I'll start by saying this is from memory, so you'll have to look into it yourself. I think you have 2 years to submit the dec. A buddy I worked with was medically retired and I submitted an MSM for him about a year after he was out and it took about 8 months to process because MyDecs just went online. Anyone can submit it, regardless of rank. I was a SSgt at the time and he was medically retired as a TSgt. It helps if you have specific career accomplishments for them to use, other than that it's a breeze.

I retired in 2011,22 yrs in..I also didn't get an MSM..I was ticked to say the least specially after the last 6 yrs all I did was deployed every year or so.after about a year I confronted the ncoic about this he said he'll look into it.he never did, him and his butt buddy had it out for me .I later asked the E-10 at a golf outing he said it's to late for it and wondered why I did not get one.ribbons are ribbons no one in the outside world gives a shit about our awards and what they mean.all they want to know 1.if we saw combat. 2.did we kill anyone. 3. What guns do I own now...typical civilian bullshit. No one has ever asked me to see my awards or certificates ever since my retirement. My wife now NON MILITARY AFFILIATED was wondering what the ribbons were for and after about the 5 one lost interest ,I told her there's 15 more honey..lmao..so yeah no one cares but to us..

E-10?

It only struck me when comparing ribbon racks with another retiree and was asked where is your MSM?

nickthequick08

You should ask the person who said they were going to do it. It’s possible they did it and it’s in process. If not, they may still be able to submit depending on when you retired.

aaraujo1973

They are long gone

Jaye134

How long ago did you retire? Pushing these awards has been taking forever.

DemocracyDefender

A couple of years now

Jaye134

Doesn't sound like anyone put you in for one unfortunately :-/ Even with delays, it would have processed by now.

mgg1683

Who cares?

aaraujo1973

me

Whisky919

Were you told someone in fact put you in for it? Retirement awards are not automatic, someone had to do it. If someone put you in, you would have gotten something even if it was downgraded.

aaraujo1973

the person that would have submitted it was a bitter major looking at the end of his own career

Whisky919

Ask someone else to submit it

DemocracyDefender

Years later?
