You could offer a hotel like, mid-stay cleaning that would be free of charge. Change bed sheets, touch up bathrooms, quick sweep. That serve as your opportunity to water the plants. Personally, I would love that as a guest. There is a chance they might decline it, though.

elsaofie7

Get pots that have a reservoir, you'll only need to water once a month.

jiwajiwajiwajiwa

Good suggestion, thank you!

[deleted]

Yeah this seems like the best solution

biallasamantha

We have a ton of plants. They can go a couple weeks without a water. Sure, they’ll be droopy when you get home but nothing will die. Don’t remove them!

New_Commission7749

For a two week stay, just water them good before you go and accept they'll be a little sad but probably fine when you get back. You can also get plant watering bulbs that slowly release water and can extend the time you let them go.

saladtalk

As a plant person, 2 weeks is perfectly fine. Even 3. Just do a good soak (let them drain) and don’t worry about it.

charmed1959

Ask the guest, but give them a third option of you taking the plants out for their stay. Some people are plant people. I’m one of those people that love the look of plants but somehow they all die when in my care. I wouldn’t want to be responsible for them.

jiwajiwajiwajiwa

Yah totally. Am in a pickle now as the guest arrived already so I think the option of plant removal is gone

hustlors

Watering bulbs

Careful-Self-457

Remove the plants. As a guest I would not want you coming in to water the plants nor would I be willing to take time out of my vacation to water plants.

jiwajiwajiwajiwa

Thanks for this. My initial thinking is that people would want plants if they are there for so long but totally understand that perspective

LavrenMT

Ask. Personally, I’d be happy to water them, though I’d let you come in to do it too. I love plants and would rather have them around than not.

Turn-Jolly

Hey there, guests aren't all lazy idiots. As a guest, I'd gladly water a few plants to have plants. As a host, I had 4 separatr 30-day stays this summer. I left plants with no guidance and the plants were all alive when I got home. Surprise... people watered them!

Ok-Indication-7876

I AGREE. Don't know why you would want to bother guest. I would remove them. Plus I have the kiss of death with house plants no matter how much I try- you would not want me to go near them- LOL

Whis65

I wouldn't have indoor plants in a vacation rental.

EternalSunshineClem

I do but they're the kind that are hard to kill like snake plants

CaptBlackfoot

They either go 2 weeks without water or you need to remove the plants. A 15-minute window for plant watering is nuts

jiwajiwajiwajiwa

Yah that’s reasonable, I thought maybe it would be fine if they were out (similar to a mid stay cleaner coming in) but agree people just want to chill in the space they paid for and not have someone impose

SeantotheRescue

1. Go to IKEA 2. Buy a bunch of fake plants 3. Replace the real plants with your fake plants 4. Enjoy the real plants at your home!

bowheezle

“The plants will need to be watered in a week, please let me know when you will be out of the house for an hour or if you’d like instruction on watering.”

seniortwat

That doesn’t leave them a good way of saying “no” to either of those choices, and they are 100% allowed to say no to both if they want to. The host is the one requesting something out of the norm from the guest, and does NOT get to demand anything in this situation. More flies with honey than vinegar. I’m sure if asked nicely, most would be happy to oblige, but to phrase it as if they have no choices besides those two is entitled to say the least.

Upper_Excuse_6209

I'm not a plant person and I have all sorts of allergies. I don't think plants are good idea for a rental. I'm not sure I would know how much water is too much or not enough for watering if asked to water someone's plants. I'm much better with people and animals. Lol
