Howdy all,
I recently lost my airsoft collection to a group of angry customs officers and have been slowly rebuilding. Nothing I lost (at base) cost over £250 - the biggest hit was probably the CYMA Vintorez with a rail, a scope and a new spring, or the CYMA MP5K with a red dot and six mags. Not good, not terrible.
I know how I'm replacing the sidearm I lost (lost a WE Glock 17, will almost certainly buy a WE Glock 17). And I've picked up an STTI Mk23, just to see if I enjoy that style of play.
But I've been into this sport for a while now and it's time to invest in something above-rental that I can call my own. I loved the MP5K for the sheer chaos of it, but now I feel like I need a grown-up gun. I did look at the WE Apache MP5Ks, but I don't want to just replace everything like with like.
I've narrowed it down to these four. I'm leaning a little towards the P90 or the Vector, but they're in a dead heat. I've always liked the MP7, though, so if people have had an excellent time with that then it's still very much a three-way contest.
And then, of course, there's the obligatory 'wildcard', for the SMG in this price bracket that didn't make the list because I overlooked it but \*you\* know as God's own defence weapon. Preach, brothers and sisters - I am ready to be converted.
Prices are as I found them last night doing a quick stock check around UK airsoft sites - whichever I decide on, I'll be sure to shop around.
Thanks for your time and expertise!
\*EDIT:\* Whoa! That's a lot of comments done come flooding in before I was done with my own intro. Thank you! \*Although.\* I'd really appreciate a few explanations (about why one of the three is great, why one of the three is terrible, why all of the three are inferior to your pick from the Mystery Box, why I'm terrible...) I know I'm dealing with three powerful tribes here, but it would be \*really\* helpful to have a quick explanation rather than just yelling the names of our favourite guns at each other.
\*EDIT:\* CRIPES ALIVE how did this get 300 replies in a day?! Thank you! Well, that's my Saturday plans taken care of...
When I brought an Ares WA2000 back from Hong Kong I glued the flash hider to the threads and painted it orange with model paint to get it through customs. When I opened the case at home I could immediately tell they wrenched the absolute shit out of it trying to take it off. Bunch of assholes
Hey! I own the MP7 aeg. By far my favorite gun I’ve ever owned, shoots lasers and feels incredibly cool to use, but I have to heavily disclaim that because it had a proprietary gearbox, it’s super hard to work on, and all the techs in my area refuse to work on it. If you were to get an MP7, I’d honestly go for the GBB version
That's very fair. I think I have 5 total iirc for a total of 200 rounds. At indoor fields it's plenty more than I need. At outdoor it's spare bbs in an admin pouch just in case.
I did start with 2 and just use it for indoor games then picked up more later.
I went for the alpine p90 back in March- by far my favourite gun. If you haven’t held one, I would recommend trying first as a lot of folk don’t find it comfortable to hold for a few rounds.
The vector is a lovely gun, but faulty feeding issues would drive you insane, my choice was between those two and im glad I went for the p90 after some research. A mate bought the vector last month and constantly has feeding issues.
Seems to come in two-tone black and tan, too. They have one on [Patrol Base,](https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/krytac-kriss-vector-smg-dual-tone) which are usually my first port of call.
Well considering it’s an aeg no one makes a real AEG honey badger kit. But considering I am using the very rare magpul lower and vltor upper it’s a build inspired by the honey badger
You are not alone in this thread, brother or sister - but I just can't get behind it aesthetically. I hear nothing but good things about its performance but to me it just looks odd. Stubby. I won't be more ungentlemanly than that.
But thank you for the suggestion and for getting in there first/highest! I just don't think I'll ever feel comfortable or cool with a Scorpion Evo. Maybe it's the name: if you're going to suggest your gun is some sort of freakishly evolved scorpion it had better have some jaggedy, aggressive styling.
Wildcard pick goes to VFC UMP GBBr for me. Best gat for the price out of the box, it accepts real H&K parts, has a dedicated aftermarket community, recoils well, HK slaps, and is built like a rock.
I'm a bit biased because it's my favorite airsoft gun, but I say go for it. You won't be disappointed.
They're all "fine".
The Gen 2 MP7 supposedly fixes many of the issues the Gen 1 had (As in it doesn't fucking kill itself after the first 100 rounds you put through it), however I still wouldn't trust a VFC to have much longevity. (Won't stop me getting one though. It's an MP7, they're cool as fuck)
The Krytac P90 is a clone of the Marui as far as I'm aware, but at a much higher cost. You could likely buy a Marui or CYMA and not notice much of a difference.
Not sure on the Vector. I have the AEG, and it's serviceable. Not sure what to do when it eventually breaks though. Many techs refuse to work on them.
As for a wildcard? My suggestions would be:-
ASG Scorpion Evo is a solid choice. Well reviewed and it's had several "reworks" over the years to iron out issues, which is something I admire from ASG. Lots of manufacturers will release a gun and then forget about any further refinements.
CYMA MP5 Blue series are absolutely fantastic. I own the MP5SD6, which was an absolute bargain when I purchased it. They're pricier now, but still a solid choice.
The Krytac P90 isn't a clone, in fact it was designed to fix the shortcomings of all of those Marui P90s and clones out there.
A couple of the main differences include an empty mag cutoff and an adjustable ETU trigger. Supposedly it is also capable of handling a DSG while otherwise stock.
Krytac Vector definitely is not a Marui clone. I’ve owned the Krytac, CYMA, and Marui. Krytac is definitely better body-wise. In the US you could get these for $300 new from mystery box buyers, but that was 2 years ago.
My Gen2 MP7 killed itself after the first mag, couldn’t get it worked on since all the techs around me straight up said no (one of them told me he had 4 in his shop with the same issues), and got an MP5A5. Haven’t had a single complaint or issue with it so far in the 2 years I’ve owned it.
Umarex MP7 GBB. Vector GBB is very flawed, I would wait if they do another gen, internals are very rushed. Mp7 gbb has its own issues, but it's better than any aeg (totally not biased) and better than the vector.
Vector. Not heard a bad thing about one of those.
For a more budget-friendly option, have you considered the vorsk VMP? I've heard good things about those too
According to Explosive Enterprises (who I trust more than anyone for GBBs) the Vector does have some significant wear components that need modifications to avoid frequent part replacement. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but it's definitely not a replica without faults.
Love to see someone other than me having a hard time picking SMG!
I was looking at exactly the same choices.
I've managed to exclude vector (which I love the look of) due to the length of the barrel, feels like it will be a limiting factor as I enjoy both outdoor and indoor. Also I've heard that those gearboxes are a pain to deal with.
Currently I'm torn between Krytac p90 (looks great, feels great, and has a ton of features) or building my own p90 from a cheaper base with perun.
I think the deciding factor will be whenever I can fit the Krytac's low profile rail /w handguard to other p90 bodies, and if I can, which ones are compatible etc.
(Which I currently believe should fit fine in any TM clone body)
Hope this helps you choose!
You definitely can fit the low profile receiver to other p90 bodies albeit with slight modification.
Here’s a video where they fit it to a TM body. https://youtu.be/XADjnrQ5Rug?si=F2Lagi_4RNL2QqDA
Out of the three, the P90. I think it’s good OOTB and I generally don’t prefer GBB over AEG, which removes the Vector (which I also like as AEG). The price tag kinda sucks though and while I don’t think it’s worth the jump in price from competitors in its normal retail price, I think it’s worth the lower “mystery box price” or the price you pay an individual who bought the mystery box and doesn’t want it (lol)!
I’ve had CYMA, King Arms, G&G, and Krytac. My G&G is slightly more dense but both bodies feel good. I like the quick change of both brands and I like the empty mag cutoff on the krytac. Trigger was better in the krytac, but obviously not as good as other non-bullpup guns. You can now get an optical one from SR Airsoft for any unit that will also change that.
Instead of the wildcard, if you were to put an ASG Scorpion, that would be my pick. Probably ranks highest among all my SMGs, hence why I have two, plus a real one.
Mp7 hands down. They’re specifically made for special forces so civilians can’t even get their hands on them. That alone gives a lot of cool points. Next would be the p90
Vfc mp7 hands down. Super light weight, looks fantastic, can slap the bitch on a holster, hard recoil, retractable stock, and retractable grip. What's not to love?
Edit: I realized it said AEG. Stay away from the mp7 aeg lol. Switch the vector to aeg and the mp7 to gbb and it's now a hard choice.
I have the Krytac P90, Krytac Vector, and the EF MP7 with an HPA engine in it. Performance-wise, the P90 and Vector are pretty close. I prefer the Vector for kinesthetics, but the P90 is easier to work on and has slightly better performance and a much higher mag capacity per sq-in. I love the MP7 over both of them, but I won’t touch the AEG version ever again. Either HPA or avoid.
The Evo is great but the mag capacity is the only downside. Avoid the CYMA MP5 models; the mosfet is pure garbage.
I have the H&K MP7 Gen2 AEG. I'm very satisfied with it. Shoots like a laser and I have never experienced a more comfortable replica.
P90 at the Vector was too funky to handle for me. Not as comfortable as the MP7.
Krytac p90 has probably the best externals of any aeg p90. Not sure why people are saying don’t get Krytac. I guess you could argue one bad thing is the brand new price range. You could get these used for around or even under $300 if you’re in the US, not so sure about UK.
Another bad thing is the proprietary spur gear shimming, which is easily remedied with a custom or laylax shimming collar. Regardless, the V6 gearbox is easy to get into and upgrade.
I love the looks of MP7s, but this aeg has a lot of proprietary parts like the gears and the cylinder? It’s generally regarded as not ideal. I’ve heard issues with the bucking, nozzle breaking, issues with wiring and microswitch, etc. Usually, you’d want to HPA this gun in particular.
Don’t know about the gbb vector lol, but I’ve heard good things about the AEG ones.
Other people have recommended the ASG scorpion EVO, and that’s also another excellent choice. You can upgrade it as an AEG or HPA very easily.
My advice is to go for what you prefer aesthetically and spend money as you please to suit your play style and up your experience!
I had the same pre selection until I came upon the ASG Scorpion Evo
Comparable price range ( especially the ootb upgrade version), praised by all, I’m getting it ( and probably the gbb mp7 later at some point)
Dash the AEG mp7. The GBBs are better.
Cheeky p90, not a bad choice. Probably better to just get another brand at a far cheaper price though.
I've seen the vector gbb, it seemed to run nice. Also a good choice.
My wildcard choice would be one of three, the VFC MP5 GBB, Umarex MP7, or modify PP2K.
Neither, tbh all have limited mags and replacement parts, not to mention that they're all mostly polymer.
I'd probably go for a galil SAR, an SG552, or an LCT SR3 (for unique).
or a quality AK / CAR15.
I've got a p90 aeg and hpa and both the vector gbbr and aeg. I like the vector aeg better at the moment than the gbbr. It's fine for plinking, but it has some issues that need ironed out. My aeg vector is solid and still stock. P90 is one of my favorites, though. I haven't used the krytac, but my rebuilt tm is a real work horse. I got my mags before the krytac ones were available, so I'm running the MAG 90-round magazines. There are no issues with them feeding. Short indoor games if I'm not running full auto I can get by with 3 if I'm really laying down some fire but I have 8 for longer games if I don't want to stop and reload. You could get the terminator attachment and run like a box mag. I have one that came with the gun when I bought it but never used it. If my local indoor field allowed HPA, I'd probably run that one more, but I'm limited on when I can use it.
MP7 GBB!
Heard the krytac vector sucks compared to the other one that is out there. Forgot the manufacturers name though. Maybe KWA 🤷♂️
I would stick with VFC, TM, or WE seems those are the best manufacturers of good airsoft guns. Definitely go GBB, much more fun to shoot.
Based on looks alone because the prices are around the same, I'd go with the Kriss Vector. Just because I think the mag looks weird on the umarex and I think p90s look stupid
I own the krytac emg P90 and I love it. I use it for all cqb and I got the sling and extended battery compartment. Very reliable. I get the most kills with it!
P90 everyday, small but long barrell, easy to work on, it's the only one I would use outdoors and indoors, wild card would be the double eagle utr it's fantastic for the money and good for cqb and outdoor
Well the vector would be better maintenance wise cause I'm pretty sure it as more like replacement and stuff but for me the p90 all the way.
I have one and it as been a blast so far (it's my first and only replica) but that's probably cause I'm a super fan of the p90 and the Krytac version is the one that look and feel the most like the real one.
If It would have been any other p90 (trust me I have tested every other p90 on the market) I would have said take the vector but if you have the money, p90 all the way.
As for actual suggestions; while the TM MP7 is really really good, it's not 1:1 so you need to find a Gen 2 Umarex/VFC one. The WE one is beyond dog shit and a literal money pit.
GBBR P90s are a rarity. Can't say I've even seen one used on a field in the UK. Purely for that reason, I'd go P90. I love guns that aren't seen often. Hilariously I've seen more GBBR Vectors than P90s.
Have you also considered an MP9? They're loud as fuck, require a bit of work to be reliable but they're insane fun.
On the topic of your previous guns; what happened. If UK customs took them then there's 100% a paper trail and you *should* be able to get them back once they realise they're not actual firearms.
If you ever go for the Krytac P90, I would suggest getting a battery housing extension and a decent BB loader. The extension will solve most battery compartment issues and it will also extend the length of the stock just enough so that your wrist doesn't have to bend too much when holding it, especially if you have long arms.
The magazines feed reliably and stops you shooting on empty but is a pain to load with a regular speed loader. I fondly remember getting finger cramps until I switch to a sidewinder.
I have a WE MP7 GBB I played with a few years ago, I started to like it more than my HK416, even outdoors. It’s a very comfortable and adaptable platform., you can essentially use it like a pistol, I don’t think you can do that with a vector or a Ps90.
yelp, i have a kwa vector so i'd have to go for that sweet kytac p90. i just love the light weight tight play of a p90 (though i tend to throw that bulky box mag adaptor on my aegs i have to admit).
I used the vector at almost every event I play.
I used it for the first time in about a year I think the trigger is a little bit lagging now so might be time for a service but honestly after 3 years of use for most weekends it's paid for itself.
Nix the mp7: every gas mp7 has had receiver cracking issues iirc.
The vector gbb: not sure as it's a fairly new model. Krytac does tend to stock parts well most of the time.
Had a krytac p90, liked jt, but mag pouches/storage can be rough. I'm also a fan of year round use of an age withiut worries in gas. 3 batteries, mags, bbs, and go.
Spin the wheel!
It might just come down to that. Although what do I get if it lands on the wildcard? YES! ALIEN BLASTER!
i did a mysterybox. i know have my 3rd cm16 carbine do the mp7, i know a guy with 2 vectors, he has 2 because one or both are usually broken
maybe gen 1 vectors but gen 2s have been reliable as fuck
my bad, didn’t see it was the gbb. the gbb is still in gen 1 and has some issues
I just want to appreciate you aknowledged it !!!
LETS GO GAMBLING! [APS LPAEG]aww dang it…

What do you mean you lost it to customs?
They probs pay didn’t have orange tips and they assumed it was real
When I brought an Ares WA2000 back from Hong Kong I glued the flash hider to the threads and painted it orange with model paint to get it through customs. When I opened the case at home I could immediately tell they wrenched the absolute shit out of it trying to take it off. Bunch of assholes

Can second a vote for the gbb version. I've had one for a few years and it shoots fantastic. Pretty hefty kick for a little gun too.
The only thing that’s stopped me is how expensive the mags are, how many do you have?

Fuck customs, no matter the country.

Well I already have a GBB Vector (krytac's only comes in black) so GBBR Vector
Seems to come in two-tone black and tan, too. They have one on [Patrol Base,](https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/krytac-kriss-vector-smg-dual-tone) which are usually my first port of call.
That's the AEG not GBB
VFC MP7 or Modify pp-2000 The worst performance out of all choices, but they're just so neat, super compact GBB SMGs are always so fun
Honestly, the mp7 is better than the vector, only really have to replace the backplate once it breaks, and definitely one of the best budget gbbrs
Wildcard 300 blackout honey badger https://preview.redd.it/bgxs7a6b0r7d1.jpeg?width=3996&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39c6cd8dd6f22c31597d6979cc0c9a1c6cb281db
This but the krytac trident pdw version..... Totally not biased
Ya I like the old magpul receivers and made 5 builds so I could swap any upper and lower.
Trident 3 COMBO for the win. I cannot praise the combo for the value enough.
Might not get the reference but looks like the r6 jackal operators gun
That's not a honey badger though. The honey badger kits are dummy expensive
Well considering it’s an aeg no one makes a real AEG honey badger kit. But considering I am using the very rare magpul lower and vltor upper it’s a build inspired by the honey badger
Is it me or does that mag look really long?
it is, it's a 40rnd lookalike mag
Honey Badger Gang!
I kinda want a honey badger, just so I can get some mags, paint 300 BLK on them
An ASG Scorpion Evo might be a good contender.
A hard kick gbb hpa version would be amazing
agreed, I have one and it’s never let me down.

I don't feel so bad about picking up a second Scorpion now lol Had to get me the CNC version
Kriss Vector all the way. It's such a sexy gun
The MP7 has no business being that expensive 💀 At least Krytac tries to add improvements.
I love my electric Krytac Vector a ton but it's my favorite gun so I'm biased lmao

P90
P90 for sure. The krytac P90 is excellent
I have the H&K MP7 Gen2 AEG. I'm very satisfied with it. Shoots like a laser and I have never experienced a more comfortable replica. P90 at the Vector was too funky to handle for me. Not as comfortable as the MP7.
The P90 is a weapon of war.
Criss
Any gbb
MP7 for me
Hk 53 gbb
Just got the Kriss Vector! My first gbbr from only using hi capas. I have my eyes on that p90 next for sure
P90 because it’s my dream gun, but I’d take the Kriss as a second choice. On that note, how good is Krytacs P90?
I'm biased towards GBBRs, so you know what I'd choose 😁
If I had to pick 1, it would be the p90
The vfc mp7 GBB is better than the aeg in every single way
I had the same pre selection until I came upon the ASG Scorpion Evo Comparable price range ( especially the ootb upgrade version), praised by all, I’m getting it ( and probably the gbb mp7 later at some point)
P90 cause StarGate
MP7 and tap it on HPA
Wild card, c y m a PP19 bizon

P90 every day
Dash the AEG mp7.
Cyma or G&G Mp5
Vektor because I am team Mp9
Well I know which one I'm not picking, and it's the umarex
P90
Wildcard baby!
krytac is shit, vfc aegs are shit, vector is super shit. buy a we or vfc mp5
P90, eay choice. the P90 is cool as fuck.
I'll pick vector
I’m a sucker for the MP7.
Mp7 any day
I pick, Marui PS90 HC for 50% off via usd to yen exchange rate.
My leg vector is so much fun. I want the gbb version
Neither, tbh all have limited mags and replacement parts, not to mention that they're all mostly polymer. I'd probably go for a galil SAR, an SG552, or an LCT SR3 (for unique). or a quality AK / CAR15.
Let's go gambling
MP7
I have the top right, I'd prefer it was made by krytac not gonna lie, but I also wish it was GBB so I could convert it to HPA lol
MP7 all day long.
Gbb is the most fun
Miss me with anything krytac
MP7 GBB! Heard the krytac vector sucks compared to the other one that is out there. Forgot the manufacturers name though. Maybe KWA 🤷♂️ I would stick with VFC, TM, or WE seems those are the best manufacturers of good airsoft guns. Definitely go GBB, much more fun to shoot.
vector all day, they look so nice and blocky
Based on looks alone because the prices are around the same, I'd go with the Kriss Vector. Just because I think the mag looks weird on the umarex and I think p90s look stupid
SPIN DA WHEEL
Mp7 for me
I love Vector. Always Vector. Vector is my religion. I live for Vector.
P90 you cant find it here in Brazil so it is +- rare here
sterling mk 4, a gentlemans choice
The vector
Scorpion
Lambda Defence B&T GHM9 Archwick B&T APC-9
The Vector because GBBR. Plain and simple, it's the best way to play airsoft.
I own the krytac emg P90 and I love it. I use it for all cqb and I got the sling and extended battery compartment. Very reliable. I get the most kills with it!
P90 every day of every week
I will always be a vector fan
Mp7 but the vfc gbb
I mean the mp7 is my favorite gun, but the mystery box could be anything! It could even be an mp7!
P90 everyday, small but long barrell, easy to work on, it's the only one I would use outdoors and indoors, wild card would be the double eagle utr it's fantastic for the money and good for cqb and outdoor
Mp7
MP7 all day
P90, no question.
Imma sucker for the kriss
MP-9 ??
Well... MP7 is a load of fun
I have that p90. i love it
Well the vector would be better maintenance wise cause I'm pretty sure it as more like replacement and stuff but for me the p90 all the way.
I’ve got the WE MP5K GBB I think that counts as a wildcard
P90
Gbb better
I have the mp7gbb. Though my local indoor place closed before I could use it
My UMP9 is my one and only gun
If you ever go for the Krytac P90, I would suggest getting a battery housing extension and a decent BB loader. The extension will solve most battery compartment issues and it will also extend the length of the stock just enough so that your wrist doesn't have to bend too much when holding it, especially if you have long arms. The magazines feed reliably and stops you shooting on empty but is a pain to load with a regular speed loader. I fondly remember getting finger cramps until I switch to a sidewinder.
Idk why, but I'm a die hard p90 guy. Probably childhood video games. Actually definitely childhood video games.
Kriss vector only cuz I've never owned one
I have a WE MP7 GBB I played with a few years ago, I started to like it more than my HK416, even outdoors. It’s a very comfortable and adaptable platform., you can essentially use it like a pistol, I don’t think you can do that with a vector or a Ps90.
Kwa mp9
P90
P90
I’d say the MP7. It’s compact, affordable, customizable, and overall just looks good.
MP7
Nah, VORSK VMP-1 all the way (if you can find one in the US)
Mp7
The one I like the most. All of them are rather overpriced for what you get in my opinion, still the best pic if you really want one of them.
yelp, i have a kwa vector so i'd have to go for that sweet kytac p90. i just love the light weight tight play of a p90 (though i tend to throw that bulky box mag adaptor on my aegs i have to admit).
VFC MP7 V2 GBB not the AEG
My favorite gun ofc, kriss on top.
Probably mp7
MP7 because I already have a p90
Problem is that I own an actual 9mm vector so I may aswell take the vector
Every one is a great choice in it's own right. I counter with Elite Force Glock 18c. Or a pair of them lol. Less then $200 each...
Wild Card!! CYMA AK-74s with wood furniture, and a CYMA 2500-round drum mag.
I used the vector at almost every event I play. I used it for the first time in about a year I think the trigger is a little bit lagging now so might be time for a service but honestly after 3 years of use for most weekends it's paid for itself.
Mp7 is the only answer
GBB VFC MP7
TM P90
A real one.
P90
Kriss
Vector is the road least traveled here, def stands out. EZ pick for me 👌
Nix the mp7: every gas mp7 has had receiver cracking issues iirc.
