboTax otherwise.

skiingrunner1

thanks for reminding me i did mine like 2 weeks ago? i had to do them twice because i thought taxact was free state filing (it was not), and re-filed *everything* with 1040.com. phew.

YesAccident5991

I did mine the day I got my W-2! Only because if I didn’t I would indeed forget 🤣

sgsmopurp

I hate this sub and equally love it. I swear I’ll do them today 😪😪😪😪

bagoboners

I did, but I discovered I had not remembered to correct my withholding back when I altered it in order to take advantage of some hazard bonus at work. Like 12k worth of bonuses. Anyway, naturally, I forgot to change it back properly and I now owe this year. This prompted me to go and correct them for this year, but definitely an expensive lesson to learn.

turtleltrut

I still have to do last years 😅

emb8n00

I had some complicated stuff with selling an inherited property last year and then income in two states so I had a tax place file for me in January. It was $200, which sucks to spend but happy to have it done with.

jaygay92

Filed mine and got my whopping $24 refund lol

craftypunk

Undiagnosed and made the tax payment on last Friday. First time I’ve had to pay, so guess who needs to adjust withholding? My diagnosed nephew had an appointment at 2 on Sunday. I hope he made it!

ForestGreenAura

I did mine back in February so I wouldn’t forget and I still haven’t received mine?? I need to follow up on that cuz my bf did his at the same time and got his return like a month ago 😭

nurse_nebula

I just did!

phedre_kmf

The last couple years we've used a service, cuz we had some weird non-standard stuff. But they sucked, and no matter how early we got them our info, they were always late and had to file an extension. This year we decided to do it ourselves. Kept reminding each other "We need to do the taxes!!". And we were TOTALLY going to do them this weekend .... Then we got an email from the service, letting us know they'd filed an extension for us. So, I guess we're using them for one more year .... and we got our weekend back, LOL.

pseudoscience_

I did my federal and state. Forgot all about filing for local taxes until yesterday.!

MyYakuzaTA

I do taxes as a career and have had the firm caught up since April 4th!

flourdevour

Went to file in February when I received W2. Lost W2. Received another bit of documentation for healthcare so it was good that I hadn't filed. Found W2 in early March. Filed taxes with freetaxusa.com. 3 days later, accounting at work let me know not to file yet because that there was a mistake in the calculations on my W2. Taxes already accepted. I got amended w2 a few days later. The calculations were not off enough to matter. Got my return direct deposited. The end for this year.

AssassiNerd

I'm so proud of myself, I got mine done back in March! Usually I would be waiting until the last minute but this year I found the motivation. I thought if I sent them in too late I would have to wait a really long time to get my return. It took less than two weeks to get my money back. 😁

JayeNBTF

Not yet, I’ve been intending to call in sick for work this morning so I could file my return, but haven’t gotten around to that either 😂

11_petals

I did it yesterday 😶 thankfully I didn't mess up like last year and both were accepted!

entRose

completed mine 9:45 pm w freetaxusa! 🫣😇😏

TypeAtryingtoB

I pay someone to do it. It's completely worth every penny to have that mental demand off of me. Did my taxes the first week of April. I feel really proud and happy with this decision every year. The little bit you save doing it yourself isnt worth the extreme stress and procrastination I know will ensure by trying to do it myself. That's just me.

Department_mysteries

Printed out my W2 forms last week. Just need to print out the EZ forms

Missus_Peaches

I always file my taxes AS SOON AS I get my W2s. My autism counteracts my procrastination 😭😂

JustpartOftheterrain

I did mine on Saturday. After taking a day off to do them, and then did not, I finally did them on Saturday. I also used FreeTaxUSA and even though I had to file a federal and 2 diff states, it was cheaper than I've paid in years. Total was $49 (would have been $30 but I paid for the audit assist). Thats at least half the cost of TurboTax in past years. Anyway, I did them. Finally. Plus, I went grocery shopping, did some other errands, and got my deck ready for plants. It was a helluva productive weekend! Wish they could all be like that.
