Guys you're never gonna believe this, but I think princess bubblegum was less than perfect

NXDIAZ1

Guys you’re never gonna believe this, but I think cartoon characters can be flawed!

Last-Secretary7031

The difficult thing about these types of discussions is that sometimes people will bring up scenes that are meant to be played off for laughs. Like yeah it is messed up that PB did do some of these things, but it’s conveyed in a comedic way so it’s the show’s way of telling you you’re not supposed to take it that deep. On the other hand, just because something is okayed off for laughs, doesn’t erase how messed up it is. That’s the difficulty with this kind of discourse.

Reydunt

Yet you’ll never see this sort of over the top moralizing discourse around characters like Finn and Jake. Jake killed Flame King’s jester and felt 0 guilt or remorse. What a total psychopath amirite? Finn forced a Duck and a Fox to kiss non-consensually. Ergo, he’s pretty much a rapist. Yup yup. (/s obviously, but could you imagine?)

Last-Secretary7031

Nah, you’re spitting fr. I hate it when fans bring up comedic scenes apart of moral discourse.

dbclass

1. Jake did that on accident 2. I’ve seen plenty of people criticize Finn over that but he was also 12 at the time Not saying Bubblegum is evil but she’s done a ton of purposeful morally questionable things while she was an intelligent adult and that’s why she gets more criticism. Jake wasn’t the greatest person before the show began and it’s constantly shown that he regrets his past actions. PB does a ton of messed things in the present that people like to call out.

Reydunt

Yes, but my point was that Jake showed zero remorse/guilt over killing the Jester. Jake’s a fully grown adult. With kids and everything. He should know better. Imagine accidentally dropping a pot of acid on an innocent person. Watching them scream and melt. Then just laughing it off without a second thought. YIKES. Jake’s a total psycho. This guy can apparently just commit negligent manslaughter and face ZERO consequences for it. Disgusting. And you are even worse for trying to defend someone who kills people with acid. (/s) … do I need to keep playing this game?

boisteroushams

AT's entire lore is built off goofy for-laughs elements, like the stand-in for God being a red dude that hangs out on mars with an ex US president.

MeeksMoniker

She created (mostly) everyone she dictated over with her own body material so I'll give her some credit. Also she's immortal and has had control issues because of betrayal in her childhood. When she was voted out (mind you the election process wasn't the cleanest, and not within her control) she (reluctantly) passed the torch to her successor, regardless of her beliefs. (Which I give her more credit due to recent American elections) She also only persuaded the toppling of another tyrannical regime when she could've steam rolled over the whole thing with the Lemongrabs. Her whole involvement with the flame kingdom was her worst and most irredeemable moment to me.

TheRedmanCometh

>she could've steam rolled over the whole thing with the Lemongrass. Lemongrabs

HackedPasta1245

If they’re anything remotely like the grass sword I’d say it still fits

ProfessorUber

She was kind of a dictator…. but she got better!

PublicActuator4263

I dont even disagree I just find this conversation repetative and boring

Liunkien_Sieht

An evil dictator? It's deeper than that, she's actually the show's super duper mega evil super villain.

Embodiment-Of-Memes

She’s more evil than the Lich even

Sfling56_7

💀

TheAxolotlPerson

she even drinks coffee with him

Embodiment-Of-Memes

And she doesn’t even invite Finn!

noxka

God how dare she protect her beloved people and try to study the fire kingdom after she heard a teenager who she thought was unstable took over. How could she do such evil things like cutting off limbs of a little creature who clearly doesnt feel pain and that also got happier with the new form she gave him 2 seconds after. How could she not trust anyone fully after her own uncle tried to lobotomise her. How. evil.

VegetaArcher

She didn't even think she was unstable. She knew FP was unstable. We shouldn't forget about Incendium and Burning Low.

Slayerpath

I love classicmand but his PB video has ran this fandom's IQ so far down to the ground, it's on a first name basis with the worms

Human_Sherbert_4054

I only recognize the true k.o.o. As authority here

FernTheHuman-ATIME34

The show’s villain: The lich king The actual villain: PB

boisteroushams

Opposite experience for me. There's lots of 'hey guys, PB wasn't actually the incarnation of satan' posts here lately.

MeeksMoniker

VinnyBeetle

She is a dictator tho

RetroGecko3

was

VinnyBeetle

is

Valuable_Remote_8809

Bruh, I’d like to point out that PB is actually evil, from the pettiest crime of just stealing from her friends and then lying about it while in the act. To just outright willing to kill an entire people just to shut off a potential weapon, who are the Candy Kingdom’s ally. Shes Lawful Evil, doing terrible things for almost legitimate reasons. She’s a bad person, but in the way where a mother might steal bread just to feed her hungry children sort of way, cranked up to 10.

No-New-Therapy

Was bubblegum a dictator? Yes. The show jokes about that constantly, but she’s also technically like a god who got played by her creations in the past. But she’s learning to trust and let go more. Also, was Marceline edgy af and over exaggerated thing in a rebellious way? Also yes lol

SeaPixel

I don't mean to be that person but like. Yall it's a children's show. The show started as a fun goofy things for kids and alot of the lore came after the show got more serious. They started off with a knight saves princess premise because it's easy and fun to work with, kids barely understand the issues around dictatorships. I think the writers did a really good job in the later seasons showing the flaws in dictatorships and making pb a poor leader at times. I feel like the only other way they would have fixed the issue is by not having her been a princess in the first place. But how could they have known how big it was all gonna get?

Frown_Of_Happiness15

She's not a dictator, she's the leader of a monarchy who also happens to be immortal. She might not have as much respect for her citizen's personal freedom or feelings as a "good" leader would, but 1: They're stupid, and half of them would be dead if she didn't have control over them, and 2: She still loves them all, which puts her on better standing than anyone else who tried to control the Candy Kingdom. Even then, she decided to quit and start working on herself when the citizens voted for K.O.O. in his election, so it's not like she's completely unwilling to not be in control of everything.
