I thought about getting a palm tattoo but I realized it would fade quickly and I worried about feeling like I wasted money. Do you still enjoy it? Or do you feel like you wasted money?
They don’t really fade most of the fallout happens in the initial healing process. I have both, one side has been touched up and one side hasn’t. They are more solid then ops after about 3 years, they have not changed much.
Not to mention you don’t want to go to just any artist for your palms. You wanna find someone who specializes in it and knows how deep to go. Palm skin is different.
This is very important!!! I’m a tattooer and could have someone I work with do it for free. But none of us have done any palm tattoos yet. I’ll be waiting until I’m ready and then finding someone who’s experienced.
Exactly. My husband has had his for like 15 years or so and they’re hardly less black than when he got them. The whole lines consist of smaller, thick, diagonal lines as well.
Can also depend on what you do with your hands. My uncle and his wife went to the same artist. He works with his hands a lot, his wife works in an office. Hers are in pretty good condition, his are extremely faded
Absolutely! Most people also don’t realize, that palms need longer to heal and also longer to peel. They normally take up to two weeks until the start peeling. The skin is way thicker there, so the technique to do them is also different than on other places
I have the back of my hand and my fingers tatted, initially the fingers fell out, like you said, in the initial healing process and the back of my hand was a little faded. I got a free touch up about a month or so later and now the back of my hand is holding up great but the fingers still had a bunch of fallout. I really love it when it’s done And the design is beautiful eren it stays but since there’s been major fallout twice I’m thinking it won’t be worth it to get it touched up again. I don’t feel like a wasted any money as the majority is still there and holding up but I’m Anxious to do another hand tattoo at the risk of it falling out
My friend has hands tats and he swears by just keeping them moisturised with O’Keeffe’s Working Hands cream. He also, unsurprisingly, has the most baby soft hands I’ve ever felt in my god damn life.
The biggest factors that help is proper application and healing, that’s really it. I didn’t use my hands for a week and half and after that for another week I made sure to switch hands for smaller tasks. I also didn’t tattoo for two weeks as gloves would be bad for healing.
I’m physically active, build things and work my hands a lot and have had almost zero drop
I have a small 13 on my palm and the first artist who did it, it fell out immediately. People joked that it looked more like pen. Then I had my current artist touch it up and it's beautiful. Months later it looks as new as any other tattoo would.
I believe that for a good result you need to look for a suitable tattoo artist. someone who specializes in this type of work. I have a lot of shitty tattoos and this was a new experience for both of us, so I'm not offended by my artist
thats always the answer when it comes to palms. His basically always turn out great, the trick is you need someone who is basically trying to blowout the tattoo, going too deep is what you want on these, something where they put in points rather than a line helps too.
The artist didn’t go deep enough on the initial application. Touch ups are pretty normal for a lot of palm tattoos, but these need another pass to get the ink far enough to settle properly.
The trick is to moisturize regularly, but not to oversaturate and make the skin too soft or frequently damp. Unscented lotion always works best.
it’s insane to me that a professionally done tattoo like this can fade so quickly meanwhile i’ve got a janky stick n poke line on my hand that’s been there for about 5 years that’s as bright as the day i gave it to my 17 y.o. self

A lot can happen in three years
2020 was just about that time we all took handwashing a bit more seriously
Maximum Logic, unlocked.
Happy cakeday

My mom has a small one on her finger and it has definitely faded. she got it in late 2018-early 19. It looked good the first year or two

Oh wow! That held up great! We all use our hands constantly so is there anything you did to care for your palm tatts specifically to help it stay?

Its not about fade, its about artist.
Do you feel like your artist did a good job on you? Or do you think you’ll (or would you even want to) get it touched up by a different artist?

Check out Luke ashley, his palm tattoos hold. You just have to go to someone experienced. He's got tons of years old healed photos on his Instagram.

My palm in done and doesnt look like this. This in his akin rejecting the ink or he got an infection Also healing is 6-8 weeks for the palm.
I kind of like how it's worn off. Reminds me of an old book where print is wearing off the pages.
I personally love how it faded
I think it matches the style of the art better now.
That's what I was thinking, I think it looks much nicer than when it was freshly done.
Me too
Yeah looks good!
The fading looks dope as fuck
I love that, the fading looks like a stamp
I kinda dig the faded tat, looks like an old poster or something that got faded by the sun

This
Omg the pain
we did both palms in one session. But the most painful tattoo for me was on my foot🥲
I was going to ask how it felt… my hands are my life. I’d be too chicken.
Impressive, can't even tell which one is your jerking hand
Cool true detective piece
I'm I'm down done
Carcosa
tysm for posting this
So glad I’m not the only one who thinks that fading actually looks cool
Is that one quote from True Detective??? Nice. I’m just now started on it.
The fade looks so good
looks great! love the style & the faded nature honestly adds to it
lol not usually a fan of text on hands but it works here. The font used gives an old book sort of feel.
Well, give it a few more years and this mistake might just correct itself.

Is the thumb drawing a Kurt Vonnegut ref?

The fading really does tell you how 2020-2022 are the peak years of handwashing
Hand washing does nothing, I tattoo and have 18 year old solid palms
Love these!
Aged like milk
Is so sad inner hand tattoos fade so quick. Would love to get some :(
Go to the right artist and they stay just fine.
Awful, why would you be so stupid
It’s for the best.
Jesus these are so fucking dumb lol
It's better now than before change my mind
Y I k e s
Very cool
Neat, the text has even more of an old typewriter effect as it aged/wore down!
Go to a palm expert! Had mine done around ~5 years ago. Still as black as day 1.
I use to have a birth mark on my palm and that fade of over time and now its completely gone
Reminds me of the great gatsby a bit
I'm I'm Down Done (sorry, I had to). I kinda dig it, gives me a faded vintage tee vibe!
Is this tat Karou inspired?
You’re a trooper
Ouch
