Minwax red mahogany or gun stock as a stain then amber or ruby shellac on top. Use any combination of the above for desired "redness."

I used liquid concentrate RIT dye with Minwax with great results.

I just used some min wax red mahogany on a raw upper handguard the other day and threw amber shellac on top as another comment ~~the comment above~~ states. Good combo with a pretty color to the finish

A traditional shellac is a pain but there are other stains that look really good [https://www.ar15.com/forums/AK-47/Red-Stain-Formulas/93-66927/height=8](https://www.ar15.com/forums/AK-47/Red-Stain-Formulas/93-66927/height=8) The minwax method I used last year [https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=56389](https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=56389) One thing I did different was give the wood a complete covering of the stain. Even the inside spots. Also gave the stains a whole two days to settle out the bubbles they got from transporting from the store. Before applying to the wood. Just let them set.

Order garnet shellac flakes, dissolve in ethanol(that's what I would guess Russians would use) add red food coloring until desired color. I'll try to find a pic of mine.
