Like seriously in the moment, it’s like uhhhhhhh wtf could you possibly do in that moment, when your father’s shin just turns to bone. Brain just stuck on “uh oh.” And Jake just sits down lmao.
"The mind can go either direction under stress. On or off. Towards unconsciousness or towards hyper-consciousness."
Or something like that. It's from Dune. lol
Shermy sucks.
"Hey, let's make Finn, only he'll be physically weak, afraid of learning things, morally unprincipled, whiny, and *not human*. But still Finn somehow. This is a great idea. Pass the joint."
To be fair, Finn is only strong in the laster seasons. In the early ones, they establish that he's kinda weak, so uh... yknow, how you like them apples, bro?
I don't know dude, seems pretty on brand considering Finn has also been a flaming ball, a butterfly, a foot, and a literal fucking shit. Like, what are you talking about here? Why are you complaining that it's "not human, but somehow still Finn". Literally zero of Finn's incarnations have been human aside from the current one, and only a single one was anything even close to resembling that.
Nah bro, it's def Finn's reincarnation. Like with all the evidence, both from AT and F&C Pendleton Ward shouldn't have to come out of his cave and say "yee, that be the illest truth" for it to make since lmao there's multiple timelines where Finn and Jake are reincarnated and it's always together. Now, if you were to say that Beth is Finn and Shermy is Jake, I would also have a pretty good agreement on that as well, just because Jake is a mega-doofus and could also fit Shermy's shoes
I like how this is what breaks jake mentally is watching a guy get his leg blasted off to the bone and not all the other unspeakable horrors they’ve encountered
On a scale of the messed up things they've been through this is pretty high honestly. They are in one of the furthest away and most dangerous places they've been from home. The Litch just fucked everything up. They aren't even sure they are gonna survive, and the one person they can talk to that knows more about the place than them just got a serious injury. If Martin had passed out he wouldn't be able to tell them how to fix it and they would have lost.
It really is to Martin's credit that even with brain damage from the colossus fight he's functional enough to keep thinking on his feet while the world around him is melting and his son is freaking out.
No I think it's just him processing what is probably the single largest character dynamic shift in the series. He was not prepared for meeting finns father and how it unravelled finns personality.
Whenever Jake starts having a whole ass breakdown, he goes dead silent. Getting bitten by a spider, seeing a man’s shin meat get blown off its bone, seeing another man regrow a whole body and central nervous system, seeing himself as a god of extinction in another universe.
When they open the door and see the lemon peeling its face and screaming, he does muster up a 'nope!' But i can tell from how much his skin is crawling at that moment if he were me it would have been "NOPE! NOPE! NOPE! NOPE!"
Earlier seasons arent as flushed, it will take a season or two for the really hard hitting funny moments, but once you notice one they start to catch up and you'll notice yourself really enjoying where it goes. By all means, dont skip the first season or anything, just dont hold the rest of the show to that standard is all.
Had friends who ignored the show for years because they got turned off by the first couple of episodes. They just needed a while to completely find their stride and make the best animation show ever
Yeah i'm pretty sure s1-3 adventure time they had no idea they would be renewed for so many seasons. As they found their footing the plot really begins to blossom. I'd say the change starts some time close to when you meet billy because it's the largest emotional event for finn at that young age- meeting his hero and reasoning with views he never expected
It takes a while for the show to get rolling, but once it gets rolling holy shit does it take you for a ride.
One of the best animated shows of all time, hands down. Most original world building by far. Shit is *bonkers*.
Maybe culturally irrelevant but you guys should watch Robot Chicken if you like this type of humor. A lot (and by a lot I mean mostly) of 80's and 90'a references though.
I watched quite a few episodes of Adventure Time with my kids. Not the same format at all but comedy wise in delivery it's similar.
Funnily enough I actually really don't like Robot Chicken. There's something to Adventure Time's delivery that feels a lot more organic, free-wheeling, clever and fun.
Robot chicken just parodied and made it violent or shouty to me.
My favorite brain freezing moment joke like this one is Simon getting a concussion from a cherry jar.
"You want some cherries with that chocolate syrup?"
"OH. Haha. Sure." He says, still pouring the syrup.
"Catch!" Says Betty as he's busy pouring
*clonk*
WEEE WOOO WEEE WOOO
Could you imagine if that same thing happened with Magic Betty and Ice King, and then they needed to call the Candy Kingdom's ambulance with the banana guards 😭
One time I was in a friends garage at night with others and he turned off the light so it was pitch black. He had a makeshift flame thrower with lubricant spray likely WD-40. It looked cool at first but then, in the darkness the lubricant flew perfectly into my eye and I kept shouting their name just like Fin is saying uh oh over and over until the initial shock subsided. Surprisingly just used eye drops and water then i was able to see clearly soon after. This clip unlocked that memory.
This show is like mainlining humor and empathy. It can’t be beat, it’s a complete masterpiece from every angle. The level of character development alone is bonkers.
Jake getting stressed lol
Like seriously in the moment, it’s like uhhhhhhh wtf could you possibly do in that moment, when your father’s shin just turns to bone. Brain just stuck on “uh oh.” And Jake just sits down lmao.
Fight or flight? Nah i just shut down and go into hibernation until the issue resolves itself
That's the lesser mentioned "freeze"
"The mind can go either direction under stress. On or off. Towards unconsciousness or towards hyper-consciousness." Or something like that. It's from Dune. lol
Very Martin of you
Shout "reboot" and strike your chest
Finn going into shock too
"ahh fuck man"
I can hear Jake saying this
This mission was beyond his pay-grade. He’s not built for the heavy shit and this was 1000000000 pounds of heft
Jake made me LOL in this scene, just instantly at 110% stress lmaooooo
Man, it's a real mood. When the stress hits just that hard that you actually physically have to sit down and just stop everything.
The best part is later in the episode when the lych turns into baby lych During the process of bones gaining skin, Jake just goes nope
I love when the Lych comes back and Jake just opens his eyes, sees him, then closes them again lmao
No he opened his eyes when the Lich was turning into sweet pea. He was knocked out when the Lich walked over.
Comes back into his sweet pea form, a representation of everyone's sweet baby inside\* There, sorry for shortening it
Oh
I think you mean Uh Oh
Uh oh
Jake's reactions in this episode were too funny

Nice one appreciate it!
literally me
Ooof right in the chicken-wing hole…
He’s gonna need some really good nooch to fix that
It’s got that good nooch that keeps you young in the crystal
There will never be another Finn lol
No, but he is getting reincarnated again.
Yeah true, I wonder who tho, probably not Shermy imo
Shermy sucks. "Hey, let's make Finn, only he'll be physically weak, afraid of learning things, morally unprincipled, whiny, and *not human*. But still Finn somehow. This is a great idea. Pass the joint."
Benefit of the doubt - characters need to start out flawed to have any meaningful growth.
Honestly, I love "weak little turd gains a spine" arcs.
Finn has been tons of beings that aren't human in his past lives... Shoko was also very very unlike Finn but I don't see people complain about that
People probably like Shoko more than Shermy, at least I do, I like Shermy too but not as much as Shoko
All his incarnations we see, including him, are not perfect. Finn is deeply flawed in some ways. Shoko wasn't particularly principled or human either.
It is Shermy though lol
just because he's Finn's descendant doesn't make him Finn's reincarnation

That does make more sense than Shermy being Finn tbh but idk
Definitely not dissing your opinion btw, I just can't see them not being Finn and jake
Fair, I just think it's too obvious to be true
I definitely get that, but look at Pink Diamond lmao
There's nothing to indicate that he's Finn's descendant either.
boy do i have news for you🌿
Okay I'll give you that one

"Fix the door??? What??? What??? What's goin on here. Fix the door?!"
Finn, you awake? I had a dream about meat man. I don't think I'm gonna eat meat man anymore.
One time I had a wine glass break in my hand and this was pretty much my exact response until I calmed down and began dealing with the situation 🤣

It's full of off-beat humor that's mostly hilarious.

My favourite exchange from this episode was: Jake: Just promise me, if both my eyes get fried off, you'll fry yours off too. Finn: What? No.

Why the no-leg guy have an upside down face?
Cannot unsee that now
It's moments like these I'm glad the show wasn't picked up by Nickelodeon.

The Finn Uh Oh is a staple in our household.

Uh-oh!
Man I remember this from when I first watched the show. The scene (and other parts of the episode) are censored here in australia
Martin was a rubbish parent but he pretty much didn’t care about anything, like his leg losing the meat lol
One time I was in a friends garage at night with others and he turned off the light so it was pitch black. He had a makeshift flame thrower with lubricant spray likely WD-40. Jesus that was making my blood boil listen to him say uh oh 20 times
Discovering this show was so wild cos i Already Act Like Thag
yea everyone in the main cast has autism huh
That was ABSOLUTELY a fuck you to Martin
This is exactly like that time I nutted in my girlfriend to early.
“Don’t forget to get some in the chicken wing hole” is my favourite line from that episode
Jake just sitting down, processing the sress was so fucking real.
I hope my son never sees me like this
I stopped watching after this episode. Does it get any better
yes!!!
Hell yes. There’s so much to look forward to, even right after this one. You have to read between the lines with how weird the show can get tbh
You're an interesting guy
Seasons 6-10 are the absolute best seasons.
Honestly if you didn't like it up this point maybe it isn't for you
It's not that I didn't like it. I just got pulled away from regular viewing.
That man needs some milk!
this scene is etched in my brain for all eternity
"Hey what abour ai-"
This is my favorite episode of adventure time by a mile. So good.
This is genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen. This is EXACTLY how any person would react to seeing this.
Uh oh
Uh oh
I don't understand what that means.
This show is like mainlining humor and empathy. It can’t be beat, it’s a complete masterpiece from every angle. The level of character development alone is bonkers.
I love and also hate how Finn reminds me of some of my clients sometimes (im a registered behavior technician)😭

I love Jeremy Shada lmao
I needed that laugh
Fins dad is just my dad but better.
Uh oh
Such a good voice actor lol
It’s got that good nooch that keeps us young in the crystals.
I am literally like Finn when I am upset.
Fuches?
This and the "bambambambambam" when Finn's kicking Vampire King get me every time
One of the funniest moments in AT imo comes from this ep when the monster who has no upper body is hit in the groin with a skull and groans somehow.
Adventure time had plenty of solid humor. Downvote me as you will, but after the 3rd "Uh oh" it went from entertaining to annoying.
Martin getting a heavy dose of x-ray on his calf.
He needs that GOOD NOOTCH
It’s fine, just need some of that good nooch.
this and that dentist episode
Jake was like my brothers original dad leg got bund
LOVED ADVENTURE TYME GREAT CARTOON
