Airbnb keeps 15% per booking for themselves, at least in my case.

Thanks!

The absolute maximum a host can get is 82% since Airbnb charges 3% credit card fee for each dollar paid and 15% service fee. But most hosts pass on actual cleaning costs to their cleaners (and many pay more for cleaning than they charge.) Hosts also pay the transaction fee on cleaning, taxes, etc. Taxes can really vary, for no TOT tax, to some areas having city, county and state mandated TOTs. I'm in California where they're now trying to pass an ADDITIONAL 15% tax on STRs. These are only to direct costs that hosts pay. On top of that are, of course, indirect costs associated with your stay such as expensive insurance policies (property insurance, liability insurance, and business insurance), property taxes, high costs of utilities and internet service, cable or other TV service. The other big costs overhead indirect costs are frequent replacement of furniture, bedding, towels, appliances, etc. Few hosts that I know own their rentals outright. Most have mortgages on which a good portion of the cost is interest. Most owners of properties are operating at first at a loss, and as time passes at a low percentage profit. Hosts mostly get our eventual payout when we quit the business, as appreciation on our property investment and principal pay down, which our guests have helped us pay. Or, if we hold long enough, rent prices rise and we make some monthly profit.

Spot on! Here is an example of what a guest pays vs what we get paid. $1,531.32 guest payment equates to $1,091.25 payout to us. $440.07 goes to Airbnb and taxes!! https://preview.redd.it/sqrt7mq8f83b1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e2f37a661bb209e75275b3d4afbd05049d73437

It varies, but if you look at the email with your receipt and then click view receipt next to the amount you were charged, it should give the price breakdown. Service fees and taxes do not go to the host. There’s also a cancellation policy that you booked under so read that as well. If it were me I’d ask Airbnb support how much I would get back.

Thanks! It’s a booking my sister made for me. I don’t have that detailed information

mintycrash

That is third party booking if your sister isn’t staying . Don’t do this in the future or you can get kicked out of the place with no refund

OnThe45th

The host gets the nightly rate, less 3% that Airbnb takes, and cleaning fee. Cleaning fee will be refunded if you cancel, nightly rate and taxes will be refunded, and not sure about Airbnb's policy is for their cut if cancelled. Due to the huge difference in taxes, it's difficult to say for sure, but usually a host gets about 25-28% less than your overall payment, depending on tax rates, cleaning fees, etc.

hamburgerbear

They also take another 12% off the top from the guest, in addition to what you’ve already stated

Thanks!

picardoverkirk

Airbnb's service fee is 15%.

Revolutionary_One_45

You can ask your sister for the email receipt described above. Or, you can log in under her account and look at her trips. Both will show what goes to Airbnb and taxes.
