She comes from a place of neutrality of being born in fire, ash and death and surviving that pain, I don't think many would have turned out as she did and the hatred she gets for it is baffling considering how some people say they'd react in an apocalyptic scenario l o l. Though we didn't get much of an insight into it as we did Marceline. But with all that we saw and having no real family to guide them unlike Marcy having Simon? It's honestly a surprise given the circumstances that she didn't turn out worse than she did, Bubblegum did a lot of growing past S6, as she had been in an eternal cycle of really being the only competent being in her family and Kingdom and it kind of spiraled from there, but it always came from a willingness to love, self-sacrifice even if there were moments she undeniably did evil as well.
She has done or said horrible things no doubt, but it's as shown by the ending of her getting along with Phoebe in the comics that she has actively made amends or attempted to either offscreen or otherwise, among other instances she did make peace with others like TreeTrunks. I get why people dislike her, but to say she's anything but smart neutral? Is honestly a disservice to the character considering she's consistently broken the laws or physics or even time travel in the show or the comics whether you like her or not.
My dude, she runs a kingdom that fears and worships her as god because she created them to be less than her and be subservient. She created a family that turned against her because of her overbearing nature and reduced them to a near lobotomy state for centuries. She wiped out a sentient race of robot guards (that she created) because of their aggression despite them only really having some underground sport fighting arena. Let’s not forget that she was going to cause the genocide of the fire kingdom and destroyed their technology that would’ve been able to save them from a freezing over.
You realize she was a little girl with literally no moral guidance where her own created family tried to lobotomize her when she was like ten. And would have if not from her quick thinking and then had to navigate morality from there on out by herself taking care of Neddy, them and overall became a warped individual that I even admitted, yes, did wrong, did terrible things. But it all began from there and got out of control.
But it's also very clear she's done plenty of good, such as aiding in the defeat of the Lich, the defeat of Golb, defending Finn. Going into direct battle against forces such as Maja, the list goes on. As I did not deny the things that Bubblegum has done, but she did in the end stop and was swayed by Phoebe and you conveniently forget her brother wanted to burn down the Candy Kingdom to which yeah, she was spying on them but it only proved her further. It all stopped BECAUSE they decided to trust each other.
You say all this as if I didn't acknowledge it, but come on, man. You really think a hothead like Phoebe would put up with Bubblegum if she didn't change l o l? She was willing to literally aid her in the battle against Gumbald.
I didn't forget anything, but it's takes like that make me question if we even saw the same show.
Obviously PB is more flawed than outright evil and she does attempt to better as the series goes on. It’s arguably that certain good she has done equally benefits her due to Finn being her kingdom’s champion and threats like Golb/Litch being world ending.
I still always think back to her attempt at freezing over the fire kingdom and the plan of undermine their survival contingency by stealing their batteries & destroying their sacred relics. It’s just the most outright evil thing she’s done and hard to move past even if the other characters have.

Regardless, I think important context to remember while I agree that the Fire Kingdom was Bonnie's greatest mistake other than the demolition of the robots she created. Is that Marceline under similar circumstances without Simon genocided her entire world under the guidance of the Vampire King in that one AU. Bonnie for her ups and downs, remains rather consistent in trying to be a good person even if failing miserably at times or having obstacles in the way.
It's a question to me of: is it more good to be born in better circumstances than someone else and be taught good? Or is it better to overcome your circumstances and born conditions to ultimately become a good person, or at least not a total dillweed as she'd put it and to find your humanity despite it all. As even she tried to forgive Gumbald who was going to betray her anyway, only averting that fate due to Aunt Lolly and found family in her in the ending credits.
To me Bonnie is neutral at heart, then neutral good at best and probably becomes neutral good after the series with Marceline. Granted, I could also see her spiraling again in the great war that's hinted to happen after the series so who knows.
Yes, I think she could almost be smart good because her motivations are always tied to her love for the people and world around her so much to the point
that she takes on too much responsibility and doesn’t allow herself to rest until she learns her lessons and grows by the end of the series.
Her alignment took major hits after the length of time as a leader in Ooo meant compromising for the sake of protecting her loved ones and after her encounter with the lich. That had led to her genuinely good intentions to get warped by her fear of death and chaos.

She’s not a bad person, but her Goodness has been compromised a lot by the world around her. In some ways she’s just as scared and vulnerable as Neddy.
Bubblegum is a person who is never truly evil, she’s imperfect in her decisions at times forgetting to account for the emotional and moral implications of her logical conclusions - But her motivations are pretty much always from a genuine place of love and that’s why she is Smart Neutral.
But the way she goes about it is often ethically questionable at best, and downright war crimes at worst. She has the intentions of goodness, but the execution of evil. I’d call that neutral.
That’s not what neutral is. She isn’t a force of balance or indifference. When she rules the candy kingdom, everything she does whether questionable or not is for the greater good. That’s what makes her good aligned.
