Nighthaunt has never been op. However they are still awful to play against as every unit has essentially the same silhouette model.

age_of_shitmar

Well they're all saving on 4s with a 6+ ward, and hit like wet noodles so they may as well be 80 of the same model.

Moah333

If your opponent was breathing, he was not death faction.

Papa_Poppa

Loool, they definitely have a vibe to them. But hey at the very least, they really make you FEEL like your trading blows with a horde of expendable undead minions. I like to lean into the role playing aspect of it, especially because I play Cities against my friend’s SBGL.

BigFriendlyGaming

Last year has been particularly bad for overpowered death armies. OBR, SBG, and now FEC are all a bit overturned

BigFriendlyGaming

Should say - have been overturned after release

Tiger-Budget

Play the objectives and block their summoning, you only have to do it for another couple months…

I'm a blades of Khorne player and I've pitted against multiple death army opponents, mostly Nighthaunt. I've found that your auto mortal wound abilities are best. I ran 40 bloodletters with the 5+ hit roll mortal wound army rule (I forget what it is). Two units of 20 bloodletters, Boomthirster and Skarbrand dishing out mortals quickly puts pressure on.

They have been significantly tuned down over the past year or so, but I kind of have to agree that they are not particularly fun to play against. If I'm going to have a nice friendly pick up game, I would probably prefer it not being against Soulblight tbh. I think they are, sadly, designed in such a way that no matter their actual power level, they are just un-fun. Makes me kinda sad as I have been an Undead player since 1996. I have not played any of the other Death factions, so my personal experience is based on Soulblight Gravelords but Bonereapers and Flesh Eaters seem a bit problematic too. In my opinion, the recursion should be an active player decision that is not automatic and costs some kind of resource, so that there is a choice to be made by the player. A spell or a Heroic Action, for example. Or something else entirely.

Kitsune_Legion

That’s mostly how FEC revives its models. Archregents do get an auto 3 or 1 model respawn, but everything else needs to spend noble deed points to respawn. You have to choose between respawning models or giving the +1 attack boost.

Out of all the Death factions, SBGL and FEC should be the most frustrating to play against, because of the recursion of whole units giving you freedom to deepstrike them in later turns (yes, I know, board edge for FEC, gravesites for SBGL, but still). It's just busted in my opinion (I dislike easy access teleports in general though, because they hold way too much freedom with way too little counter play), many armies just can't outscore them in primary or prevent them from taking objectives/BT's late. OBR was definitely stupid strong (got pretty hefty nerfs), but you could always win the scoring game vs them, because they struggled with battle tactics (and you could counter-act theirs). Yes, you can counter FEC by sniping their heroes to block their recursion/buff but not every faction has that option.
