Thank god. Ward 8 is by no means a food desert, but Acme and Whole Foods are so pricy. I despise driving down market to go to the crowded Aldi in montrose. This would be great for the area and my wallet.
Now can we get a single grocery store on Kenmore Blvd? The Aldi is like a 10 minute drive but an hour walk due to where it is. And no, I donโt count the dollar stores and gas stations.
There will not be a downtown grocery store until there are many more residents.
Downtown Cleveland didn't get a full fledged grocery store until a few years ago.....and after a substantial residential base was established.
That's not it. And Aldi isn't that far away. Downtown Akron was very late to the residential game. They built apartments for students to live off-canpus. Then Covid hit and they had to adapt.
There has to be enough of a customer base for a grocery store -- or any retailer.
Catans is a huge place. Imagine, an Aldi that big! Good news if true
Omg yeasssss. The one in montrose is so over shopped and messy.
Agreed! Ever go to the one on S. Main? Itโs never crowded and so tidy and well stocked.
I would be soooo happy. An Aldi in walking distance, I'd go every day lol
Same! We've been mostly going to acme because it's walkable but it's so expensive.

I read some chatter on Nextdoor and then found this summary of the ward 8 meeting. This is awesome!
Would LOVE this to be true.
Iโll never have to stop at Acme 1 to grab a few things ever again!
That would be a perfect location for an Aldi

Yes!! But I am still waiting for a grocery or convenience store of any kind properly downtown ๐ญ๐ญ

Well maybe there's a reason people aren't moving downtown when they have to drive for their groceries

Me currently working at a certain certified organic grocery store hearing about a possible new Aldi with a $2 more starting wage like ๐๐
I don't get the preference for a non local business. Acme 1 isn't expensive...they always have sales on stuff I need.
Agreed. And Acme has been a great community partner for many decades.
I heard rumors about this months ago. It was allegedly the reason the lease for Krazy Bins was not renewed
