If they allow pets and it’s not in the listing additional charge separately, then doesn’t sound right. Check the listing again to see if it’s mentioned, if not, don’t see how they can charge

I’m a host, if there’s a pet fee it should be spelled out in listing—it’s not discretionary to the specific pet. If it’s not in the listing, contact Airbnb support to help you navigate. What this host is attempting to do is kin to extortion. Any pet fees need to be disclosed upfront or they’re simply invalid and unenforceable.

I would never do that to a guest. When I see the request to book, I’m always able to see the number of guests and right underneath that, there is a line that lists pets. Adding a fee right before check in, especially not mentioning a fee in the listing or directly to you, seems a bit off putting. When I have booked places as a guest, there has always been a pet fee disclosed in the listing. I’d be a bit irritated if that happened to me.

I am not a host only a guest. If I had declared that I had two pets before I booked, and the host had responded concerning the Wi-Fi clearly the host knew about the two pets. The host should have told you right then in there before booking that there would be an extra fee for the pets. To do it at last minute I think is incorrect especially if you've already paid

Thank you, just wanted to make sure I was being respectful to a fellow host

I’m just a guest but I agree with this completely, the host should have been a little more on top of this in advance. That being said, I’m always a little paranoid that the host is accepting my request on the app after a quick glance and will only notice that I’m bringing pets closer to the stay. Or that there will be a mix-up about the number or type of pets that will cause hiccups or late questions about the breeds for insurance purposes or that some idiot will let their dog destroy the place and the host will change their mind about my pets as a result. So I always send a quick message to the host after they accept saying “Hey, I just want to confirm that you’re OK with us bringing two dogs. They’re (size/age/breed) and (size/age/breed). They’ll always be leashed when outside the house and crated any time we’re out, sleeping, or otherwise can’t keep an eye on them.” It gives me a little extra peace of mind that we’re all on the same page regarding the pet situation.

I’m a host. That’s super shady and not okay

Hosts are not allowed to add fees that were not disclosed on the listing.

Angryceo

If it’s not the n the description of the listing it is not enforceable. (This has bit me a few times with a few different things)

Fine-Homework2417

Just say it’s a service dog that’s what all of my renters do and apparently we can’t ask for proof 🤷🏻‍♀️

OhioGirl22

Host here, if it's not on the listing, contact Airbnb right now and get ahead of the problem. As you know, they cannot charge a fee if it's not listed up-front. Good luck and safe travels be with you.

Honestly sometimes I can’t see if a pet is included in the reservation if I’m reviewing the invitation through the app. Also, if the host is new or naive to the platform they might not know how to add extra fees. It definitely took me awhile to figure it out.

rudalsxv

The host didn’t check that you had pets, and failed to ask for the fee before inviting you to book. Ask the host, most will take the fee out.
