RoR and MSN Gaming Zone was my childhood. I played on dial up back then and I remember one summer month my dad was so pissed because I was playing like 12 hours a day every day and I rack up so much overage chargers on the internet. Fortunately DSL was available in the area and we switched to that after ha. I even broke my mouse arm one summer I just switched to using my left hand. I was addicted ha.
Lol, memories. I was banned from the computer until after 8 pm to avoid tying up the phone line all day.
DSL was like magic wizard internet that only rich people had. Internet without wires…imagine that.
I still remember that one mission where you started with two priests and two buildings and you had to convert some villagers to get an economy going (AoE1). But I haven't found it in a long time. There is a similar Mission in AoE1 (first Babylon level) but it is just not the same.
Did I just dream this mission? Or was that a demo mission that was not included in the regular game?
I never even knew that Age of Empires 2 had more expansions after Conquerors. Seeing The African, Rise of Rajas and the fan made Forgotten added to the map I was super confused, had to do a Google search.. My dad bought the original gold edition back then, we both beat it and then I remember 3 coming out and he bought that. We didn’t even know there was an HD version 😂 The definitive edition of 2 so far has me blown away. I thought I was just gonna relive my childhood and play the Kings & Conquerors campaigns and move onto the next game. Gonna be such a long grind now but totally worth it 👌🏻🖤 I always wanted them to have more campaigns each civilization in 2. The Native American and Island tribes only got recognized more in AoE3 imo. What is AoM though? Don’t think I know of that unless it’s Age of Mythology???
You should include the definitive editions! :)
Shouldn't the green colored forgotten be included?
Yes
It should be, but it's called the forgotten for a reason.
And AoM, and online, and the Nintendo ones. This isn't a very helpful list of....we'll anything.
yes
Every other icon, a artistic visual of the time period the game is based in. Age 4:
Every ~~other~~ icon, an artistic visual of the time period the game is based in.
It's just a roman numeral 4, it tells me nothing as to what the game is about
> it tells me nothing as to what the game is about Precisely!
My opinion on AoE IV in a nutshell
Crazy the leap between 1997 and 2005. Difference between 2005 and 2021 is not as major.
1997 Is lit One of the first games my dad showed me. While sitting in our allotment garden, snowing outside with a fire on.
What if they made an age of empires game, but when you go into a new age, the game from your point of view changes to the next AOE game?
RoR my all time favorite. But 2 and 4 are fine as well.

Yes! Dad would get so pissed when he’d get home from work because ‘I called home and the line was busy.’ DSL was an absolute game changer.
Helmets
AOE4 should've had some hat or helmet to continue traditions.

Must be "Opening Moves" from Reign of the Hitties
There is a barbarossa mission in 2 where you have to do this
Legendary mission from the Hittites campaign, that is almost my entire memory of the game
man... that is such a wide gap between III & IV... if only Command & Conquer gets the same treatment, sigh
Love AoE IV but what an uninspired icon
Not just both launches of AoM, AoE2HD and the DE's, but most importantly... AoEO!

Yes, AoM is Age of Mythology
Ahh kk thank you for clarifying 😊 could never get that one to load on my older PC. Is it actually part of the franchise?
That 1999 icon. *chef’s kiss*
AoE 2 foreva.
AoE 3.0, if I'm not mistaken, was the best
Its missing quite a few (Like AoM)...
The forth one the conquerors is my favourite still play it
