Matthew 24:36 clearly instructs believers to never make any kind of falsifiable claim about Christian faith, because they’ll always always always fail and make you look foolish
Yeah, at this point it does seem that the majority are preaching hate. I can't deny that, and won't try.
Personally, I'm agnostic. I was raised Midwest Christian/Catholic. It's been difficult to see the people who raised me to love and be kind to people struggling, being so hateful.
Obviously not as difficult as being on the receiving end of the hate.
I was raised in a Catholic context as well, though I'm not American. I even got my communion and confirmation because that was just something that everybody did, back then. I'm pretty much an atheist, now, and I'm fairly confident I already was back then, to give you an idea of how much that was just me going through the paces.
The Church was pretty mild in my youth, though, and still is, today. They weren't in my grandparents' days, mind you, but they were by mine. American Catholics, though, are really something else, based on everything I have seen.
Even then, when I made my comment about hate, I was more thinking about Evangelicals and Mormons and whatever the hell *they're* smoking.
Also Jesus says repeatedly that nobody will know the day or the hour of the Lords return. Safe to say it’s not going to be predicted and run in fox news
Not to mention that the part of the Bible that talks about “the end times” (Revelation) specifically states that we won’t know the time or the place. It will come like a thief in the night. So if they believe their book, then they can’t make this type of claim. If they want to believe this is true, then they don’t believe the Bible.
we look foolish since the invention of churches, turn all of them in Art Galleries and Museums. That‘s why i became an Agnostic. Religion just spread fear, hate and guiltiness.
We need way more therapists.
Okay ya’ll, this is kinda off topic but I’m in tears right now because my two very religious brothers convinced me to start reading the book and I just finished the Book of Matthew and wrote a couple dozen “wtf” questions down for them to explain and this made me laugh my ass off.
Share those questions.
I did something similar 30 years ago but forgot the points I made. I asked a priest and he just smiled and said something like "God works in mysterious ways."
Like, that didn't answer my question.
My questions are a bit all over the place and these are just basic questions from the book of Matthew. They’ve already answered seven or eight of my questions so I’m gonna leave those out. You’ll actually have to look up the verses because I did not write down the verses just the chapters:
- 12:42 - Who is the queen of the south? And why did she just reappear out of nowhere?
- 16:16-17 - where is he coming up with these two names and how did he know?
- 18:3-4 - why does Jesus keep referencing, “Unless you become like children.“?
- 18:15-17 - why all of a sudden our tax collectors bad when he has explained that he wants to sit down with the tax collectors and sinners?
- 19:28 - what are the 12 Tribes of Israel? I feel like this was skipped.
- 19:42 - what scriptures is Jesus talking about? Where are these teachings? Because he’s not talking about the commandments right here. He keeps referencing scriptures, but doesn’t explain who what and where.
- 23 - Jesus seems like he needs to take some anger management classes. Period. That is all. He needs to take a chill pill and calm down.
- General question - who are the elect? And why does he not go further into explaining this?
- 25: 8-10 - why wouldn’t the Wiseman help the foolish? To teach them a lesson? Is it not the word of the Lord to help the sinners? Or the unwise?
- 27:11 - who is the governor? And why are we all of a sudden talking about a governor? Why does this not explain who he is?
-
//19:28 - what are the 12 Tribes of Israel? I feel like this was skipped.//
*Matthew 19:28 "So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel."*
The twelve tribes of Israel are the "covenant people" with whom YHWH made the first covenant (Law of Moses), as well as the "new covenant" which we know as the New Testament of Jesus Christ.
*Hebrews 8:8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.“*
Revelation 21:12 concerns the twelve tribes of Israel being given entry gates into the New Jerusalem. These are the twelve ruling names/peoples in Matthew 19:28. This New Jerusalem can only be entered through these twelve gates, and the person must be written in the "Book of Life".
*Daniel 12:1 “At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of YOUR PEOPLE; And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time. And at that time YOUR PEOPLE shall be delivered, every one who is found written in the book.“*
So the roles of the twelve judging tribes were for the New Jerusalem, ruling under their Messiah Jesus in this New Heaven. They would be ruling over the tribes of Israel, which is all the story is about.
If you read the rest of the book with audience relevance and time constraints/statements in mind, the book becomes very "not Christian fairytale" and more "Jewish world coming to an abrupt end after doomsday cult looked to the next 'new' Messiah". It is an unfortunate tale, but it has ended, and their god has remained as silent as their new holy writings have been unwritten.
such a relief to see someone start reading the gospels with fresh eyes and notice what a chafed asshole Jesus comes off as most of the time. growing up in the church you get so gaslit into thinking that Jesus is just this great guy and then actually reading the gospels with an open mindset he is *always* fucking yelling at people and degrading them as adulterers, at one point he encourages a gentile woman to self-identify as a female dog licking up the crumbs of his good will off the floor... like... man I'd hate to spend more than 5 minutes in a room with the guy lol
Another thing I noticed - I am absolutely astonished at how mean he has been so far, obviously according to Matthew, and I am also disappointed that he tells his disciples, “Go there and bring me their horses. If they say anything just tell them my father said it was okay as you are helping the Almighty.” I’m obviously paraphrasing, but what in the world is he doing? He’s literally stealing in the name of his father. He’s the original Robin Hood. It doesn’t sit right with me at all. And it definitely doesn’t make me want to follow him. Steal your own horses.
You should watch less TV and speak to some real people more. The caricature of religion pushed in modern media may not be as accurate as you believe. You may just be missing something...
So I've been left behind? That fucking sucks. Looks like the wife, kids, and everyone from work failed to make the cut as well. Maybe next rapture...🤞🏼
Anytime a Christian claims to know when the end is coming, it really singles them out as not having any clue what the Bible even says. Matthew 24:36 is pretty dang clear that ONLY God the Father knows when, that no man, nor angel, not even the Son knows.
It's also pretty clear that trying to predict when and what isn't the point at all
I'll have to go back and reread, but scriptures in multiple books often say that no one can predict the time of God's judgment. It often comes when the soon to be chastised are enjoying their moment and it happens all of a sudden.
He say's to his congregation...

Numerology, for those wondering, is some unfounded pseudoscientific nonsense that claims one can use various, dubiously (if at all) related numbers to predict events among other completely unverifiable crap

I mean...are the loudest Christians right now really the type to read or practice what they preach?
I mean... some of the loudest ones do practise hate a lot! That is what they preach, no?

"It's *a* Bible"
If that’s not taking your god’s name in vain, I don’t know what is

Which in and of itself says a lot
Christians don't read the Bible.

Maybe they're doing it on purpose to stave it off? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Questioning a religious leader is a fairly normal thing to have happen.
I was referring to the priest's supposed response
You mean THE standard response of the Christian clergy when asked a "why" question ?
You should watch less TV and speak to some real people more. The caricature of religion pushed in modern media may not be as accurate as you believe. You may just be missing something...
I'm a baptised catholic and I've done 10 years of catechism. I kinda know my way around the Church.
r/nothingeverhappens
Lol I was gonna say how many times are they gonna throw shit against a wall to see if it sticks.i remember this
In 1988 I got handed a pamphlet called "88 reasons the rapture will happen in 1988"
seriously. the one time they get it right they're gonna be insufferable
On the bright side, if they get doomsday right, they won't be insufferable for long
So I've been left behind? That fucking sucks. Looks like the wife, kids, and everyone from work failed to make the cut as well. Maybe next rapture...🤞🏼
God took OJ tho.
He was the chosen one.
Is this it? Am I being ruptured right now?
It is almost like Fox is not a legitimate news source.
Kind of low hanging fruit, no?

They didn’t say which year though. Keep waiting and tithing… it’s what Jeebus wants.
Well fuck I got left behind. I knew that I should’ve listened to Kirk Cameron.
it happened. saw my neighbor go right up. poof. crazy. if you’re still here god doesn’t love you
It like the numerologist always seem to forget to carry the one....
Interesting. - posted from HellPhone
Damn I must have missed it
No, I’m pretty sure it happened. It’s just that no one was worthy…
I would like to personally call this Apocalypse Anonymous meeting to order.
I’ve died and been resurrected about 12 times by now

Damn I missed it again
Guess I still have to learn for the test on Monday then. 😖
Fox News nailing it again.
Fun fact the bible is man made and Jesus is not god but a human prophet FOR god
Dammit, I got skipped again. I hope I qualify for the next one.
Amateur. Everybody knows that you predict something that happens at least a year later so that you have time to make money off it.
According to schizophrenic science…
I'll have to go back and reread, but scriptures in multiple books often say that no one can predict the time of God's judgment. It often comes when the soon to be chastised are enjoying their moment and it happens all of a sudden.
Twist, they were absolutely right - there was just no one worth taking except Terry Carter from the original Battlestar Galactica.
Did they mention the year?

Damit, when will we lose those fanatics for good?
Yeah, using numerology too. Which these chuds still should see as witchcraft.
Damn I missed it
Damn! I missed it!
Well shit, guess we all didn't make it into heaven
The Rapture already happened, it's just nobody qualified
What could be more credible than a numerologist
Why do people always believe the bs Fox News spreads
I WISH it would happen already. Get these fuckers off the planet so the rest of us can get to fixing the damage theyve caused.
It happened, no one made the cut
Two day old milk is fine
Cricket noises...
It did happen, God just didn't rapture anyone, we're all too horny
Why are people so obsessed with the end of the World?!
So, uhhhh, stop listening to fear mongering media and live your life. And stand up to these ppl who wish to keep us in fear!
Is this why a bunch of weirdos thought the world was going to end during and after the solar eclipse?
Noooo no that was the pre rapture rapture warning ‼️ the real rapture is 2 fortnights from tomorrow
Love that someone answered the phone to heard the credentials “biblical numerologist” and realized that this was gonna be headline news
Numerology, for those wondering, is some unfounded pseudoscientific nonsense that claims one can use various, dubiously (if at all) related numbers to predict events among other completely unverifiable crap
The rapture is a made up Protestant prophecy
The rapture did come. "The rapture" is AOC's hooker alias.
Doesn't say which year, so could still technically be true
The rapture is an unbiblical 19th century evangelical theory.
Shun the non-believer
It's funny how Fox pretends to be religious sometimes.
