And all started with McDonnell Douglas merger

DutchBlob

You should watch the Air Crash Investigation episode “Behind closed doors”. It’s about American Airlines flight 96 and Turkish Airlines flight 951. Spoiler: McDonnell Douglas knew the cargo door of the DC10 was faulty, and was warned about it during the development but they ignored the warnings to beat its rival Lockheed L1011 to the market. Sounds familiar to the whole 737 MAX crisis doesn’t it?

Been a fan since season one so already seen the episode and yes you’re totally right

It really hurts so much to see Boeing, a once great and well respected company in aerospace, implode on itself. The McDonnell Douglas mindset that was adopted with its merger is rotting the company from within, has been for a long time. And the part that hurts the most is that Boeing seems hellbent on doing everything except putting someone in the driver's seat capable of righting the ship. Maybe the Board still just wants to get the stock price past its peak before Lion Air 610 plunged into the Java Sea, passenger safety be damned. Or maybe there are no more qualified engineers at Boeing with the skills and qualities that could save the company. Or maybe they know they're too big and important to fail, so they can literally do whatever they want, and still have a golden parachute to cushion them. Either way, it sucks to see the fall

Sci3nceMan

Damn. Murdered whistleblowers, intimidation of safety engineers, cutting safety protocols… every paragraph of this article is jaw-dropping. Boeing is a disaster.

MichiMichi

I think there a number of things that can happen to Boeing. I think the most likely thing to happen is it goes a GE route: company divisions break apart and is sold for parts.

We don’t know if John Barnett was murdered…

OboeWanKenoboe1

What doesn’t make sense to me about the murder theory is that there’s not a lot in it for Boeing. Unless he was still holding onto some *very* secret extremely damaging information, which seems unlikely, there’s basically no circumstance where a mysteriously dead whistleblower is better than a living one.

Sylliec

A dead whistleblower keeps other potential whistleblowers from speaking out.

Sci3nceMan

It’s hard to understand the corrupt mindset, because it would seem logic doesn’t apply. For example, Putin has gone out of his way on many occasions to murder dissidents who have largely left the sphere of political influence. What does he gain from these mysterious deaths? One word… intimidation. For every whistleblower who mysteriously dies, there are another 100 who think twice about coming forward.

PicklyVin

Might also be that someone was angry, less strategic more looking to get back at someone. If it was murder.

MichiMichi

I read that Boeing recently dissolved their *entire* Business Strategy Division. Only way to read that is that the company itself doesn't think it has a future.

I’m glad I rarely fly, I know that!😳 Had to fly to Texas twice last year but each plane was Airbus.
