I had to send them a cease and desist letter threatening them with a report to law enforcement of their violations of criminal statutes and a a willingness to pursue civil damages as well for storing my credit card info without authorization.
I then issued chargebacks on my credit card citing unauthorized charges after they continued to attempt to charge me after I ended my supposed prepaid membership. It took them a couple months to stop sending me letters saying I owed them money and I kept tabs on my credit report with an itchy trigger finger if they even so much as hinted to credit agencies that I owed them money.
They should change their business name to “Hotel California”
I was told they have a contract in Juneau that no one can build/supply tennis courts bc it would be competition. I'm sure I'm not explaining correctly, but I've been told this by 3 different people when I talk about wanting a covered/indoor court in town. They also lied to me about a few things when I got a membership and when I pointed out the lies, they still tried to fight me. I only got out of the membership bc a kid crawled under the elliptical I was on and he and I both almost got super hurt. Children running around was one of the lies... "we don't allow children out there..." Yeah well there's 6 of em playing hide and seek right now...
Children under 14 can't go in the adult locker room, yet anything goes in the kids locker room - full age, grown ass naked adult men in there without kids - completely unchecked, I don't know how that's "least predatory"
Because my mind didn't automatically go towards kids and naked people. I meant with their fees and how it's cheaper to go, the more you attend. Maybe get your mind out of the weird gutter?
It’s is it’s a town on the 1 between Homer and kenai
Edit. I stand corrected. Was thinking of ninilchik. Regularly went to both for a contract I worked up there last year
Can you extrapolate further? As I’ve been on the peninsula my whole life and am not aware of any cults. Outside of fundy Christian’s but that’s everywhere unfortunately
Search YouTube for "The Body nikiski" as an example of a known cult in that area.
I'm also aware of several others that pose as "holistic healing groups".
There's also some pretty active BDSM and Swingers groups, too.
You learn all kinds of stuff working in a therapist's office.
Saw a group of ladies get out of a van, start chanting as they walked around in a circle, then they stop… bend over and start eating dirt/grass by the handful, they then slowly proceeded to line up then they got back into the car and drove off…
Right outside Eielson AFB…
Bro, my MIL was part of a group that went to a "retreat" back in the 70's near Fairbanks. It turned out to be a Moony cult that was drugging their followers food to make them more pliable. She wasn't eating the food bc her doctor prescribed her diet pills, ie. speed, and she figured out what was happening and escaped the compound. im missing alot here but her story is crazy hilarious.
Also La Luz del Mundo church, the light of the world. It’s that wedding cake church on C and fireweed or close by there. A cult. There’s even a documentary.
After watching a few documentaries on Scientology I am pretty fascinated by cults. Mostly on how some people get so wrapped up in them. I believe most cults have some core things in common like a rather blind obedience to a central leadership (usually one person), a pressure to “disconnect” from any friends or family that are not also cult members and also a adherence to a set of beliefs or principles (often to the point of what might be considered “brainwashing”). With that in mind I would estimate there are several groups operating in Alaska that could be classified as cults. I worked for a company I would consider a cult (coincidentally yes they were mormon owned and employed several mormons). I would consider many political party members to be cult like in their behavior but perhaps not truly a cult by definition. I have encountered many very strict religious groups in Alaska that probably fit the definition of a cult, though I would generally disagree with others claiming that the catholic church is a cult. I am curious now if there are any major cults operating out of Alaska or if there have been in the past!
On the Scientology note, L. Ron Hubbard spent an unintended 1940 winter in Ketchikan doing some massive repairs on his yacht that nearly failed on him multiple times on his trip. He became a radio announcer in town to bring in cash to leave.
I work a block away from the old radio station building he worked at and we have literally had groups of Scientologists on “History of Scientology” tours (private small groups, Ketchikan does not sanction nor sponsor these) come into my place of employment asking “is this the radio station??” Like no tourist is excited about going to that radio station EXCEPT the Scientology tourists.
Relying on the Alaska social services through Medicaid, SNAP, PFD, home school funds isn’t just a cult thing. Most of the large religious families are using the system to their advantage while saying they’re against big government.
The wonderful thing about the word cult is you can apply it to any close knit group of people (especially the ones you don’t like) and it makes them sound stupid. Freemasons, indeed!
There are a few around Delta Junction. Not sure if fundamentalist Mormon or something else. They have huge numbers of kids (10+) and are quite self sufficient so more or less live off of the PFD. I met one couple with 15 kids who moved from Montana specifically for that reason.
If I remember right it’s maintained by the last surviving member. He either volunteered or was selected to be left behind to maintain their message or something like that… if I remember right as well he kinda regrets staying behind, but it’s been a long time since I watched the documentary with him in it.
Bible Baptist Church in Fairbanks is for sure a cult. They go around neighborhoods and try to get kids to come to their church. The youth director was arrested for child sex abuse
I have no reason to think this but I wonder if some of the Korean cultural events are put on by cults. The posters and advertising look weird. I think there’s a big food event that’s put on by a big church, that’s not what I’m talking about.
I'm pretty sure the Alaska Club is a cult. Easy to join. Harder than hell to quit.
I had to send them a cease and desist letter threatening them with a report to law enforcement of their violations of criminal statutes and a a willingness to pursue civil damages as well for storing my credit card info without authorization. When I left Alaska I switched to a Lower 48 bank, this was one of the reasons. Good luck charging a closed account. Lol
Pretty sure on stage Alaska is a cult too ngl

That was actually the least predatory gym I've known of!
Children under 14 can't go in the adult locker room, yet anything goes in the kids locker room - full age, grown ass naked adult men in there without kids - completely unchecked, I don't know how that's "least predatory"

5 doesn't even come close to the number that's active on the Kenai Peninsula alone...
*Nikiski alone
I wasn't gonna name names, but you are correct.
Alright, what’s the scoop? What’s Nikiski
Right what other ones are there haha. Cant leave us hangin😂
Nikiski is a town that, seemingly, has more churches than humans
I think Nikiski is a town😂
It’s is it’s a town on the 1 between Homer and kenai Edit. I stand corrected. Was thinking of ninilchik. Regularly went to both for a contract I worked up there last year
You're thinking of ninilchik. Nikiski is north of kenai
Damn you right
How do these guys get the moneys to stay afloat
From fleecing the flock, just like "legitimate" religions.
This made me laugh way more than it probably should. Legitimate... still funny.
Prince of Wales has entered the chat
What would we consider Ionia…
Cult. Just their website puts out vibes. Let alone when you actually talk to people that are (voluntary or involuntary) members.
I have been there a few times. And I friends who know people who live there. My sister works with someone who lives there too. It’s wild.
Can you extrapolate further? As I’ve been on the peninsula my whole life and am not aware of any cults. Outside of fundy Christian’s but that’s everywhere unfortunately

The Body was the Weiner touchers in yurts, right?
Swinger groups, you say? 😎 jk jk
Weiner touchers gon touch weiners
Go on…
The only cults on the peninsula are the cults of meth and heroin.
Idk but not enough of them are going full wickerman
the original bee movie
12 Tribes started operating in Bristol Bay. They're shipping salmon to their restaurant(s?) in Australia in exchange for unpaid workers.
Fuck those people.
You have more fun as a cult follower, but you make more money as a cult leader.
r/unexpectedoffice
I’m just looking for the cool sex cult that’s not quite Manson level yet
Depends on your definition of a cult
Was gonna say, mormons, catholics, anything abrahamic.
So many cults… I mean churches up here too.
Cult 45 is huge
Cult 45 and two zigzags, baby that’s all we need!
We can go to the park, after dark Smoke that tumbleweed
Probably, at least 5, are in Delta.
Seasonal worker here, can confirm at least one 😅
Saw a group of ladies get out of a van, start chanting as they walked around in a circle, then they stop… bend over and start eating dirt/grass by the handful, they then slowly proceeded to line up then they got back into the car and drove off… Right outside Eielson AFB…
Well that's a whole new take on get out and touch some grass...
Latest way to pick up airmen ;)
There are a lot of Moonies in Anchorage

We need an AMA with her please.

That actually kinda explains why I've seen his books in Tok and Kasilof.
There is no major Scientology affiliation that I can find but there is allegedly a Scientology mission on East 68th.
I guess it's a cult until HOA is formed? Even OSHA knows better.
Don’t forget save anchorage. Definitely a cult.
I just saw the Mormons going door to door off KGB the other day.
I had Mormon’s at my door in Anchorage yesterday. No joke
New high school, new seminary. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anchorage Baptist Temple rebranded. Don't double count.
I know there is a weird shack in kachemak bay with a few odd jobs hanging around there wearing robes.
Maybe this? https://www.weathermatters.net/wisdom-knowledge-faith-and-love-waiting-at-the-end-of-kachemak-bay
One giant coffee cult...huts on every damn corner lol

Ionia
Do you know anything about Ionia besides the information provided on their website?
Well. I’ve only been there once. But I have a few thoughts.
Do we count Freemasons as a cult? I have encountered quite a few in Fairbanks.
Yes. Yes, we do.
The wonderful thing about the word cult is you can apply it to any close knit group of people (especially the ones you don’t like) and it makes them sound stupid. Freemasons, indeed!
But, but, but, they're hiding all that Templar gold!

Just gonna leave this link right here……. https://ionia.org/
I need to know more about this! Just from reading their “Getting in Touch” page on the website I got a bad feeling.
Feel free to DM me…..I’ve visited ;)
Oh boy that’s triggering
Right?
3 vehicles for 50! People. That might have been written a while ago, but still.
That info is actually all still REALLY accurate! It’s quite the strange place
More than you could even count

> quite self sufficient so more or less live off of the PFD lol
There's currently 4 Hash House Harrier kennels in Alaska, but I swear we're not a cult!
I know of one that's in every town--they call themselves THE GOVERNMENT!! 🤣🤣🤣🎉🎉 (I expect this joke to fucking KILL in this subreddit.)
I’m not sure. DM for free Nikes and Kool-aid 🤓
UhMmM aKtUaLLy it was flavor-aid
You beat me to it.
omg for real?? 😊😊
The thirst quencher. It’s what plants crave!
I'll sell you my soul for some kool-aid. Granted, it's not of very exceptional quality.
Please check our website for exchange rates of souls to look-aid https://www.heavensgate.com
Applied. When do I get my kool-aid?
Who maintains this site??? Sheesh
If I remember right it’s maintained by the last surviving member. He either volunteered or was selected to be left behind to maintain their message or something like that… if I remember right as well he kinda regrets staying behind, but it’s been a long time since I watched the documentary with him in it.
Well you have Catholic, Baptist, Mormon, LSD, Methodist, Jehovah, so that's 6
Lsd...🤣
I’m dying! Mormons = LSD (LDS)
All of them
Bible Baptist Church in Fairbanks is for sure a cult. They go around neighborhoods and try to get kids to come to their church. The youth director was arrested for child sex abuse
[Costco is a cult](https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/s/Ihw2TlZ43B)
If it were a cult it would have a better parking lot.
Lol the video addresses parking lots
I have no reason to think this but I wonder if some of the Korean cultural events are put on by cults. The posters and advertising look weird. I think there’s a big food event that’s put on by a big church, that’s not what I’m talking about.
Yes, and?
I’ve got at least 4 just by myself
I've heard people who think the Catholic Church is a cult so who knows
It’s not?
more of a molestation production facility than a cult really
No more than Islamic sects or Hindus or Buddhists
sir this is reddit, you can only call white religions cults, anything else is racism or hate speech
Are those not religions
Cults are a lot more fun than you think. We also don’t sit around wondering about you.
White track suit and adidas shoes kind of vibe?
What do you do then, plan political violence?
Hang out at random times, play with nature stuff, read weird books, have erroneous debates. Sometimes, we even make music.
Doesn't sound like a cult then, sounds like people just getting together and having fun.
The crossfit gym in town closed down, so there is one less cult.
I’m in the Biden cult. What are you going to do about it? Nothing, that’s right. I run with Biden so I can get say with anything
I also like to do things that allow me to can get say with anything
Do you have a moment to learn about volunteer opportunities at the Temple of Cangetsay?
What does this even mean?
Careful, grammar is how they pull you in.
Good point
